Am I the only one who is a little baffled by the helmets?

I've skated a few times over here in the UK. I'm awful... knee pads? They'd be nice. Padding for my behind? Yep, that would be great! Maybe even gloves... but I have never feared for my head in the many times I fell on the ice! My head is always the least of my worries! ;) (I've also never seen anyone wear one on the ice over here!)

The Premier Theater is decked out for the Frozen singalong!

Also a note for those who bought the premium package:

If you bought the Frozen premium viewing package be aware that they fill in empty spots for the Sing Along with non-package guests.

We feel the same way. This may be the deal breaker for us. We were 50/50 on lugging skates to the park. My daughter wants to bring her USFSA testing certificates to show she doesn't need a helmet. I told her that won't work.

Another question or two - do you have to pay to rent the helmets or is it included in the skating price?
:debwalk:
Are there any characters skating during the session?

It won't work. I tried using my psa membership as bargaining power in my defense lol. I can safely say there is no way anyone is getting on that ice without a helmet for any reason. It's for the best. Otherwise the concussion toll I'm sure would be high by sept 1.

Just saw a photo of the crowd for the parade/welcome. Goodness gracious!!! I'm a little anxious about Thursday! I am under 5 ft - hope they don't stampede over me!

The locals and lifestylers are out in full force today.

I'm pretty sure our ice skating rink here doesn't even have helmets for rent, but I will say that several years back DH and I went on a double date with my friend whose then GF thought she was Kristi Yamaguchi and was trying to do spins, and we ended up spending the rest of the evening in the ER after she landed and hit her head. She had a concussion...so I guess I see where Disney is coming from, although I think broken arms and legs are much more likely injuries.

You'll probably need to line-up by 9:30 and then head straight to the rope as soon as you enter the area. We are a family of 5-footers so we know what you are dealing with! ;)

I've never seen helmets required before. I have seen lots of beginners wear helmets during public sessions and Learn to Skate classes. Usually, beginners are more dangerous to others than themselves because they don't have the control yet. The worst I've seen is when an out of control skater with a helmet crashed into someone with no helmet.

My daughter and son want to be able to say they skated at Disney World. So we'll see.

Inside the magic just posted a youtube video too. It shows more of the theme inside the area than WDWmagic as a heads up. Oh and I'm in that one too. Lol

Lovethatink is deep in Frozen fun this morning. But she wanted me to pass a few things along: *She got in the check-in line for the premium package around 9:45 and was 20th in line. *There's one line to check in and get your package lanyard, then another to select your singalong tickets. *There are a finite number of tickets for each show, so the people who check in earlier will have the best selection of show times. *The parade viewing for the package includes two different flavors of Frozen lemonade, Coke products and unlimited Mickey bars/ice cream bars. *The parade is scheduled to come down Hollywood Boulevard, stop at the hat stage for the royal welcome, and then will continue down past American Idol to Star Tours. There are ropes along the whole route. *And the line for the merchandise at Oaken's Trading Post (and Sauna!) has been long since EMH began this morning. At one point, it reached TSM.

Does the whole party have to be in line to check in and get lanyards and sing-a-long showtimes? My daughter wanted to try to do the audition for American Idol when we at rope drop. Does anyone think this is a possibility?

Yes. But then you can come and go as you please.

Just saw this tweet from Morgan Crutchfield @centralmorgan:

The line into Oaken's for ice skating & treats also gets you into the merch shop & is much shorter.

Having taught ice skating for quite some time- I have seen a lot of head injuries. It is a smart move by Disney. (Even more so now that I read all the skaters are hockey skates. Beginners tend to go over backwards on those a lot more due to the blade shape. The tail of the figure skate helps that.)
