Official "Friends of the Fort" Weight Loss Group!

I am 22, go to UF for grad school (go Gators ::yes:: ) and I am applying to Ph.D. programs currently (cross your fingers for me) The Ph.D. program makes you pretty amazing in my book! What's your major?

I went to the weight doctor (in CLearwater, FL: Dr. Lara) and was put on a strict plan! A friend of mine is currently going to the Dr. that came up with this plan & since February has lost 48lbs. It's expensive, but apparantly works. PLUS, she is learning how to eat healthy.

At your age Lucy, it is MUCH easier to get the weight off!! If you get things under control now, and train yourself to stick to a healthy life-style, you will avoid a lot of the problems us "oldies" encounter.

Start training now for the Disney 5K!! NTSammy5 is my brother, which would make his DD my niece. (Good deduction, huh?)

Are you going to UF in Seminole? I don't know if they have any kind of work-out facility there, but because you are a student, you would get a nice discount at the YMCA. Our "Y" in Lakeland is EXCELLENT!! It has an indoor and an outdoor track and plenty of equipment to accomodate the busy times. The ones in downtown Sarasota & downtown Tampa were also great gyms. Check it out and good luck to you!

We were down at WDW in January to watch my DD run the marathon. She did a 5K for a warm up two days before the marathon. We went to see here run one (along with her husband) in Burlington, VT in May.

She had never run a marathon before the Disney one in January and trained for about 6 months prior to get in shape. If you really set your mind to it, you can do it! Good luck.

Thank you! That's encouraging that your daughter was able to do it :thumbsup2

sorry, I don't know how to do multiple responses :confused3

I know, that's the only thing I have going for me, my age! I have digestive problems that my 84 year old Nana has, so that is going make it a little slower for me.

I go to UF in Gainesville, I am in Clearwater right now visiting my folks. They have a really nice gym there, but I am intimidated by the gym, all skinny pretties there! My apt. complex has a small gym that works, I guess. An indoor track would be nice, thanks for all the info :)

Sorry to burst your bubble, but their is a UF satellite campus in Seminole, Fl. (St.Pete area). I think it's a funny contradition!! There are times I wish I were on crack, tho!:hyper:

It's a deal!

I'm about to have ice cream with my daughters. Should I feel guilty about this? I worked really hard today! probably burned tons of calories!:worried:

Sorry Ami!! I didn't get a chance to get back on-line after you posted this!! I think ice cream every once in a while is ok. We have a brand here called Turkey Hill. They make a "light" recipe too. All of the flavors are sooooo good! And I feel a little less guilty because they're less fat and calories than the regular. Best part is that it really tastes like the regular!!! I do the same thing with popcorn - I just eat the 94% fat free if I really need some. Once you get used to the lighter versions they taste pretty good.

If it makes you feel better (I know misery loves company ;) ) I was very bad this weekend. I had way too much light ice cream and popcorn!!! Oh well, today is another day....

I had a lousy weekend for eating. We went to MILs house and there it is nothing but chips, sodas, white bread, bacon and sweet tea! I didn't eat a lot, but what I did eat was junk! I'm hoping it's my imagination, but my pants feel tighter today :scared1:

I actually feel like I am itching to exercise today!!!

Oh, please don't feel bad. I am sitting here eating a piece of DS's graduation cake. I have eaten soooo much food in the last four days. I am sure the 9 pounds I lost are probably back and just waiting to scream at me, WE'RE HERE!!!

I forget to post here because I've been busy NOT trying to think of having to lose weight but since we have started this thread I have lost 12 pounds, I was off to a rocky start in the beginning but I've got it going now. Good luck to everyone this week, stay busy and try not to think about food...haha

Ok, it sounds like we all need to focus! How do we DO that?????

BTW, I just read back a few pages...

Welcome DEB!!!!!!! :yay:

Welcome Lucy love!!!!! :goodvibes

I've had a rough few days here too. We haven't done much grocery shopping since we are trying to empty out the fridge before our trip. It's kind of eat what's available or starve. Since there are lots of snack available we've been enjoying those. So far the scale is cooperating, but it is only a matter of time. We are so excited and can't wait until Friday when we leave :cool1:

Well I feel a little bit better. I just did my Yoga Booty Ballet DVD. Gosh I love that thing!

Yoga Booty Ballet DVD???

That sounds like military torture to me!!!:rotfl2:

DH came home tonight with a coupon for Hooters, buy 10 wings-get 10 wings free - so we went there for dinner. Normally, I love Hooter's wings, but tonite they are sitting like a heavy weight in my tummy. Maybe God's trying to tell me something?

For breakfast I had 8oz F/F Peach Yogurt w/3/4c honey nut cheerios. Lunch, salad w/FF Ranch, and then Hooters wings for dinner. The wings weren't worth all the fat and calories. <burp!>

Good job everyone! I know how you feel about trying to eat what's left in the pantry, especially being a college student, I find myself doing that a lot. ::yes::

I weighed in today at the doc early because I have to go back to school early, but I lost 3 pounds in 2 days. I'm sure it's just water weight, but you have to start somewhere :)

My diet is super strict and since I am a picky eater, I have been eating a turkey dog for breakfast :rotfl:

Lucy....just curious...are you on Atkins, induction phase?

Rog - She's under a Dr's supervised weight loss program. Strict diet & shots. I have two friends that have gone that route. IIRC the Dr that "invented" this system is in the Tampa Bay area. It's very expensive, but the results are amazing! A friend of Rick's - actually a former boss - lost 82lbs in 7 or 8 months. A friend of mine has been on the program since Feb/Mar and has already lost 48lbs. My understanding is that you eat a lot of lean protein and veggies - very little fat and starches - so it' more like South Beach Diet. That, coupled with the meds, brings results, and teaches you a healthy diet life-style. The real trick is keeping up with the life-style once you've obtained your weight loss goal. Just look at Kirstie Ally since she walked away from Jenny Craig!! Can you say "blimp"?

No, Des. answered your question perfectly. It is a very strict keitosis stage. As soon as I am out of that stage, I add in non-starchy veggies such as, green beans and selected fruits. Like des. said, I am on a weekly shot, and other prescribed medications. Then I go into another stage where I learn how to add in other foods successfully. In the Tampa Bay area, supposedly this guy is incredible and the office has been jam packed every time I go, so I hope my money is worth it; it's very expensive.

Thanks des! It's encouraging to hear those success stories with this program. I think since it is so expensive, it would behoove me to stick to it and try my hardest.

Welcome Deb and Lucy! Good luck with your programs.

Ami, your "yoga booty ballet" inspired me yesterday to get off my booty! I'm not much of an exercise person, but last night a friend and I decided to go walking. We did 1.6 mile. Hey, it's a start!

Deb, you would think $ would be a motivator. Unfortunately, I have been spending a small fortune on Medifast and not completely sticking with it!!

I lost 10 lbs my first week. 20 lbs total first month. If only it kept going like that... I guess if you eat enough "light" ice cream and popcorn, eventually it's not "light" anymore!! :lmao: I HAVE to get motivated again.

Hi everyone. I really need to lose some weight. I hoping joining you guys, I can get on track and stay there!
