OK, so there I was, ready to write something on this thread this morning...when all of a sudden, my internet, TV and phone all went out.

So I really need to vent....A truck came down the block this morning and knocked down the wire that connects us to Verizon Fios. Everything was still working. DH was outside on hold when he called Verizon, and he was making sure the cars did not drive into the hanging wire. It's not that busy of a street, but we do get some light traffic in the morning. A couple of cars stopped when they saw my DH and thanked him, then turned around. All of a sudden, a school bus came down the block and drove straight into the wire, completely taking it down. That's when our TV, internet and phone all went out. That is not even close to the worst part though...when the wire fell down, it hit my DH on both legs. He has 2 scrapes on the left lower leg, and one scrape on the other. He spoke to the driver who just argued (the school bus was driving children to day camp). He did get the license plate number, and he noticed the us picking up the daughter of our neighbor from down the street. He rang their bell and found out the name of the camp where the bus was going, and he called there. The director answered and said she was very busy and would call him back. Still no call of course.

Anyway, Verizon came and fixed it, and they hung the new wire 2 feet higher than the old was used to be. What ticked us off the most was that this is the second time this has happened, and we're not even living in this house for 6 years yet! Last time this happened DH tried to convince the technician to raise the wire a little so that trucks don't hit it, but they refused. This time we had someone really nice and he did raise it. Everything is now in working order!

On the brighter side, I went to get my hair color done and a haircut. I feel like myself again and we leave on exactly one week!!

And the best part about today is that it is my parents' 37th anniversary!! We're all going out to dinner to celebrate, then back to my house.

Oh, and Happy Canada Day to all my friends up north, and I know my family up in Ottawa is having a blast today! :goodvibes

And it's finally JULY!!!!! :woohoo:

I just bought a Swiss Gear suitcase at Target--they were on sale last week. They aren't cheap (it's a 28" with swivel wheels and was on sale for $99) or too expensive. DH has used the Swiss Gear wheeled carry-on for some time now and our old bag finally died(zipper) so I got this. Our only other large suitcase is DD's zebra-striped one and I couold just imagine the looks DH would get wheeeling that through the airport (especially on a business trip!!)

I have looked at those. I should have bought it last week! Ugh!

I thought I had this brand, and I didn't buy it at Target the other day. The one I have has unraveled on one corner and the fabric has come loose. Well, I just looked at it to be sure of the brand to not buy it again. And it is NOT the Target brand. Mine is Delsey and actually came from Dillards. Go figure.

I am not only on dis right now, but playing the planning DVD on TV - itching to pick up my itouch to check Lines!!! :rotfl2:

We bought a cheap set from Target a couple of years ago. It was like $79 for an extra large, large, medium, rolling duffel and carry on. We used them on flights about four times without any damage... Usually, I would worry about the quality for the price, but the set has been fab!

(Of course, I think Vera is the way to spot it on the carousel!):rolleyes1

I love LINES!!! I check it more than I check the weather!

Maybe Target is just the luggage place!!! I have a cheap suitcase from Wal-mart, one I bought at midnight just before a trip a couple of years ago. I think it is called Protege. It is holding up better than my Samonsite and Delsey (which I know have researched to know that it bought at Dillards!)

Of course I would love Vera, but I worry what she would look like when coming off the carousel. I think I would faint if it had a spot on it!

Yes, thank goodness he is doing all right. When the technician from Verizon came to fix the problem, my DH told him what happened. He informed DH that inside those wires is the same material they use to make bullet-proof vests! :scared1: So he wasn't surprised that it hurt him.

He cleaned the wounds with alcohol pads immediately after it happened (burned to high heaven he said, but he did it), put neosporin on them and covered them with sterile gauze pads and first aid tape. Yes, they covered that large an area that a band-aid was not big enough. He's trying to prevent infection. He already removed the gauze pad from the right leg, and will do the same to the left leg a little later on to let the air get to it. (The left leg is worse than the right). But, he is still putting neosporin for now. If you look at it, you can barely notice it. It's a very faded pink color.

Thanks for asking!

I just bought a new suitcase about a month ago from Marshall's. It's Tommy Hilfiger and it's green and pink with blue pinstripes on the inside. (I have some pics if you want to see.) I LOVE it and the best part was that the retail price was $300 and Marshall's had it on sale for $60!!:banana: It's just one large rolling suitcase, not a set, but I normally only need one and then a carry bag, so I was thrilled :goodvibes

I'm so glad your DH is ok! How scary!!! (Sorry, I didn't want to take up space by quoting your whole post ;) )

Glad your DH is ok! More importantly, glad your tv, phone and internet are back!;):lmao:

I swear it doesn't matter how much you spend on a suitcase--the baggage handlers are just so rough on them, they just don't last all that long.

I would take a picture of the injury just in case. You know, in case you have to battle it out with the bus driver or something.

Woah I've been away for a few days - I had nearly 20 pages to read!!

Anyway - finish school tomorrow for the hols!! Going to a wedding on Saturday and staying over so Sunday will probably be accounted for. Monday - organising commences :yay::yay::yay:!!

10 days time we'll be in the US of A!!! Cannot wait!!!! Waaaaaaaaaay too excited!!:rotfl:

See I have a couple of overlapping ADRs and a couple of people checking in to CSR a day or two before we check out so maybe see some of you!! We're the pale Scots with the cute little blonde 2 year old boy!! Say hi!!

That sounds so cute!!!! And what a bargain. We do not have Mashall's here but we do have TJ Maxx. Maybe I should try there!

So glad your DH is OK. What a day!

I decided to only get one filling done. I'm home and still numb but it's over. :goodvibes

Now, although I'm going solo and DBF and DD2 will be home this weekend, I still feel as though I need to finish cleaning and organizing. :rotfl: Not that it matters because I know the house is going to look like a hurricane came through!

One full day tomorrow and I'm hoping to fill it up with activities for DD2 so the time will fly by.

Yes! Check TJ Maxx! They don't always have as much homey type stuff as Marshall's, but they do sometimes have luggage. Here's a pic of my suitcase:

ETA: Sorry they're so big!!!! ;)

Yes, thank goodness he is doing all right.

You might suggest that your DH see the doctor, too. Sometimes infections can set in a few days later and I'd hate to see that happend right before vacation. The doctor might be able to provide some meds to prevent that.

Also, take pictures and record everything, who you talk to, etc. Like PP said, if it does become something bigger (i.e., infection, etc), you want to have a record of it all.
