Official Amazing Race 25th No Spoilers

I'm glad they moved it to Fridays. There are too many shows on Sunday (The Good Wife, OUAT, Revenge) to keep up with and then you have to deal with Football too!!!! Honestly, I don't know how they know if ratings are good or bad since almost everyone Tivo's or tapes shows and watched them later. Do they still have Nielsen rating families??

I didn't think I'd like the dentists, but I give him props for actually knowing what he was doing and helping the other teams if they asked.

...

I can't stand that those last 3 teams gave up like they did. The guy (who was part of the couple) was flat-out babyish about it.

In next week's previews, it already shows members of teams crying/having breakdowns. It's only the second leg for crying out loud!

I think the dentists' attitudes (and teeth) were off-putting, particularly the man's, but maybe he really is one of those guys who is just super-intelligent and confident in that intelligence, and that may come across as arrogant. I'm not sure if I'm going to root for them or not; it's too early to decide who to like (except for Bethany and her husband, who I hope will do well).

One thing I like so far this season is that the challenges are finally more challenging again! It seems as if in the last two seasons, who won had way more to do with luck than ability of any sort. The taxi drivers in each country had more to do with who won and lost than the players themselves. The fact that 3 teams were so frustrated by the first challenge that they essentially gave up demonstrates to me that they thought the race would be easy, too, and became frustrated when it wasn't.

Also, can anyone explain to me why 1 of the 3 teams didn't just refuse the pact? That would have given them 4 hours to try to find the treasure chest while the others cooled their heels at the mat. At least one team probably would've taken the penalty even without the pact, in the hopes that the other teams wouldn't find their treasure chests in time or would give up and take the penalty later.

Yes, I was hoping the other two teams would have said, no, we are going to keep digging. Does anyone know how long they were digging?

I loved AR in its first season or few. Then I got busier in life and went back to school, & at the same time AR seemed to become less a fun race around the world and more some sort of Survivor replica with all the scheming and alliances. I also didn't like that they started requiring more crazy physical challenges such that I could no longer relate. I'm not about to bungee jump or jump out of a plane... or eat some animal's brains or big bugs. You'll never catch me on the wild roller coasters at 6 Flags, that's one reason I like WDW. But it seemed they added more of that sort of challenge into the show (not necessarily those examples that I just made up.) So I stopped watching.

But I'm giving this season a chance, and DD10 is watching it for the first time. She's rooting for the dentists because they are the closest team to where we live. This wasn't necessarily a plus for me :p but I gave them a chance and so far I like them. There are too many teams in the first legs for me to keep track of, though. I'm always wondering things like was that the dentist or the surfer dude?

So far, we're rooting for, in no particular order
the dentists
the flight attendants
the fire fighters
and the scientists.
Oops, and Bethany, of course.
But it's early enough for any of them to show a mean side and get kicked out of my favorites list. Or to add someone else to the list.

I'm glad there is a DIS thread on this!:flower3:
And we, too, were hoping the RE girls would just stay in the VI. :)

I watched on Friday because we happened to be home, but it really felt weird last night not having Amazing Race to look forward to. I won't miss the football overruns though!

I was glad the girls went. Out of all the teams, they seemed one of the least compelling so since someone had to go, might as well be them. No one else really stood out for me, yet. But I usually don't pick the teams I love/hate until the 3-4 episodes in, so I'll hold out hope.

I must say though, I was not a fan of the dentists teeth. There is a difference between nice teeth and teeth that are so perfect they look fake teeth. They definitely crossed that line by a mile (especially him).
I loved sitting after work on Friday to watch AR, but it felt really strange on Sunday to not be watching!
Glad that Karma came so quickly for the RE girls.
I haven't chosen a team, yet. I need another episode or 2 to decide. I really like the whole 'save', though-and the fact that there IS a limit to its run.

Lisa & Michelle's interview with Our Take from TV Guide.

What happened with the cab fight? Michael was already in the cab, so you couldn't have gotten that cab anyway unless he got out.
Michelle: We actually got to the cab first, but he pushed us away and got into the cab, and then Scott got there. He closed the door on us, so we had to jump into the next cab.

