Official all things Princess Half Weekend 2015 thread! DOoneY and offical mErcH on DisneyParksBLOg

Subscribing! Hi all, excited to be a part! My DBFF and I are planning the half for the first time ever, and may have a few other coworkers coming along. I've done some 5k's/obstacle 5k's before but never a distance this far. Was thinking maybe the 10k is more my cup of tea but REALLY want to knock the half of my list. I look forward to any and all advice/support! I'll be leaving for a trip to AKL shortly and also have a trip on the Magic planned in Dec, where I'm hoping to finally do the Castaway Cay run. As RunDisney is all new to me, I'll probably be jumping in with lots of ??'s :)

Jumping In!! Have to go back and read everything but my sister and I decided to do the 10k in February. Really hoping she is going to stick with me and do this, otherwise going to go it alone

Me too! My sister is in NY and I'm in Texas so I am hoping she too will stick with it. It's kinda hard to keep each other accountable from so far away. Anyway I'm in!

I've been reading through this thread and I have suddenly become *very* excited for this weekend!

I'm registered for Dopey (did it while talking about the "new" IFRS accounting standards in Canada and may or may not have verbally approved a change...guess we'll see next month!) and have the rest of the actual/estimated registration dates on my work calendar (and suspiciously also have meetings from 11:45 am to 1:00 pm on each of those days...funny how that happens :cool1:).

There were many posts I wanted to comment on, but I just *can't* comment before I'm caught up on the thread. So I've managed to forget 98% of what I had to say.

The 2% I remember:
-It doesn't matter how long it takes you to cross the finish line, what's important is that you cross the finish line
-I'm still nervous and questioning my ability to run a race of ANY distance. Last weekend I ran a 15k and at the start of the 15k I had no clue how I was going to finish. Forget that I've run that distance or more over 20 times...that morning I didn't think I could finish a mile, let alone 9.3 of them.
-The 2012 PHM was my first Disney race and I also ran the DL half that year. I didn't run any Disney races in 2013, this year I did Dopey (and that's it), and next year I'm planning on all of the Disney races.
-I admire people who can do a proper run/walk interval. I take walking breaks when I feel like I need them. Sometimes I can run for 3 or 4 miles, but sometimes I struggle to make it half a mile between breaks. However, I refuse to walk through a mile marker or if there's a timing mat on the course.

My friend who got me hook to these races booked our room last night at the Beach Club :cool1: She has a DVC and the BC is her home!!!:dance3:
Never stayed at a deluxe before, never even visit the BC so double excitement for me!! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Going it alone really isn't bad at all. There's so much going on--
I was at the Expo all three days, because every day I decided I needed to buy one more thing, some necessary, some not lol -- that the time really goes fast. I was completely alone last year but never really felt alone, with so many other people doing the same thing. And you get to meet lots of people!

I'm going for the GSC in 2015 and my DD and DGD are going with me, although my DD isn't running, except with DGD in the kid's races. I'm actually a little concerned as to how it will work out, because I was wiped out the day of the half last year(I did all three.) If you're alone, you can do whatever you want without worrying about other people, which is very nice!

So sorry for your loss. I started the 1/2 this year with a girl who had lost her DH. She said running was therapy for her. It's really helped her heal. Brian will definitely be there with you!

Being on the treadmill is fine. I trained about 80% for the Glass Slipper on the treadmill. NE weather is not kind to us.
Is your 10K timed? If it is you should be able to use that time to submit for a better corral. There is not a lot of clarity on wether the race needs to be USATF certified though.

I run/walk. Mostly walked the 5K because DD was with me. I did 1/1 intervals with the 10K and the 1/2. I didn't stop for characters because I was worried about time, the family was waiting for me, and the lines were ridiculously long.

My plan for the 2015 race is to keep running now, do my summer runs with the boys on Mondays and Thursdays and have my long runs on Saturdays.
I also plan to find at least one 10K to run so I can submit a time. I was in corral M out of P last year without a submitted time, but I may not be that lucky next time.

Thanks so much for the help! I actually chose a different race and it's less competitive. It's the Ocean Road 10K in R.I. on October 2nd! :goodvibes

Sounds like a GREAT plan .... Thank you so much! :-)

Aw, yay! No prob! :cool1:

I have a question for all of you!!!

This will be my very first run Disney next feb. I plan on doing the 5k, but not sure about the 10k!

I just started this whole thing a month ago!!! As of now I can WALK the 5k :cool1: very happy with that!

I hope I can walk the 10k, but hopefully even run!!! :scared1:

What will happen to me if I cannot finish the 10k???? :confused3:confused3

What was the registration fee for the glass slipper challenge last year? And what time of day was the 10k? I did the half in 2013, and they didn't have the glass slipper challenge then. I'm thinking of doing the half again in 2015, but wondering what the cost would be to do the challenge.

I have committed to running the 5K and 10K with a friend. I am also running the Marathon weekend 5K with my husband, which will be my first 5K. I am extremely nervous about these races, but have already started training and am excited about accomplishing my goals, and hopefully losing the baby weight in the process!

Looking forward to reading the thread and getting lots of good tips from the seasoned pros! :cheer2:

OP here. I'm thinking the GSC will be around $320. I've been stalking the runDisney website daily, looking for pricing information. Once I see it, I will post it on the first page. Saturday, 2/21 at 5:30 am is the 10K.

I'm two weeks into C25K too!!! :cool1:

Wooo...GSC 2015 here we come!

I am doing my last C25K week 1 run/walk today. I think I am going to repeat week 1 because I can't do all the run portions yet. I'm a horrible runner. I think it should be reserved for when your life is in danger...and then I hope I have a gun or ax for the zombies! :rotfl: But I set a goal and I WILL accomplish it!

GSC this year is $280!

10k is at 5:30AM?! I think? lol

I like to say - I'm running and training for this race so I can be set when the world ends :rotfl2:

$350!? :scared: Oh my! I heard somewhere that someone switched their entry to 2015 and it was $280!

I just registered to my very first 5k in my town!!! :cool1::cool1:

Now it's time to get busy and serious about it ::yes::::yes::

Hope to be able to do a 10k in fall!!!! :scratchin

A question for those of you that did the GSC this year:

How did you train for it? For half marathons, I have always used John Bingham's Marathoning for Mortals walk/run training plan. I have seen Jeff Galloway's plans on the rD site, but I never can make sense of his training plans. That whole magic mile concept completely baffles me! :confused3 Also, I seem to have no lung capacity, so I never do more than a 2-3 minute run my races.

I'm not completely sure that I will do the GSC, just looking for some suggestions from those who did it...especially if you are more of a walker than a runner.
