Official American Idol Season 7: Top 10 to ??

What are the chances that a 17-year old American kid is familiar with John Farnham? And I don't think that song was that prevalent in the U.S..

(BTW, John Farnham is (or was) popular in Australia, and did sing ever so briefly with the "Little River Band.")

If he grew up doing singing competitions and things like star search he may have learned a LOT of cheese-ball songs.

Would someone please explain to me why Kristy Lee Cook is STILL there?

Seriously. She's not that good -- she's certainly no Carrie Underwood.

Because she sang the biggest, most pandering song possible and Americans are suckers?

;)

But that's just a guess. :lmao:

David A's parents better be extra-careful. California has the Jackie Coogan Law for a reason...
Coogan's mother (& I think step-father?) spent all the money Coogan earned while he was a child star. When he became of age, there was NOTHING left for him and he was the one who went out and earned it! Most people will remember Jackie Coogan as The Addams Family TV show's "Uncle Fester", but Coogan was a HUGE star in early movies, starred with Charlie Chaplin in "The Kid".
I remember Ron Howard saying something along the lines of how his family did not depend on the money he earned as a child star and that decision made a difference. The families that depend on minor children to be the family breadwinner seem to be the ones who have 'issues' more often than not.

agnes!

*cough*macaulayculkin*cough*

Indeed. On *so* many levels.
But I think even The Culkins left much of MacCaulay's money alone. He had his money & was a millionaire when he was a teenager.

agnes!

Seriously. She's not that good -- she's certainly no Carrie Underwood.

She's one of their plants, a former record dealer with an array of PR people on her side. She even stinks to Country music lovers.... :scared:

I'm a 30-something and I've never heard the song.:confused3

Okay... I'm 50 something and worked in radio for 27 years and I NEVER HEARD OF THAT SONG...

the only one played on the show this entire year?????

Bad choice, Daddy A....

LL Cool J

Ladies

James

James Todd Smith

Probably the most famous, most popular and best selling rapper out there. He made rap mainstream. He was and still is very very good. He wasnt my favorite rapper but he was top 5. His rap Ballad "i need Love" was one of the best rap songs ever. I remember when he was on cause I was glued to the TV waiting to see him. He was very upfront with the performers which I liked.

I didn't see him as a guest judge. Must've been on one of the many seasons I didn't watch.

I'll be in the minority here and say I wish it was Jason Castro who went home. At least we have seen some life in Chekezie. When Jason Castro sings, I feel sleepy all of a sudden, same with Ramielle.

Oh, I knew KLC would be safe because if you sing a song about loving America, you're not going to get voted off, not matter what

Sleepy for Ramiele? I couldn't sleep with her screeching out and butchering a wonderful Heart song this week. EEEK! She needs to get the boot! I don't like country music that much...and I'm really going to hate it when she attempts to sing next week.

I like Jason. But he's very "coffee house" so I don't know if he fits in that well with the show.

A few thousand posts ago ;) was my critique of the top 10.

Top Two (i.e. songs I will download): David C and Michael
Good: Syesha, Carly, Brooke
Just Ok: David A
Might be in danger: Kristy - she picked the right song, did ok, but Simon said it was good so maybe people will think she is safe?? It was so much better than her other performances though so that will help her
Possible Bottom 3:
Ramielle: Not as good as Carly's version in Hollywood and no where near as good as the original
Jason: Not a good song to choose
Chikezie: Did ok on a very old sounding arrangement

So, I had 2 of the 3 so no surprise that Chikezie went home. He had a nice little ride by making it to the top 10. But, if history is any indicator, a super performance will only give you an extra week or two. Then, we forget you. (do you hear that KLC?)

I felt so bad for Jason last night, I think he realized that maybe he does want to stay around for awhile. He looked genuinely upset. Even though he had a big following up until this point, he needs to step it up or some of the lesser girls will get to stay.

Kristy Lee - If there's any justice in the world, she will leave during country week. But, alas, I will not get my hopes up.

David Cook - He amazes me more each week. I didn't think I had it in me to love him even more! I think Randy's referring to him as being "original" does not mean he has rewritten every song. It means, he sings these songs in a way that they are as relevant today as when they first came out. And, since his killer songs have been ones from when I was in my prime, I love that he makes me feel young again. It is brave to take the huge risk of singing a MJ song in a version that most people have never heard. Even if he sings it note for note on a cover of an original, he "cooks" it up, and does make it his own. That glory note(s) toward the end was a wow moment for those who were kind of lukewarm about him.

And, just to make some of you jealous, my sister lives in Kansas City. She and I will be seeing him there if the AI tour makes a stop.

Odds and Ends: Robin - great picture of you and your sister Melinda.:)
She looks so much younger than on the show.

Off-topic: Skip if not interested!
Dan - touching stories about your son and your family. Just keep reassuring your son that you love him and it's ok for him to be feeling the things he is. You have helped him more than you know by showing your emotion.

In fact, I have read back on all of the pages on this thread and the prior one and just wanted to thank everyone who has shared about your loved ones. (whether they are still here physically or not) I think it does help us all to be connected in a human way.

Back on topic There is a definite ebb and flow on this forum. Skip over the 12am-6am if it's not your cup of tea, but post like crazy during the day and turn it around if you so choose. I love reading about everyone's take on the show. This is only my 3rd post on this new thread, but I'm not letting anything stop me from being able to voice my opinion of my Idol boyfriend.

