Several people who frequent this board live in the eastern part of NC that was so hard hit yesterday, and I'm concerned about them. My daughter and her family live in Sanford a few miles from the Lowe's that was flattened. Thankfully they are okay. My younger son and his family live in Raleigh, and they were hit yesterday. Their home is intact, just outside damage, but lots of their neighbors weren't so fortunate. Here in W-S we just got torrential rain and high winds.

I hadn't heard, I sure hope everyone is OK.

There were definitely some scarey moments yesterday afternoon. I can say that I was scared ****less by the storm and really concerned because we live in the woods and I was just waiting for some of the trees to either fall or break. Have alot of yard debris to clean-up today but I can deal with that.

CCIntrique -- the Sanford area was sure hit hard, glad to hear that your daughter is okay. We used to live in Spout Springs about 10 miles down NC87 from that Lowes store. Raleigh didn't seem to fair that much better.

CCIntrigue, Glad your family is ok. I went to Campbell U and have many friends in eastern NC. Like you, just hoping our friends are o.k. Keep watching all the news reports, still somewhat in disbelief.
Don't know about you, but I think the winds here yesterday afternoon were scarier than the rain. Trees in our backyard were bending in frightening arcs. Thankful the piedmont was spared. Today we are definately experiencing a calm after the storm.

Shellcruiser, I live in the Lewisville area! We weren't home during the storm - were east of Greensboro, and it was awful there. Rapriebe, glad to hear you're okay.

I'm guessing we're not hearing from some people because of power outages.

CCIntrigue, Glad your family is ok!!

We are in Rocky Mount--heavy rain and some hail in parts of town, but no extreme damage that I am aware of. My DD, DSiL and 9 month old DGD were in Raleigh when the storm went thru---had gone to a ballgame at State. I was worried to death the entire afternoon. They were fine-- not in any areas that had storm damage.

Shellcruiser---My DD graduated from Campbell! I believe that area of the state attracts storms. I worried about the weather all the time when she was in school.

NCSTigger, glad you and your family are okay!

DS and his family were fortunate. Lost some shingles, damage to new car, tore up a wood gym/swing set, moved his heat pump 2 feet off the concrete, and lost 300' of fencing. Of course no power for awhile, so they are staying with friends. From what he said, his neighborhood looks like a war zone.

We live near camp lejeune, and they got hit by the tornados. Destroyed 5-6 housing units on base, a school and the front gate. Another one touched down 5 minutes from my house demolishing an elementary school. There was one rotating in my friends backyard (where we were visiting). My friends husband was outside watching it (now i never said he was the brightest...lol). It did not touch down but was just swirling over head, it sucked up all the water from the ground and twisted the pear tree. The dogs were going crazy and the noise was deafening. We were all okay and had no damage done. My other friend's family was not so lucky. Her family lives in Lumberton and they live next door to each other. All their houses (5) in a row were demolished. They have nothing left. No cars, clothes, water. Everything gone. Luckily they survived, and we are praying for them as we know how close it came to us and cannot imagine what they are going through. Thank you all for your concern!

Prayers for all in the area of the storms and those who love them.

Thanks so much for asking, CCIntrigue :grouphug:

And NC State Tigger, we are in Rocky Mount too! :goodvibes

DDs & I were at the beach with friends while friend's DH & son were at camp on Lake Gaston & my DH & our Airedale were at home, although we were all spread out, none of us witnessed the horrible damage & are keeping our NC negihbors in our prayers.

So happy your Son and Daughter are OK. Yes, Sanford was hit very hard.

We are fine in Garner (Clayton area). No power for about an hour but we were sandwiched between Smithfield and Garner that were hit hard. We were not in direct path, thank goodness. I saw lots of destruction on my way into work in Raleigh this morning. Unbelievable to me, since I've never seen this type of destruction.

Thanks for thinking of your DIS friends, and our hearts and prayers go out to all our NC friends.

I'm just a lurker, but here regularly. I live between Cary and Apex. We were a good 5-10 miles from any tornadoes but our yard/neighborhood/etc was covered in insulation, siding, roof shingles. That twister that ran through Sanford, Raleigh, Rocky Mount was a nasty one. Some of the Lowes debris was identified 40-50 miles away from the store.

Guy I work with was trying to get to his in-laws house to pick up his kid. Houses on both sides destroyed. Their house not touched. Its crazy how these storms work.

Mikmouse, so happy to hear that you are okay! Now what about Shan-man? Wrekless, glad to hear that you're okay! Talked to DS last night. The houses on the street one street over from him suffered severe damage. Thank God he was downhill from them.

I am so sad by the tragic that has come to so many people in the east.
I would like to send prayers to all those who affected by the horrible storms that went thru the Carolina's and the east coast. I pray that the good lord will be with those in their time of need and give comfort.
It's good to hear when disser's report in and are safe.

I have to agree with Frank and send prayers of condolences for those who suffered and prayers of thanksgiving for those who didn't. We have friends and relatives all over the Southeast and the recent weekends of violent weather are scary, with maybe another one coming. To All: Prepare as best you can and be vigilant and safe.
