He didnt he always did his little grab move in that walking across the Piano. But If DC would have moon walked you could have ended this season for me too. I would have loved that.

I would have preferred for DC to do the grab. Or I'm sure I could say something that would get me my first points, so I'll abstain.

I think MJ will be cute to see, another board I'm on said he had a crush on Dolly when he was younger and his first concert was the Islands in the Stream tour.

Here's the rundown of next week's show.

Dolly will mentor and sing Jesus and Gravity.
Clark Brothers will also have a special performance
Contestants will sing songs Dolly Parton has wrote and I believe Kenny Rogers as well.
They are also doing a where are they now special, featuring Phil Stacey, Bo Bice, and Bucky Covington.

Got it? Good.
Got it. Thanks Mandy!!

That is very cute. I remember that tour. My parents loved Dolly and Kenny. I remember playing my LP single of Islands In the Stream and dancing in the living room with dad.

Actually, IMO *nobody* can do a Dolly Parton song like Dolly herself, including the AI-revered Whitney Houston *gag*. (DONTDOWHITENYHOUSTONYOURENOTWHITNEY, isn't that the AI party line that the Three Stooges always parrot?) THAT'S why I feel sorry for all the AIs next week - Dolly's stuff might seem simple or easy, but it's not.

I think Whitney Houston is no Dolly Parton.

agnes!

Actually, I think you're right AND the judges are right...and there are other songs that you just can't do without being compared to the original...

...UNLESS you pull a David Cook on them and change them up so much that it's tough to make the comparison. That's the real secret to singing well-known songs like some of the "off-limits" ones. There are some songs that, regardless of how well you sing them, you're still going to sound like karaoke because the original is so memorable. Dolly definitely has a few of those, and yeah, Whitney has a couple as well. It should be interesting to see which of the contestants "gets" it, and which try to re-sing originals that they won't be able to pull off.

I 100% agree. I was seriously thinking of starting a new thread just for recaps and opinions and not the rest of the chatter. I like to read peoples opinions of the show/singers and reaction to what happened. I don't like having to skim through 50 pages of chatter and inside jokes to get to the few posts that are on topic. I am glad I am not the only one!

I mostly stopped posting on this thread (these threads) because of it. Just got to be too difficult to keep up with.

:thumbsup2 LOVE the Clark Brothers. Would like to see a "where are they now" kinda special show, and am greatly looking forward to seeing the song selections for the reasons I spelled out above!

There are going to be several more where are they now type deals to catch up with previous contestants.

I will keep posting spoliers as I find them.

Haha! Well...at least it was when MJ was normal. If they gave me a MJ doll of what he was like in the 90's...eek! If they had made an MJ doll from this video...that would have been terrifying!

Today's MJ doll would come with a surgeon's mask and a removable nose. :lmao: I wonder if David A. will be the next MJ? It seems the kids with the tough stage parents are the ones who go nuts. Lindsey Lohan, Britney Spears, Dana Plato, Macauley Culkin. David A. definitely seems like a non-normal kid. Every kid deserves a normal childhood.

Audioslave did that Billie Jean version a couple years ago and I believe that was mentioned on AI? that it was the Audioslave version or at least the Chris Cornell version.
Here is his

shhh but I think David did it better.(yikes did I just say that)

David A's parents better be extra-careful. California has the Jackie Coogan Law for a reason...
Coogan's mother (& I think step-father?) spent all the money Coogan earned while he was a child star. When he became of age, there was NOTHING left for him and he was the one who went out and earned it! Most people will remember Jackie Coogan as The Addams Family TV show's "Uncle Fester", but Coogan was a HUGE star in early movies, starred with Charlie Chaplin in "The Kid".
I remember Ron Howard saying something along the lines of how his family did not depend on the money he earned as a child star and that decision made a difference. The families that depend on minor children to be the family breadwinner seem to be the ones who have 'issues' more often than not.

I was thinking the same thing. The poor boy looks so controlled and on auto control.. he doesn't seem to be like a normal kid. I guess that happens when your parents see you as a purse string... :sad2:

He kept asking last night "why didn't anyone think he chose the song?" Did anyone ELSE get asked that question? Why? Because he doesn't seem to be IN CONTROL. It's sad actually.

Mentioning David A. I heard an interview with Paula this morning and the host brought up what Simon said about it was almost like he didn't choose the song himself. Another host asked her what her thoughts were and if she thought his dad told him to pick it. She didn't say yes but laughed and mumbled something. I feel sorry for the kid, his dad takes MSP (monster stage parent) to a whole new level.

Maybe because he's 17 years old and that song was for someone who's 70? His songs seem more suited to a pageant contestant than someone going for a popular music contract. He is wildly talented, but he just doesn't seem like a kid who will appeal to other kids. Let the boy play some Nintendo, hang out at the mall, and go to his prom.

Would someone please explain to me why Kristy Lee Cook is STILL there?

Seriously. She's not that good -- she's certainly no Carrie Underwood.

Thanks for the info Mandy. I'm looking forward to the Where are they now special. I like the 3 contestants mentioned and from reading these boards, I think I am one of the very few who liked Phil Stacey. Looking forward to seeing him.

What are the chances that a 17-year old American kid is familiar with John Farnham? And I don't think that song was that prevalent in the U.S..

(BTW, John Farnham is (or was) popular in Australia, and did sing ever so briefly with the "Little River Band.")

Phil has a new single that has just broken into the Top 40 on the Country charts. He will make his debut on the Grand Ole Opry this Saturday night (I'm going to be there!!). His CD will be released on April 29.

Yes I am a Phil fan (or a Philnatic, as we like to call ourselves)!

I'm a 30-something and I've never heard the song.:confused3

I don't think Chikeze deserved to go home this week... Yeah, his song was boring, but it was not BAD like Ramielle. And he has been more interesting to watch the past couple of weeks. Syesha is consistanly dull. I don't care that she has a good voice and sings her songs well. She is so boring that I find myself not really listening.
Kristy Lee should have gone weeks ago...

I can't wait for the Clark Brothers!! We LOVED them on that next great band show! Does anyone know if they are working on a CD at all?

I believe AI has a large country music fan base and like her or not (I tend to be on the not side myself) she is definitely country. There are several AI contestants who have gone on to successful country music careers, Carrie, Kellie P., Josh Gracin, Bucky, Phil, even Kelly C has done a crossover.