I didn't watch Idol until the 3rd season, but I must say that I was very impressed by Kimberly Locke last night.

Who's gonna take bets that LilIrish will peak at next week's show, even if she has to use the FF button on her remote? I am not a country fan by any means but I think Dolly has it in her to see the talents of the contestants and will give them great advice.

Ya know, I'm not awake when all of the extra chatter is going on, but it really just takes me seconds to scroll through the page to see if there is any Idol talk, and if I have time I read the other stuff. It is interesting to learn stuff about DIS posters and it looks like people are developing friendships, which is nice so I don't mind it. I know that I would never open one of those clique threads so this is a nice way to get to know other posters through a common interest. I guess to each his own, but it really doesn't bother me.

Thanks, Coliebird! It's nice to see that at least someone doesn't consider "idle" chatter to be drivel. (Especially since some of the chats have been about deeper stuff...like loved ones passing and such.)

Your post made me smile.

I would never look at those clique threads either. I like chatting in this thread because tons of people have the option to join in and it's really fun.

Geeze that is a bit harsh. Dolly Parton has been incredibly popular for over 3 decades and has had like 25 number one singles some of which were big crossover hits. She has also written some really notable songs (I will always love you). I think anyone would be lucky to have her as a mentor. I'm looking forward to next week.

I don't mind Dolly, as a person. I'm just not into that music. It'll be interesting to see what some of these contestants can do with her songs and Kenny songs. I'm sure it'll be a butcher-fest.

I 100% agree. I was seriously thinking of starting a new thread just for recaps and opinions and not the rest of the chatter. I like to read peoples opinions of the show/singers and reaction to what happened. I don't like having to skim through 50 pages of chatter and inside jokes to get to the few posts that are on topic. I am glad I am not the only one!

If you want to do that...I'd say go ahead. I don't think that would be a problem. Then those that want to stay here and chit-chat between shows can do so without being told they are annoying and writing drivel (so sad that some people think talking about parents dying is "drivel", by the way.) I'm actually surprised no one started a new thread already rather than complain repeatedly about this one.

Inside jokes? I must've missed those. I'm pretty new around here and I've been able to jump right in with all the conversations.

The dreadheads were/are all genuinely upset too. We are determined to keep Jason in this competition and the whole dreadhead community is geering up for next Tuesday night' voting. :cheer2: :cheer2:

As an avid AI watcher from the beginning - I truly feel that Jason was put in the bottom three by TPTB to shake him up a bit - I'll never believe he had less votes then someone like Kristy.

Mentioning David A. I heard an interview with Paula this morning and the host brought up what Simon said about it was almost like he didn't choose the song himself. Another host asked her what her thoughts were and if she thought his dad told him to pick it. She didn't say yes but laughed and mumbled something. I feel sorry for the kid, his dad takes MSP (monster stage parent) to a whole new level.

"laughed and mumbled something." HAHA! Paula is nuts.

I believe AI has a large country music fan base and like her or not (I tend to be on the not side myself) she is definitely country. There are several AI contestants who have gone on to successful country music careers, Carrie, Kellie P., Josh Gracin, Bucky, Phil, even Kelly C has done a crossover.

She's country, but I don't really think she's "good" country. I'm not a country music fan...but I can still recognize talent in that genre, such as Carrie Underwood. Not my style of music, I don't own her cds, but she's really good. I would think that a lot of country fans don't even like Kristy Lee.

I find it interesting just how many people were not familiar with "Fragile" and "The Voice" -- I admit I had COMPLETELY forgotten about the latter until I heard it on AI. But I had heard it. Chikezie's song was the one that I barely remember.

About next week. Kenny Rogers did a Bob Seger cover in 1983. I  that song. And to hear DC sing that? :faint: Wonder if DC could get away with that or if it must be something Kenny actually WROTE. I'm glad at least they aren't making everyone sing Dolly songs because that would not exactly be easy for the guys to pull off! I need to look up more of Dolly's stuff. I remember "Islands in the Stream", "I will always love you", "He'll come again", "Potential New Boyfriend", and "9 to 5" off the top of my head and that is IT.

We have to wait 5 more days!

Anyone else get a hold of the full "Billie Jean" yet? Just how GREAT is that??? I listened to the CC version too and DC has it ALL over him. I always thought CC had one of the better voices out there -- so that is saying a LOT.

LOL, she's 30yo and in person she looks MUCH younger. Again, I am almost twice her age so I'll settle for being her MOTHER!! :rotfl2:

I think someone said they have to sing songs written by Dolly or Kenny.

I downloaded a few of DC's songs. The studio version of Billie Jean is awesome! I wish they'd do a studio recording of Hello.

So does anyone else think that the "bottom three" aren't always the actual bottom three? I feel like the producers like to mess around with the bottom three for a dramatic effect.

A friend of mine said they've noticed that instead of saying "you're in the bottom three" to some of the contestants, Ryan will say "go take a seat on the stools." Or something like that. Their theory is that Ryan words it that way so he's not really lying about the person being in the bottom three or not. And that is the way the producers get away with it.

Anyone think that could be possible? I don't know...it seems pretty out there. It's an interesting theory though. I know that on the finale, they say that the votes were counted by an outside party and whatnot...but they never say anything about that during the regular shows. Hmm....

Also, apparently a lot of people think that the show uses more stage effects and cooler camera angles for the people they like. That way their performances seem better and hopefully more people will vote for them.

Just some interesting theories.
