I know, me too! I could live without a few others but I enjoyed Liberty.

I'm actually pretty sick of Meg and the way they are writing her right now. Same with Lily and that stupid marrying Daimen (sp?) right after Holden's death. I still haven't warmed up to this actress.

I'm starting to think Vienna isn't coming back. I sure hope I'm wrong.

Hagner leaving daytime for primetime

Meredith Hagner will leave As the World Turns next year. The actress is reportedly set to explore options outside of daytime television. The actress, who was nominated for a Daytime Emmy earlier this year, joined the show 18 months ago.


While As the World Turns welcomes several veteran performers back to the canvas and makes room for some new faces, the long-running CBS soap will also have to prepare for the send-off of an Emmy-nominated performer. Meredith Hagner (Liberty Ciccone) will exit As the World Turns early next year, soapcentral.com has learned.


A relative newcomer to the fictional town of Oakdale, the 22-year-old actress debuted in As the World Turns in April 2008. It marked her first professional acting gig. In hinting last month that Hagner might be leaving As the World Turns, TVGuide Canada indicated that the actress was being courted for several unnamed opportunities in primetime. Since then, soapcentral.com has learned that Hagner filmed a pilot for a series called Lights Out. The FX cable network recently greenlighted the show, ordering up 13 episodes that are slated to air in late 2010.


Earlier this year, Hagner received a nomination for Outstanding Younger Actress at the Daytime Emmys.


A spokesperson for As the World Turns would not confirm Hagner's departure. It is unclear at this time of the show will recast the role of Liberty or write out the character.

CBS CANCELS "AS THE WORLD TURNS"





Breaking: CBS cancels 'As the World Turns'

The ailing soap industry took another hit this morning with the announcement that CBS has canceled As the World Turns. The show will end its 54-year run in September.

The move, which comes just three months after CBS bid adieu to Guiding Light, will leave just six soaps on the air. The number could soon shrink to five if ABC axes One Life to Live, as has been rumored.

“We are disappointed and saddened by the news that the show is not being renewed,” said ATWT exec producer Chris Goutman in a statement. ”It will certainly be a loss for all of us, and for the show’s loyal audience.”

Producers are shopping the show around to other outlets, but don’t hold your breath. A similar effort was mounted for GL, and we saw how well that worked out.

ATWT’s demise wasn’t unexpected, but it still stings. As you probably know, I got my start covering soaps. In fact, my first college internship was at ATWT. To watch the once-mighty industry wither away like this is beyond depressing.

I had heard about other shows being canceled but I never thought it would happen to one of my shows.

I am soooooo bummed. I have been watching this and GL for 30 years. Why are only my soaps getting the axe??? why not others? Like The Bold and the Beautiful?? I am in shock that CBS is doing it again already. Must have helped a lot w/ their budget when thay got rid of GL.

This just makes me sad. I really miss GL, and I love ATWT. B&B is so silly that I took it off the DVR and even unsubscribed from the thread here. I also took Y&R off the DVR, but still read the spoilers and keep up through the dis thread.

Do you all think they will do like GL, and bring in the older characters? I want to see lots of Nancy, Lisa (she sounds funny????), Kim and Bob, Emma, Lucinda, Susan, can I have John Dixon back please!!!!, Lilah would be good, more of Dr. Ben, Andy and Denise with a not so little Hope, we know James can't be dead so bring him on, the "real" Lily, Sierra, Seth, Iva, Will and Gwen, can JJ come home from school please, .......who else!

I am so going to miss Jack, Carly, Katie, Margo, Tom, and my Henry!