They said they did that because you ripped the marker out of their hands earlier.
Michelle: If you look at it, we got to the board before them. They grabbed the pen and we grabbed the pen out of their hands because we got their first. It is what it is. Everyone wants to win. We don't regret doing that or anything. If I had to throw them out of a cab, I would've done the same thing.
Lisa: It didn't have anything to do with the marker situation. Whoever got in that third cab would've pretty much been screwed, so we knew we had to get that second cab.

Did you really think the sun sets in the East and rises in the West?
Lisa: No! What they didn't show was that I said it correctly. I grew up on the water in Miami. I know the sun rises in the East and sets in the West. That was when we were figuring out the compass was reversed. We were going back and forth, and I said that about the compass. So yeah, they just showed the part where I said the opposite without context.

Maybe we were too hard on them. This is what editing makes us think.

It goes up against Shark Tank, another show we love.

I think its replacement show on Sunday was Madame Secretary. I don't see the network moving that show.

I wonder how much if the ratings tank is due to folks not know it is on Friday now? (Won't explain the entire drop.)

It was only up against Shark Tank for 1 week. This week Shark Tank starts at 9pm and Last Man Standing returns. That'll likely help.

However I am Amazing Raced out. I was ready for a break last time but they brought my Cowboys back and well I had to watch until they were out and then I threw a fit:sad: I will forever watch those 2.

I am now waiting for Master Chef Jr, which doesn't start until Nov. :sad2: So i don't see myself watching this time around.

This is what is called spin.

Yup. I'm going to watch it again, but I think she's misremembering...

Okay, Mike had the pen first. One of the sisters got to the board first, but he had the pen first.

"I thought the penalty was the easiest..."? Really? You don't take the easiest route when the prize is a million dollars.

One of the firefighters (Scott? gray hair?) absolutely was in the taxi before the 'altercation'.

Michelle said:

Being at the board first means nothing. Being somewhere first doesn't mean you can make your own rules.

And, "we just came in here friends, not being mean"? Yeah, I guess underhanded is different from mean :).

Any other questiins before I delete?

Omg so did that girl pee off the side of the boat?? It looked like she didn't even pull her pants down...crazy

Yep. Hey, when you gotta go you gotta go. Did you catch the reaction of the people in the boat that went by them? I thought they were going to capsize, they were laughing so hard.:rotfl:

The captain for the Royal Guard was so mean. Was the guy in the bowler hat suppose to tip his hat so many times? I thought they were not suppose to help, give hints verbal or otherwise.

I know those two girls might have tipped their hats forever. And was it me or was that the stupidest fake pancake flipping shot they would go to everyone In a while.
Do not think I am going to be able to watch much longer with dentist. Think I am becoming like Seinfeld an antidentite.

The week before could not the girls gone back and tried for 4ish hours to find their box on the beach? I mean if they really felt other jumped their cAb

;)

Good question! I haven't seen or read that entire interview that was mentioned above, but that would have been good to ask. You should go in the interviewing biz!

We enjoyed last night. It helps that this is the first time in forever (sorry, Frozen) that DD and I have watched a series together. And it might have been Dora the Explorer last time. This is SO much more fun!

I really loved the pancake and palace guard roadblocks. Fun to watch! I was totally wrong about the firefighters, though. I told DD they are firefighters. A bunch of guys sitting around in the firehouse probably practice their pancake flipping skills for fun. :) I was surprised it gave them trouble. Seems like it was the best choice for most. I would have dropped my pancake 10 times though.

I think once they decide to take the penalty, the challenge is over. Just like for a roadblock, once they decide who is going to do the roadblock, that person has to complete it.

I think he was just in character.

Pretty sure you are correct. If you notice at certain times, team decisions are made officially on camera--roadblocks, yield (or whatever it is called when you force another team to do a detour), and penalties. On penalties, they cannot receive their next clue without completing the task. By taking the penalty they are excused from the task so they can get their clue.

my favorite part of the episode was the girl (name?) peeing over the side of the boat. :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

If it was me, I would have jumped into the water first though. :rotfl:

I'm rooting for Bethany and her husband. I just like them. :thumbsup2::yes::

I would have "fallen" and taken my time getting back up and would have never said a word :rotfl:
