What brand of shoes do you recommend that are light weight and comfy for my 10year old. He likes his beat arounds but I know his feet will suffer with all the walking we will be doing during vac. He's not used to being on his feet ALL day. thanks

We are all New Balance people in this house. Very comfy, most styles lightweight, and easy to break in. But, bring the old comfy ones from home, just in case!

I vote New Balance too! I had all kinds of foot problems, basically pain whenever I started walking in the morning (it would go away as the day went on). I thought I had real problems. I used Skechers, Vans, and other brands. Someone told me to try New Balance and I had no pain in a matter of 2 days. I haven't gone back!

(I know, I sound like an infomercial, but it's true). Personally I don't see how Tevas can be comfortable for long walks. And Crocs, well, I just saw what these were last night at Dicks Sporting Goods. Well, they are just too darn ugly! pirate:

Edit to just add that the crocs don't look ugly on the girls in the picture above, but I can't see a boy wearing them.

Bring a couple of pair of comfortable well broken in shoes. We usually wear one pair in the AM and switch to a different pair for the evening activities. We have not had any blister problems doing this since we dont get any hot spots. I do always carry precut pieces of moleskin just incase.

My kids usually wear a pair of sport shoes, but also bring slip on sandles and this year my DS-11 also has a pair of navy crocs that he thinks are very comfortable and lots of his friends are wearing them also.

The main thing is don't bring 'new' shoes or you will all have sore feet.

Personally I wear birkenstocks all the time, I have 2 pair I wear. My foot doc says they have great support and I have been wearing them year round for over 10 years now and many park visits. They do make them for kids too.

Actually, that is my ds wearing the navy crocs in my sig picture. Crocs are popular at the pool we go to nearly every day in the summer. They were uncommon a few months ago, but many boys, boy teens, and men wear them at the local pool. I admit that it took a while for us to get over the ugly factor, but once we tried Crocs there was no turning back! They are downright comfy. :thumbsup2

We didn't discover Crocs until recently. Last summer we all wore Tevas for 10+ days at WDW and none of us had a single blister. I did bring 2 different pair of Tevas and alternated which ones I wore each day. This year, we are alternating between Crocs and Tevas.

OP, whatever type of shoe(s) you decide to bring, I recommend bringing at least 2 different pairs incase a blister happens. That way, your ds will have a choice of shoe that may not rub the blister as much as the other shoe does. If you ride water rides with socks, keep a pair of dry socks on hand to change into and that should help prevent a blister.

My 10 yo son alternates between wearing Merrel Mesa Ventilators (a hiking type shoe, built for support and comfort), and his Tevas, while at WDW. The Tevas are wonderful sandals for wearing on days when feet might get wet (due to rain, or going on water rides, or while at the water parks/pools). And the Merrels are shoes that he wears almost daily at home and for school--he likes the Mesa Ventilators so much that we ordered a new pair in the next size for school again this year.

Both can be ordered online via REI. You can also find them at most sporting goods type chain stores (Cabelas, Gander Mtn., Bass Pro Shops, etc.) if you want your son to try them on before purchase. Actually, any of the above retailers carry a wide range of very good quality shoes & sandals, designed specifically for support and comfort when hiking--which tend to work well for all the walking involved at WDW too.

For the adults in our family, we all also wear Tevas at WDW (DH included)... along with a comfortable pair of athletic or hiking shoes.

Keen makes great comfy sport sandals. Kind of pricy but worth it. I alternate them with Crocs.
