OFFICIAL D23 Membership available for all Disney fans--Will you join too? UPDATE

I have no interest to join that, especially at that price. I don't think it's worth it.

I'm with you. A magazine? After all the hoopla I expected more than that. I would never attend the convention and $75 hard-earned bucks to be a charter member and get a membership card and 4 issues of a magazine just isn't worth it to me.

I never even got my email. :sad1: I don't know if I'll join. I'll have to poke around the website and see if there is anything I want besides the magazines. I know I'm not going to DL this fall.

I didn't get the email, either even though I signed up on the teaser webpage. Not sure yet if I'll fork over the cash. This is a definite no-no for me according to Dave Ramsey!

Unfortunately the email was primarily a viral thing. It will take hours (if not days) to deliver the email due to practical limitations. The flow has to be very controlled.

Waste of money. If you want to see an incredible magazine, check out "Celebrations". I think this is just a way of Disney trying to "own" the market on their magazines and discussion boards. Too bad the "DIS" and others have beat them at their own game! :lmao:

Ouch!

Anyone know what the significance of the number 23 is with this?

Welcome to the world's first official community for Disney fans!
Named in honor of the year 1923, when Walt left Kansas City, headed for Hollywood and founded what would become the Disney Studios, D23 gives Disney fans VIP access to all things Disney through this brand-new Web site; Disney twenty-three, the club's beautiful quarterly magazine; and, in perhaps the most exciting news of all, the D23 Expo, a Disney fan mega event to be held at the Anaheim Convention Center this fall!

I'm joining ASAP.

Sure, maybe I'm being suckered in, but geez, for me, just being able to say I'm a charter member is worth big bucks to me. ;) I'm just that Disney crazy. The convention sounds GREAT, and I hope I can get there! Maybe in the future there will be D23-Dis Meets at these events! Lime Green Mickeys galore!

The way I see it, considering the fact that this is its first official day in action and it's already offering ALL this(first small event set up, Disney Expo, First film screening in the works, Magazine subscription, exclusive merch, etc...) they will have MUCH more to offer as time goes by and the popularity goes up (hopefully). I'm hoping maybe some Disney vacation discounts? I can dream can't I? It's not that far fetched!

I think the problem is that the mystery campaign was designed to lure in HARDCORE Disney addicts who would want to follow the progress of the campaign, and it ended up drawing in all kinds of Disney fans. In truth, this is really for the intense fanatics, considering the biggest draw (I think) is the events and meetings they promise.

Well I'm psyched!!! :woohoo:

I was telling DH about it and he said "you have 20 minutes to join.... do it now!!! I'll pay!!" So I did!!:rotfl2:

I mean, how could I not do something DH wanted me to do....:confused3

I guess paying for plane tickets from Minnesota to Florida four or five times a year for week to 10 day visits at a time, having annual passes for years, buying the DDE, and having loads of Disney collectibles and movies just isn't hard core enough. I must be a casual Disney fan and I didn't even know it!

:rotfl: Congrats on being a charter member!!

Count me in!!! I joined as well. I was still deciding weather or not to do it while looking at the website and DH came over and clicked on the join button and said "just do it"...LOL. I was past the point of no return by that time. :goodvibes

At first I said no, I'm not going to pay $75 to join, but the more I thought about it, the more it interested me. I am not an AP holder because I only go to Disney every 1 1/2 to 2 years. I can't afford DVC or I would definately buy into that. I just like the idea of belonging to something Disney that I am officially a member of. I bought the T-shirt yesterday that would have the launch date information on the back. That information would only be on the shirt if you purchased it yesterday. I also used my Disney Movie rewards to get the D23 necklace with a Swarovski crystal in it and the collectors, limited edition pin. I hope that maybe some day there will be some benefits at the parks for D23 members. If not, that's ok with me. I'm just happy to be a charter member.

I think the members of the podcast were right. There is nothing that could live up to the hype of the promotion. I think the idea may be neat, bu I dont see this as anything amazing...Just another way for Disney to sell us some more stuff.

As I posted in another thread I would love to join but that massive border that seperates Canada and the USA will not allow it. Unfortunately, Canadians would have to remortgage their homes in order to become members due to increasing exchange rates, a $60.00 shipping charge (:confused3 ), duty on everything....:sad1:

I hope our DS carries the magazine at least, it looks beautiful.

I don't know that I'm one of the hardcore fans either, but I'm interested. I've always loved Disney, but I don't have the memory for all the little things that some seem to have. I love hearing all those little stories like the basketball court in the Matterhorn and such. I really want to join to be able to purchase that Dopey t-shirt. He's my favorite and I just don't find much with him on t-shirts, especially by himself. I do wish one of the perks was some sort of park discount since we'll be going to Florida this fall and the next. The magazines alone would be $64.00 plus shipping, so I guess I'll check one out at the Disney Store and if I like it, then I'll join. It is my birthday next week.

Oh I'm so mad at myself!!!! I really wanted the shirt with the date on it but I didn't get it! If I had known I could only get it yesterday, I definitely would have! CRAP!

Well, i'm a sucker for the mouse, so I joined yesterday as well! Got the launch day t-shirt too (I wanted the pin, but it wasn't on the website until later in the day) I told DH that my birthday was taken care of even thought it's not until July

Gah! That must have been the error message I kept getting every time I tried to add a shirt to the shopping cart. Today I had no problems adding the shirt (though not in my size, so I'm not buying it...heh), but see nothing about the date being on it now. :(
