Yeah wasn't it weird? Not too hot at all! We were there the 19th-25th and I don't think we even realized how "not hot" it was until we spent one last day in Epcot a week later when we got back from our cruise on August 1! It was unbelievable how much hotter it was! Our strategy for World Showcase was to make it to the next shade! And there are some parts of WS with a loooong stretch of sun with no shade!! It made us realize how lucky we were that our whole trip wasn't like that.....but maybe this year it will be!

Last summer was just not hot anywhere. I think Pittsburgh only had 1-2 days where it hit 90 degrees - I like a little more warmth in my summers.

What were your dates last July? We were there too! We were there July 15-22 at CBR then 7/22-29 at the Poly Club. I do remember it being not quite as hot, and we had a few huge rainstorms. I don't remember needing a jacket though - and we did a few late night EMHs at MK. Of course, anymore I am my own personal heater at times.

We were there July 9-16. A couple of waterpark days I found to be downright chilly! Of course, it was kind of drizzling and cloudy and we were wet. But it was only in the lower 80s--very weird. By the end of the trip the heat was back up to 90, but we didn't have any killer heat like we expected. I wasn't complaining!

Sooooooo, things may be changing for our trip. We may be shifting to July 3-11, but nothing's positive. My DD16 got a camp opportunity that isn't over until July 2nd. Of course!:headache: I'll let you know--just thinking of adding some dining now--just in case.

Ok, we were there after you left, that is why I didn't remember it being cooler, the hot weather was back when we were there - although, it was not as bad as some summers have been.

Keep us posted on your plans! My DD16 is going to Hershey with her GS troop and they get back June 29th, we leave on June 30th to start driving - she is going to be wiped out and tired of being in a car.

:sad1:

Got scared for a bit...afraid we may have had to cancel our trip..said alot of prayers and all worked out...couldn't go to the world without the WHOLE FAM!!!!:grouphug::banana::banana::cool1::cool1:

Oh, I'm so glad it all worked out! That would have been terribly disappointing.

Back to the "should we bring a jacket" question - if your kids can wear a zip-up hoodie on the plane, that would be the ideal situation. The only time we ever use jackets in Florida in July is when the air conditioning gets too cool. But that does happen! Especially in the evening, maybe you're a little wet (from sweat or an attraction) and sit down for a meal and suddenly -you're freezing!!!
We have relatives in Orlando and every time we visit I always take a jacket for that purpose.
That being said, if it were between checking a bag or getting a Disney hoodie when you get there - wait and shop! :woohoo:

Our ADR for Whispering Canyon Cafe on July 14, 2010 is actually at 6:10 PM, not 5PM. Sorry if I typed it in wrong when I first told you!

I was just on the Tour Guide Mike website looking at some articles and we check in to WDW in 115 days!!! So in just over 2 weeks from now we will be in the double digits already!!!!!!!!

I'm so excited because I've been waiting a while for this trip. We were last to WDW in July 2008, our first family vacation there. We stayed at Pop Century which was a very nice resort, but DH and I don't really like double beds, we prefer queen or king on vacation. We're not big people either...we're just used to a queen bed at home. We were there for 5 nights. We went to parks for 5 days too! DH said to me on the last day that he needs a bigger bed next time we go, but he wants to stay on property because that is the best (I agreed of course!). He asked me how we could do that and when I told him we would have to stay at a deluxe resort for around $400 a night, he started asking me about the Disney Vacation Club because he knew that with all of my obsessive Disney research I had learned some things about the DVC. ;)

So when we got home, I started researching DVC on the DIS. We originally were looking into Beach Club Villas because of the close proximity to Epcot, but then we discovered that BWV is walking distance to both Epcot and DHS, it has a lot of activities, it is a place we could enjoy when our kids are older as well because of all the entertainment for adults, it was fewer DVC points to stay there in a standard view villa than it was for anything at BCV, and it cost less per point for a re-sale than BCV did. Do we decided BWV was more for us. And the rest is history...

Do, we bought the DVC membership in September 2008 but our first trip "home" is this July!!! We bought it early so we could bank enough points for a 1-bedroom. We are going to WDW every other year for 10 nights and staying in a 1-bedroom so we have plenty of room...and DH and I get a king bed to sleep in which is wonderful!! We're also balancing our trip with a couple of days when we don't go to a theme park, to make the vacation more relaxing and to enjoy the resort!

OK, so now that I have babbled on and on...how about everyone else's stories? How did this upcoming trip come to be for all of you? Is it just something you do year after year, is it something that you decided to do just recently, or have months or even years of planning gone into your trip? Is this a trip of a lifetime or one of many? I'm always interested to hear other people's stories and strategies.

How did this upcoming trip come to be for all of you?

Hey, we'll be at BWV, too! This is my first time staying here. Previously stayed at BCV, AKV and BLT. I simply love BCV and admit I'm sad we're not going back there. But my parents stayed at BWV in May and loved it, esp with the standard view and cheaper points.

Anyway, my parents and I own (separately) DVC points. My parents are treating my sister's family to a BWV studio for 5 days and then 4 days, skipping the weekends to save points.

We are going 10 days straight at BWV in a 1BR. We requested 1st floor near the pool but who knows what we'll get. Hopefully we're 'somewhat' close to each other.

Anyway, this is a family reunion vacation -- grandparents, 4 adults, 4 kids ages 1 to 13. My sister's family can only go in the summer, since they are teachers, and I said, well if you go over our birthdays, we'll join you (we prefer going in May or September with less crowds and heat...)

Sooo, my daughter will turn 5 yo and I turn 40 yo -- both on July 13th! I figure there really isn't any other place I'd rather celebrate turning the big 4-0 than WDW!

Our "home" is BCV, and July will be our first DVC trip too. We are waitlisted to stay at BCV for the last two of our 10 day trip (beginning at AKV), and I have reservations at BWV for those nights. I asked my husband if I should cancel the waitlist bc I am excited to try BWV! I decided to leave it in and play the roulette. I control so many other aspects (okay, all other aspects...) that I thought it would be great to leave it to chance.

We just finished all our reservations and will be at French Quarter july 24-30th

lets all hope it's not too hot or too crowded - ya right lol

Okay guys, looking for honest answers...This question coming from someone who deals with a lot of HUMIDITY in July here in MISSOURI...just how HOT will it be @ the WORLD in July?:cool2::scared: My only other trip was in March of 08 and it was wonderful...I hear so many horror stories about Florida in July but somehow just the thought about being @ the WORLD eases my fears...Any tips from those of you who have been before during July would be appreciated:lovestruc...Also what about rain during this month...would you suggest ponchos?:o

Our story is pretty short - we used to travel a lot before we had DD - Boston, NYC, etc - We went to WDW a couple of times together and we love it! Anyway, this past November we were talking about how we really needed a vacation. Not to go visit family in another town or anything like that, a getaway that is just the three of us and just for fun!
So, we started trying to think of an appropriate place to take a 2 1/2 yr old that would be fun for everyone... Disney was the obvious choice! I started researching resorts (we usually stay off-site with fam) and the rest is history!
Thank goodness I found the DISboards!

It's gonna be freakin' hot! But, there are lots of places to get in out of the heat - trees for shade - and water rides for a quick splash! Mid-day definitely take a break - go to resort - hit the pool or stay in the room and watch a Disney movie. If you go commando all day, take a clean t-shirt and socks to put on in the late afternoon, it will refresh you. Baby powder helps too.
Stay hydrated and have fun!
BTW - we have relatives in St. Louis - it gets pretty dang hot up there in July too! I think anywhere is hot in July, so it won't be a big shock to you or anything.

Oh, it's really hot, I'm not gonna lie. One specific piece of advice I have is that when you sit down to watch a parade, look at the position of the sun, even if it's behind a cloud. We were so excited to get a bench to sit on for Star and Motor Cars. We thought it was weird that one side of the street was packed, but just a few minutes before the start, the other side was empty. Well we sat, the parade started...and the clouds moved! I swear to you, I have never sweat so much in my entire life and I wasn't even moving! There was sweat literally dripping off of my face.

Other that that specific advice, I'd say it's not so bad. Just don't stay outside for too long of a stretch at a time. Duck into a store, stop and have lunch, go on a long, slow moving ride. You don't ever really have to stay outside for too long.

Typically, it rains for a short time (15 mins or so) each afternoon in the summer but it varies. Last year, we woke up one morning to rain and it was on and off pretty much all morning. The rest of the trip was dry, except for a quick shower one late evening. We had rain jackets that I bought on my year-long honeymoon shopping frenzy and they really came in handy that one morning. We had ponchos one year and they were good for nothing! So I'd say, if you have them, good...but if not, no big deal. So you get wet! You'll dry off in 5 mins in the heat!!

I love Florida in July! Yes, it is hot and sticky, and it does rain. But, the parks are open late and it is easier to pack for. I would definately pack ponchos. A few years we never used them, but last year we got our money's worth off and on. We like the afternoon break - but we kind of wing it every day and do what works. We have APs or we get park hoppers so if a park is crowded, we will hop. Plan on lots of water - keep well hydrated, we have seen people pass out in the heat. I still say the July crowds are nothing compared to the week before Easter, so not to worry. Take advantage of EMH - if you can do the late EMH at MK it is a real bonus.

As for our story.....we finally took the kids in 2004 for our "one time trip" over spring break. Well, the crowds were huge and even with commando touring we did not see everything. We went back in 2005 for 10 days. We snagged a great deal for free dining in 2006 but only did 7 days and DH admitted, it was not enough time. He was hooked, finally. So, since I was able to prove to him how much more cost effective APs are. We have bought them every other year and with planning have been every summer since, plus a few spring breaks and a Thanksgiving trip. We considered DVC, but since we like the longer, more frequent trips we cannot justify the cost of the dues for a 1-2 bedroom which is what we would want. We also like trying new resorts - so that is what we do. We have hit all of the Deluxe resorts except for AK, after this summer we will have stayed at all of the values except for AS Movies, and we have stayed at CBR. We still need to get in the other mods.

I am just grateful that we get to go as often as we do.

I'll be there from the 2nd -11th with my Mom. Celebrating my birthday! We are staying at Coronado Springs.
