First trip to DL and im torn with all the resort choices... Im travelling alone so how safe is to be walking to/from the off site hotel locations to the parks? Is it worth it to spend the money to be right across the street from the entrance? Is a 10-15 min walk safe enough/less hassle enough to save some money..going one further is it worth saving EVEN MORE money to stay a bit further out but use the ART transit?

For across the street options im looking at either: Del Sol Inn, Desert Inn or Park Vue

For short walk options im looking at: Castle Inn or Portofino Inn

but the cheapest option is by far Motel 6 Anaheim Maingate...

Any advice?

Oh I should mention i'll be there at the end of June :goodvibes

I frequently do the walk to Motel 6, perfectly safe. I am usually at the Residence Inn. Of the first 3 you mention, I would take the Park Vue. (I can't handle the smoke smell at the Desert Inn, and the Del Sol was really bad when we stayed there.)

Portofino is nice. I have friends that get the place at a discount when they bring their school groups down.

Have you looked at Candy Cane?

We will be there June 19-22!!

I've stayed offsite as a solo female at the Castle Inn and I had absolutely no problems. I've even walked back from Trader Sam's after a few drinks at 1am and still felt relatively safe. Very touristy, and not a long walk at all - fan favorite Candy Cane Inn is right across the street. The updated rooms are also pretty nice, as is free parking.

I haven't stayed at the other hotels, so I can't comment on them.

All of my visits have been solo and I've never felt unsafe walking to or from the parks. I've stayed at Quality Inn & Suites, HoJo's, Del Sol and Ramada Maingate. No matter what time of day there always seems to be plenty of people around and none of those are a long walk. Ramada Maingate I've stayed at twice, the last time was in November, I was really happy with it and the staff were lovely. Same thing with Del Sol the year before, it was clean and great staff.

Have a great time wherever you decide to stay!

There are always a lot of people so you should be fine. I felt safe enough to let my 15-year-old walk across the street by herself after the park closed to the a Ramada Maingate.
I once walked to the Convention Center parking lot, and I would not suggest that walk alone late at night. It seemed a little creepy to me (a 220+ pound male) late at night. I was not afraid, but I would not have let my teen-age daughter walk there alone at night.

Urban dweller and experienced solo female traveler here-- India, Thailand, Mexico, Disneyland, Washington, DC...

I'd suggest the across-the-street places you mentioned... Del Sol, Desert Inn, Park Vue...

I see no safety issues, as long as you're not out on the streets by yourself. There should be at least a steady stream of folks, in my opinion. You can pretty much guarantee that in the close hotels.

Sorry that the previous poster had trouble with smoke smell at the Desert Inn & Suites. In my opinion, you shouldn't let that discourage you, though. I've stayed there numerous times and have never had a problem and I'm super-sensitive. My daughter hasn't either, and I inadvertently turned her paranoid about smoke after a surprising asthma diagnosis. Oops.

Whatever you choose... HAVE FUN!!! I did a solo trip to Disneyland in 1995 to answer the naysayers who said I shouldn't travel to India alone... That I wouldn't have any fun if I didn't share the experience with someone else... LOVED it!!! And went on to LOVE all my other solo travels.

Solo travel is great, but being a mom is better... :) And my last solo trip was to bring home my daughter.:banana::banana:

I stayed at the Sheraton Park Hotel solo (next to Portofino) and felt fine walking back to the hotel alone. If you're an SPG member its a good place to stay. The Theme Park View rooms have a great view of the fireworks when they are on. For the record I was 25/26 when I stayed there (turned 26 my last day there) I left after the fireworks every night and never felt unsafe. There were families with strollers making the same walk every night and I was never alone no matter how late I left the parks. I did tend to move faster than most groups but there were always more families ahead of me that I'd catch up to and pass and repeat.

Any and all of them would be very safe; unless you're out in the middle of the night there will always be tons of foot traffic in all directions. Personal opinion though, I'd stay right on Harbor as close to the cross walk as possible and we did NOT like the Portofino (not dangerous, just not a great hotel).

I've traveled to DL solo several times and stayed at Fairfield inn, Carousel and Annabella.
I felt safe on the first 2 but Annabella was kind of far and since it wasn't on harbor blvd foot traffic was rather sparse.
I would think any mo/hotel on harbor would be just fine.
Always keep your eyes wide open though to be safe.
Have fun!

I have never felt unsafe walking back to different MO/HOtels in Anaheim. I am always very careful and stay aware of my surroundings. I also let my children when they were teens walk back alone if they wanted to leave before or after me. Have a great time.

Thanks to everyone for their great responses...I feel a little more at ease knowing there will be lots of foot traffic after the fireworks at night to park close so I should be fine...

I have tentatively booked the Del Sol Inn (I say tentative because im not too happy about the price) but have free cancellation and will be shopping around a little in the meantime...

Im so excited for my first trip to Disneyland!! After 20+ visits to WDW I finally get to see where it all began! Solo or not im going to have a blast :thumbsup2

If you stay at Motel 6, the ART shuttle stops near the registration area. The next building is Residence Inn. I felt it was a good value for $69, as opposed to paying $100 more to stay across the street. Another good cheapie is Super 8 on Katella.

ART is a great system, by the way, and a big help.

Walking in the area has been safe, as I have been with other women. I never felt endangered.

Have you tried Last Minute Travel Club (google free membership code)? I saw Travelodge on there for $60 in June, plus many others. Or Priceline?

Just an update - I actually called the del sol reservations line and ended up getting a much better price than what I had booked online with booking.com ... avg. $115.20/night so im feeling much better about my choice..

I will look into the last minute club like someone suggested.. :goodvibes
