Official Disneyana Mystery Event

I'm probably out of the loop, and perhaps someone has already covered this, but...

I just received word from Disney that there will be NO Disneyana Convention in 2002. Instead, WDW will host the Official Disneyana Mystery Event (a 3-day event with rather nebulous activities).

Does anyone know (1) why Disney has decided not to have the full-fledged Convention and (2) of a more complete schedule, guest speakers, etc.

It seems to be scheduled about the same time the big pin event was scheduled last summer--toward the end of August.

Any enlightenment would be appreciated!

From what I understand Disneyana will be held at Disney's California Adventure this year. I have not heard about "Disneyana Mystery". I will ask at work on sat. someone will know about it.

The Official Disneyana Mystery will be held at WDW August 22-24, 2002. I've just received a tentative schedule of events, and most of our favorite activities will still be available (the auction, Artists' Showcase, Disneyana Discoveries, Seminars, etc.)

As you said the Disneyana Convention is no more. They have changed the dates...altered the format...shortened the timeline...and eliminated the final night event... (Now to be a final morning breakfast)
For anyone who has gone before, you know what I mean when I say...You are running around trying to get it all in now... so by shortening the dates, this should be interesting!

Not only is it shorter....they have moved it to August (Tons of people in the parks) UGH!
At least in September the majority of the last minute summer vacationers were back home and their childeren in school. But what can you do! I am a Disney Junky, so I will be there.

When they announced the date changes at this years convention many of the long time attendees were quite upset. When I asked about the change, suposedly they are due to feed back forms received at the end of previous conventions....Total cost issues, the dates were not convienent, etc...

So instead they have reduced the cost...not really when you look at 2 nights accomidations vs. 4 nights, and they have taken away the banquet parties.
So now you pay less, but when you break it down per night, you are paying more.
But I guess most people will look at the total price tag and think it is more affordable.

Don't get me wrong I am sure Disney will do a wonderful job on the new Mysteries but, I have been going to the Convention for 4 years and love the fact that I can take a extra long vacation and only take 4 days off work, due to the labor day weekend.
