is on the way!! We just got back from one of the best vacations ever, we ate well - and I have the pictures to prove it!! Thanks to the info on these boards, I was able to make a plan and hit every place that we wanted to. A couple of general observations while I get the photos ready...........
  • Loved everything about the HRH - Deluxe Queen Room, Pool, Slide, Music, Grounds, Close Proximity to the Parks, the list goes on and on...
    • Front of the line - By itself, worth every penny of the cost of the hotel. Awesome!
      • MH Transportation - wonderful
        • Sea World - Great fun, kids loved it!
          • IOA - Big thumbs up!! (Ripsaw falls was the family favorite, but the Spidey b-fast stole the show!)
            • Universal - Kids loved Shrek, MIB, Jimmy Neutron and hated Jaws and Twister

More to come..................

I'm glad you had a great time. Gotta love HRH!!! Food reviews are my favorite. We'll be "not so" patiently waiting. :teeth:

OOOOooooHHHHhhhhhh - Yummy food pics!!!

Glad you had a great vacation - can't wait to hear all about it!!!!popcorn::

Ok, here we go. Let me preface this by saying that some of these pictures will look familiar because of those who posted food pictures before me (if it looked that good - I had to order it!!) :thumbsup2

May 1st:

This trip was booked in January and kept a complete surprise from DS4 and DS7 until we arrived at the Detroit airport. Neither had ever been on a plane before, either!! The trip down on AirTran was great - non stop and just long enough for the boys to finish "Cars" on the DVD player. We used MH transportation, and they were right there waiting to wisk us to the grocery stop where we picked up the essentials for the week - breakfast items, cooler, snacks, beer, and juice boxes.

We arrived at the HRH around 6:30 pm. Check in was a breeze, and soon we were taken up to room 5140 - a wonderfully large Deluxe Queen room. I must say that I would have a hard time booking a regular again after spending a week with all of the space of a deluxe! (for those who have cruised, it would be like going back to a window view after having a balcony)

After checking out the pool, we walked over to City Walk and our first dining location:

Margaritaville.jpg

We are huge Buffett fans, and the boys loved the atmosphere - especially the stilt walkers passing out balloon creations:

Next thing you know, we had a couple of pirates sitting at our table!!pirate:

And Parrot Head #2:

The place was packed - we didn't get seated until around 9:30 - but everyone had a great time watching the volcano erupt. As for dinner, DW tried the shrimp & crab dip:

And, of course, I HAD to get the Volcano Nachos!!

VolcanoNachos.jpg

Let me say that if you like Nachos, you HAVE to make a stop for these!! Way to much for one to finish, but they were so good! The kids had hot dog meals which were pretty standard. With drinks, the total was around $55.

By the time we were done, it had been a long day and we returned to the hotel to pass out and get ready for our first full day in Florida. (incidently, the boys didn't believe that they were actually in Florida until about the third day!)

Day 2 - IOA and some very special breakfast buddies!!

To be continued........................

Oh this report is right up my alley! I LOVE looking at food pics from Universal. Those nachos are so impressive looking, we get them too. I have never had that shrimp and crab dip, looks enormous too! The kids look like they were having a blast.

On to the next day! Thanks for doing this :)

Verra cool photos!!! You are making me so ready to go!!! I cant wait for more photos!

Golly, now you've got me drooling all over myself and the keyboard :lmao:

I'm looking forward to hearing about the rest of your week.popcorn::

You mean to tell me you ordered the nachos for yourself?? :scared1:

silly.....they aren't meant for just 1 person :rolleyes1

hey don't knock ordering nachos for yourself till you try it.:)..if there is one thing i am addicted to it would be nachos! And those loook impressive! love the pics..keep em comin'! :)

MA pigletfan....i have seen these nachos many times in person, as our party of 13 usually orders TWO of them each time we go to Margaritaville and sometimes we can't finish them...and this family  nachos! .....so, i know they are TOO much for 1 person..... :faint:

i was just being silly..i am sure they are HUGE..maybe they should call them Macho Nacho's then...they do look scrumptious!

Sorry about the delay - busy weekend!

First of all, to address the nacho topic - to each their own. I knew that they were probably too much for one person (even if I hadn't eaten in about 10 hours) but the idea was to try a couple of different things. To set the stage for future pictures, nothing about eating on this trip involved saving money, reducing costs, etc. Instead, it was ALL about trying as many of the great places that I had read about from many of you in preparation for this trip - and I wasn't disappointed!! Yes, we could have reduced costs by sharing, eating at other places, etc. but what fun is that when you are on vacation?!?

Since having children, one of our favorite things to do is to enjoy a good meal out - and I'm happy to say that we accomplished that several times on this particular trip!! :woohoo:

Now, on with the trip!!!

I had said in error that IOA was up next, when in fact it was Sea World! We were awake by 7:30, and proceeded to get ready and eat breakfast in the room. Since the shuttle wasn't going to be picking us up until 9:55, we had some time to wander around the hotel which felt like it was empty.

This is a picture of the 240 foot waterslide at the HRH which was great fun. There was never a line and the boys loved it (DS7 claimes that he "broke the record" by going down it 40 times in a row)

On the shuttle ride to the park, the bus driver provided a nice verbal tour of the area and offered discount cards for various resteraunts which were free (drink coupons, free appetizers, etc)

At Sea World, we enjoyed a few of the attractions as we made our way back to Sharks Underwater grill. The park wasn't busy at all, and we decided to have lunch at 11:00 as we wanted to catch the early "Believe" show. Sharks was a wonderful lunch experience - great food with a view!!

With full stomachs, it was time to make a brief visit to the kids area and the Happy Shamu roller coaster before taking in Believe.

As you can see, we had great seats in the "soak zone" and everyone got splashed by these magnificant creatures. We all really enjoyed this show! :)

We spent the rest of the day taking in all of the other attractions, as well as the dophin show - Horizons. This was also a great show, and once again we were splashed in the soak zone. We had a very full day here, as the shuttle didn't pick us back up until 7:30 but the kids did amazingly well considering how much we walked. All in all, we had a blast - great weather (88), low crowds, and great food!!

Back to the HRH:

It was late by the time that we got back, so we scrapped the idea of going to Pat O'Brians and instead decided to raid the "Kitchen":

Shrimp & Scallop Pasta

Meatloaf (one of their menu "favorites")

As an extra bonus, the kids got to meet the first characters of the trip - Woody Woodpecker, and................

After dinner, everyone was whipped so we returned to our very comfortable room to rest up for a very special surprise breakfast date..............! :woohoo:
