Holy cow! My brother called me tonight and told me some guy tried to mug him. He was on his way home from work and had to get off the Interstate because of an accident. He had absolutely no idea where he was and his cell phone had died so he pulled into a gas station, in a not-so-nice part of town, and called his wife on a pay phone. When he hung up a guy approached him from an alley and asked for a dollar. My brother is a nice guy and would've given him a buck but he had absolutely no cash on him and told the man that. So the man pulls out a knife and says "Then I'll take your credit cards."

As my brother is slowly reaching for his wallet a huge, long line a police cars and motorcycles, that are escorting military tanks, drive by. This, of course, held the man's attention long enough for my brother to knock the knife out of the guy's hand, which caused the man to punch my brother in the face. My brother is not small by any means (6'5"/240lbs) and defended himself. After my brother broke the man's nose the man decided it wasn't worth it and took off. My brother came away with a fat lip, black eye and bruised knuckles. The mugger ended up with a broken nose, bloody face and a missing tooth.

My brother told me that the guy looked like he was high. He said he had a feeling that even if he had given him his wallet that the guy still would've tried to stab him. Oy! I need a drink.

Jules--that is so scary...but I am glad to hear your brother is ok.

Athenna-Hope you had a great time.

Kim--just a few more days!!!:rolleyes1

Nichole-Hey-girl!!!

...yes.....tomorrow is THE DAY my DB will find out whether they will cut off just below his knee or above it.....they did already cut off the big toe...apparently, he has that infection like MRSA, which is eating away 1" of bone every 3 days (or something like that) and he is really in bad spirits....my mom has been saying Novenas for him....I just can't believe that the hospital kept putting it off and putting it off and putting it off.....now it's REALLY serious....:sad1: He's just not taking this well at all.....and everyone in his family is really at wit's end right now......:guilty:

OK everyone-I am planning a Trip for Christmas 2008!!! Anyone intrested in a meet?....come on were are 12 months away(school break) and time to save up....make your ressies now and then we can pay them off over the summer!!!:woohoo:

...nope - there was a problem with his knee. That's how they found out the infection has spread - I don't think there is a cure....:sad2:

So can they do a mid-femoral cut or is this bone loss every where? Chemo or intense Antibotics(the super ones)? Either way it is horrible- and praying for the best for all of you:grouphug: :sad2:

....right now, I guess they are hoping to SAVE the knee (I imagine for better prostheic fittings...)...it's much worse if they have to cut ABOVE the knee....

...to make matters worse, they live down the shore, in Bayville, while my sister and other brother live here in No. Bergen County, near me.....

Yes traditionally the prostetheics are better below the knee...but there have been a ton of advances(DH is a Biomedical engineer)-If you have your origional knee joint your natural gait is better...but above the knee is not as bad as they once were. Not that I am hoping for either for your brother:sad2: -I wish there was some way they could save the leg entotal-:sad1:

I do know that with diabetics- the larger the blood flow(femoral artery) the better the chance. But from what you are posting besides the diabetics, there is a pervasive infection. Is your brother in the hosptial now? I know here- you are hospitalized and they can put you on strong IV antibotics. Is Bayville known for top medical treatments-? Either way:grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

...no. In fact, they kept putting it off because of 'insurance reasons' - in other words, insurance didn't want to cover it...I can't help thinking that it wouldn't be as serious as it has now gotten if they had taken care of it wa-a-a-ay back. remember, the infection started from a cut under his big toe back at the end of JUNE.....

Oh, gosh, Kim, I am so sorry for what you are all going through:grouphug:
Dont you dare apologize, we are all here for you:grouphug:

canwegosoon-I would love to meet up, but alas you'll be there later than me, I will be there 10/28-11/4...(I think, I haven't booked it yet).

My biopsy was this morning...I did it without any novocaine at all:scared1:
10 needles, 5 in each nodule....Doc said I was her 1st ever patient to have no novocaine at all....They gave me a round of applause afterwards, and thanked me for being such a good patient:goodvibes

Now, I wait for the results, thats the scary part:eek:
