Official inaugural Tower of Terror 10 miler thread. September 29, 2012

Who wants to tell me about compression socks? What brands do you like/love, which ones do you skip and why? Socks vs sleeves? I want to get a pair, but the cost is holding me back.

I bought a pair of CEP sleeves last year and loooooove them. They are the only pair I've ever had, so I can't compare brands for you. Honestly, I picked them mostly because they carried them in lime green (and PINK!), I knew I had heard of other runners using this brand, and they sold them on Zappos.com, where I'm a VIP member and get free overnight shipping...sold. ;) I went with sleeves instead of full socks because I'm very very short and I can't find any full compression socks that don't go way over my knees :worried: As it is, the sleeves practically tuck into my no-show socks and go all the way to the bend in my knee! Anyway, I found that I don't necessarily like to run in them, but they are pure MAGIC for recovery. Seriously. I wear them all day after a really long training run or a half and my calves don't feel anything the next day.

I went and got my new sneakers yesterday. I tried so hard to branch out and try on some new styles. I was soo close to the mizzuzi (sp?) but just couldn't do it and ended up with my beloved Saucony brand. Been wearing them since track in 9th grade (gosh that's almost 20yrs now!) and my feet just  them!
I say, if it ain't broke, don't "fix" it! :thumbsup2

Also, does anyone carry pepper spray when they run? How do you carry it and what type?
I don't, but I probably should after my run-in with a coyote. So I'm interested to see your replies...

Wait - they're not supposed to do that?! :rotfl: (5'1" here ;) )

poohbear - I don't use socks, either, but do love my Zensah compression sleeves. I use them every long run and short runs when I'm having issues with calves and shins. A second pair means I have clean ones to wear for recovery, too.

I did between 11.75 and 12 miles today. That fuzzy Disney math crept in.:lmao:
Any way you slice it, double digits - nothing Fuzzy about that!

Can you upgrade the park tickets that you can buy through the special sports price link? It goes up to a 7 day ticket but we might need a 10 day ticket. Can I go to guest relations and just pay the difference? Would the ticket value be the regular price or discounted TOT10 miler price?

Getting so excited!

Just to help pass the time thought I'd ask: where is everyone from? Is everyone making a vacation out of this?

We are from MA and we will arrive on Friday before the race and stay until the next Saturday. Husband and I are both running and my parents will be there watching with our kids!

BF and I are running...we're from TX and also arriving on Friday. We're planning to stay until Wednesday evening so we'll have a few days to binge at, I mean ENJOY, the F&W fest. :thumbsup2

I'm coming in from southeast Michigan on Friday.

Meeting with some of my dearest friends (who have grown into liking running) from Colorado and Massachusetts.

I have to be back to work on Monday, so its a short trip for me, but well worth it for an inaugural race and to spend some time with my friends at a place we truly love.

Both the DW and myself are flying in from TX on Thursday night. We are also making a vacation of it and staying until the following Sunday morning. :thumbsup2

Can't wait for the F&W Festival!

DH and I are flying in late Thursday and staying until Sunday, sans children. Yay!

We are from Northern Kentucky (basically Cincinnati) and we are taking our big family trip for the year Sept 22-30 so the race is on our last night! I have no idea what we were thinking....it is a GREAT idea to run a 10-mile race after a week of stuffing ourselves with food and drink, right? :rotfl2:

This is EXACTLY why we are doing ToT instead of the W&D half again since they moved it to the last weekend of the festival...we didn't want to have to run a race after walking and gorging all week.

I bought a pair of CW-X compression socks after recommendations here on the DIS and after reading the Amazon reviews. Mine are knee high and after I ran the half in January at WDW, I put them on and used them for the car ride home (8 hours). Loved them. The compression stitching on the feet is what I loved most...it felt like my foot was snug and bandaged, yet very ventilated.

My husband and I are from Southern IN and are both running. We will be arriving on Friday and going home on the following Monday (Oct. 1). Short trip as we will be back in November for a week with friends for the Food and Wine Festival.

Memphis, TN here! Big family vacation, going with parents, sister, bro-in-law, and their 4 kids. I'm the only one running the big race but my dad is doing the 5k with me if I'm up to it. The parents and I will get in Thursday evening through the following Friday. Sis and her fam are getting in on Saturday evening so they'll miss all the race festivities. It's a shame, too because their oldest was on the cross country team this past school year and all of them except the 2 youngest have done some local 5ks. I just couldn't talk them into coming in a day earlier to participate.

Ran three miles today. Not as much as I wanted, but it's too hot outside to run, and I get bored easily while running inside.

I live in Tampa and will be coming over for just the weekend. I have to get back to get ready to out-process from the Air Force for the final time since I have my retirement ceremony on Oct 12th!!!!!

I will be making several trips over the Epcot for F&W, and then running the W&D Half for my birthday (11/11).

Busy fall for me! :)

Thank you for the replies about socks/sleeves. I actually meant to ask about sleeves. I found some socks I really like, so I will be adding sleeves. Guess I will suck it up and pay the $$ for them. :thumbsup2

I'm from Northern Virginia. I will be there Thursday-Tuesday night. I am the only runner, but I will have DD (15) and her BFF (17). It's a birthday trip for both of them.

The DH and I will be flying in on Thursday morning and leaving Monday morning, so it's just a long weekend trip for us. We aren't visiting any of the parks other than MK for MNSSHP on Sunday. It's suppose to be both DH and I running, but he's still recovering from a stress fracture in his foot, so we aren't sure if he'll be able to run just yet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed though!

We are from WNY-going on a family vacation from Weds-Tues. My mom is running the 5k (I may join her) and DH and I are running the 10mile. :)

We are staying in the Treehouse Villas fr the 1st time! Can't wait!

Another Tampa Bay area runner here! I'll only be over for the night of the race, but with weekends planned for MNSSHP, the W&D 5K, Thanksgiving weekend and a pre-Christmas day or two, I can't complain. :rotfl:
