Official inaugural Tower of Terror 10 miler thread. September 29, 2012

I'm sorry if this was mentioned earlier, I scrolled back a bit but didn't see the answer.

How are you finding your bin numbers this early? I didn't get mine until packet pickup. Thanks :-)

Your bib number is on the waiver that you have to sign and turn in at packet pick up. The official email hasn't gone out yet, that I know of, with the link to the waivers, but a good internet sleuth found it the other day and noticed yesterday that it was activated...here's the link they posted to get to your waiver if you want to check yours out :)

Bib number 7982 (I think, I know it's 79 something)

There is a 10k in CT Sept. 8th. However last year 100 people and the slowest was 11min/mile. (I'm closer to 12-13 depending on how hot it is) Plus it's 2hrs away and two of the street names are Hill St and Mountain something. It looks very hilly.

There are also two half marathons in the upcoming weeks but not sure I'm really ready for those.

Just wondering what time do I need on a 10k or half to be able to submit a time? I looked all over rundisney but don't see the info. I think a half is under 3hrs, but what is the 10k time?

For ToT they only accept proof of time if you are expected to finish in 2 hours or less. So...let's see how good my math is :) that's 10 miles in 120 minutes at minimum...so a 12 minute mile? A 12 min. mile for a 10k would be a tad over an hour and 14 minutes...so, I think that's right, but my logic isn't always normal...anyone else have any other ideas? I'd say if you can get an official time anywhere near or under 1:14 for a 10k, bring it with you to the expo and see what they'll do...even if it's a few minutes over 1:14, you never know. I know when I ran a 10k for proof of time for the Princess Half, the expected finish time that they placed me in based on that time seemed pretty generous :) Hope that helps some!

That's middle, which is about right for a 13mm. I put 2:10 (exactly 13 minutes, my goal for this race!) and am 5731, most likely the same corral as you. I am guessing we are probably C or D out of A-F, but they may be smaller and go to G...

Thank you guys for the support! I don't have much running experience, having only done a 5k and 10k. It seemed like everyone was posting very low bibs, so I figured I was going to be in the back. I feel better about it now.

I ran my longest run on Sunday (9.35 miles) and even with pouring down rain and heat, I still managed to keep it around 13 min miles. I switched training today back to the 5k101 program so I could work on running for longer than 1 min at a time. I got 2 miles in doing 3 mins/2 mins on the treadmill, but after that and walking the dog for 2 miles my inside right shin is hurting. I did run with the new insoles, so I don't know if it's that or the soreness from the long run or what.

I'm 1122, DFi is 1101, BFF is somewhere in the 1900s, and her DH is 4000 something. So, what do you think the chances are we can get him moved to whatever corral we're in?
:-/

He'll have to be able to show proof of time at the expo from a valid race that puts him in the expected finish time with others in your corral. If he can't, they will allow you all to move back into his corral so you can all run together...for that, you don't have to do anything but just go into his corral...nothing needs to be changed at the expo. :thumbsup2

Well, as much as my late corral # stinks, with a 13:30mm #9202 seems about right. Hopefully I can stay ahead of the sweepers. I did sign up for a USTAF 15k for Monday so maybe my time will be good enough to submit.

DH ran a quarter marathon on Sunday with an 8:29 pace. If he brings his proof of time (a print out of the race results?) to the expo, does anyone have a guesstimate for corral placement for him? Trying to decide if we'll stick together or not for the race....

That's right around the pace my BF ran in a half that he used for his proof of time...he got bib #337, which will definitely put him in A! If you're not in A though and you want to run together, he can drop back to your corral with no problem.

Corral Breakdown from Facebook-

‎1-20 elite
21-2500 corral a
2501-5000 corral b
5001-7500 corral c
7501-10400 corral d

I was super excited about being in C, then saw it was almost the last corral. :)

Thanks, Cripey!

Those are some big corrals! (well for me, I'm not used to the bigger races :))

I'm not a facebook expert. Could you please point me in the direction of this information. Thank you.

It was on the Tower of Terror Facebook group from a email from runDisney. I believe it's a closed group, so it may not show up if you just search.

Usually if you all wan to start in the same corral you can, but they'll make you move back to whomevers corral is last. So it sounds like you are all in either a or b except for the person with the 4000 bib. They'd make you all go back to that corral if you wanted to start together, usually I don't think they allow moving up.

Got my waiver, bib 4611. I need to get my 10K time in - does anyone know if it's worth emailing runDisney now to try and do that, or just bring the time with me? What kind of proof of time do they need (I have a printout of the finish times by name from the 10K).

Can you tell I'm such a newbie? The 10K was my first race *ever,* and this is my first runDisney anything. :)

The deadline to email times was Aug. 1 so your only option now is to bring your proof to the expo...if your 10k time moves you up in corrals, they will put a sticker on your bib reflecting the new corral...easy-peasy :) As far as I know, a print out of the results will suffice as your proof...I'm not sure if they take the time then and there to verify online or not though.

Just looked up and printed our waivers! 2191 and 2192!!

What emails have been going out from RunDisney? I've gotten diddly-squat...

^^ Ditto - thanks all! :thumbsup2 I'm in the 6000's, too, and thought I'd be waaaaay far back. I'm not worried much about being swept, but I'd prefer not to be standing around forever, waiting to start!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I've been running on the treadmill this week, thanks to Isaac's rain and wind, and no outside knee pain (IT band) at all, so that's good news! I'm supposed to do 10 miles Saturday, but I plan to stop as soon as pain starts. Hoping that's not until at least 8 miles...
I belong to that group but I didn't get an email. :(
