I bit indulgent is right...if she hadn't held that note for as long, I might've liked it better. I still liked it, but...yeah...indulgent is a perfect adjective for it.

I agree with Simon... Syesha started out really well, doing the soft and sensitive part of the song. If she had stuck with a "Dolly" style, it would have been lovely. But she tried to overreach and go for the big Whitney style in the last half, and she just didn't have the passion or the pipes to do it well.


She was okay, but didn't connect with the emotion and power as well as she needed to to pull that off.

I think Syesha did a mix of Dolly's version and Whitney's. You could tell she really wanted to belt it out all the way through.

I agree with Simon, she should've stayed with the Dolly version. But, I think people will see this as one of the best of the night.

I agree, she should have just stayed with the pure simple Dolly version. I like that one so much better than Whitney.

My DD just said something funny.

She said if Syesha had done the song before Whitney then if Whitney was on Idol they would say "sorry but you didn't sing it as good as Syesha did"

no one will ever sing the song the way we are used to hearing it.
