Office Air Quality... HELP

Hi all. Does anyone out there in DIS land know anything about air quality? My building has had mold for... a long time. My particular office has an air filter that runs constantly, and I keep my window open. I keep finding black 'dust' on my desk.... even though I clean it regularly. What would this black dust be???

Outdoor dust/dirt coming in through the open window? Not being snarky - really that's what I think if you're leaving your window open. Especially if you are anywhere near a road.

I don't know what the air filter running has to do with it though - air filters do "run" continuously (although they don't run) because they are just a filter that goes inside a HVAC system or a meachine.
