hey guys, kate is in french class and this year the teacher apparently is only speaking french (parisian french no less :) ) Anyhow, kate has absolutely no clue what the heck this woman is saying... I figured I could make labels for things around the house and maybe that would help. Any idea on where I can find a list on line of things? (it's going to be a long year if I have to listen to how she has no idea what the woman is saying. :) (the funny part is that I know exactly how she feels since my parents moved to canada when I was in 5th grade.... thankfully they didn't stick me in the french emersion program, but french class itself was a total nightmare for at least 3 months!) maggie

I don't know where there's a list, but you could do it yourself via BabelFish: http://world.altavista.com/tr

This is first year French? I know teachers often do this for the first few days, but often switch back just about the time the most tolerant are ready to bolt! Can she find someone who had this teacher last year to find out if it's going to continue? If it is, you may want to look for a program to get her to help.

When I homeschooled DS in junior high he wanted to start German. I got a really neat program that came with a book of pictures & audio tapes that talked about the pix. There were workbooks etc as well, but it seemed to be helpful. The pix started simple & became more complex. It seemed to make sense for him. The neat thing about it was that they used the same book of pix for French, German & Spanish. I'll have to look up the name of it, so let me know if you need something like that.

Oh - and I forgot. DD took Spanish I last year and they sent home a flyer about a CD they could get that would help - but not until Back to School Night. Maybe you could call the school to see if they have anything the recommend?

thanks, I already like this french teacher better than last year. (she's new to the school this year of course). last year class was a joke, they spent way to much time discussing "culture" in english! no wonder kate has no clue what this woman is talking about. I would be perfectly happy if she spent the entire year speaking in french. (I'm such a mean mom :rotfl2: ). maggie

ps: I did send the teacher an email enquiring if there was anything I could do at home to help kate, I really wish they had a jumpstart french computer program, we have the spanish one and kate loves it

She's taking French II and has no idea?? That doesn't say much for last year's class, does it? That's really sad.

My DD really enjoys her Spanish class & would probably love the JumpStart Spanish program. She loves stuff designed for little kids - but DH would have a fit. He has no patience for her interest in "little kid stuff". I wonder if those videos they sell on TV are any good? (They're cartoons that are in French - maybe about a bear?)

Well, good luck! :teeth:
