Off Site Hotels

Is there a list anywhere of offsite hotels ?

We're planning a WDW vacation and are thinking of adding a few days or more at US & IOA.

We will need 2 rooms (7 people) so staying onsite is just too pricey from what I have seen so far. I checked out hotel.ca and the entertainment site and saw rooms from 37.00 a night and up. But I'm wondering if anyone has stayed at any and has any recommendations.

I would love one that includes a cont. breakfast and shuttle to US.

Otherwise we may rent a van and drive ourselves. Just prefer to not need to do that.

we stayed off site in the very early 1990's. after that, we started to stay on site each year. had to wait for the hotels to be put up....

there are pros and cons to on site and off site.
i preferred the hotels off site that have the shuttle to universal.
it's no fun to drive back to the hotel after a full day in the park.
traffic, dark outside and not sure of directions, tired, screaming fighting sons, that type of stuff made me switch to on site hotels.

Homewood Suites Nearest Universal has received good reviews. Their breakfast is free and quite good (based on reviews). And I believe their shuttle to the parks is free.
I haven't stayed there, yet.

There are 2 hotels that we would definitely recommend! Last weekend we stayed at a hotel near Major Blvd and it was right across the street from the UO entrance. It used to be Amersuites but now it is called the Hyatt...the hotel is amazing for the price!! Breakfast is included and everything is new cause the hotel has been completely redone....we had 2 queen beds + a pull out sofa. And a 42 inch plasma tv!!


We also usually stay at the Hawthorne Suites, which is about 5 minutes from UO. The suites sleep about 6 people, or more if small children, and have a kitchen. Plus, breakfast and happy hour are included in the price !! Some people in my family definitely took advantage of the happy hour Yes, I believe there is a shuttle to UO. I think most hotels around UO offer a shuttle.

The Holiday Inn at Universal and the Doubletree should have shuttles or at least they did at one time. Also, check the Clarion - I believe that the closer location may have a shuttle.

The Amerisuites (Hyatt) is really nice but kinda expensive.
The next choice with a breakfast on a budget would be the Best Western.

Hotels charge for shuttles these days, hiring it out to a 3rd party company. The problem with shuttles is that they start running after 9am, and pick you up around 5pm. Your early morning advantage will be gone if you use a shuttle.

we LOVED the Hawthorne suites, i highly recommend it....we definitely took advantage of the happy hour and continental breakfast. it has been byfar the best out of all of the offsite hotels we have ever stayed at!!

i had a great link but i think i deleted it last week. i can't find it in my inbox now.

i subscribed to the Kissimmee - St. Cloud tourist bureau for years.
each year i put the request in and they mail out a packet.

one of the booklets are the off site hotels in Kissimmee and Orlando areas.
you can get the orlando magic card with this packet and it can give some discounts if you show it. it is free.

do a google search if you have not found an off site hotel that you want.


i have stayed at the former Amerisuites on Major blvd back years ago.
it has changed hands now and called something else.
their shuttle was $3 a person at one time. you had to sign up in advance as it only held 20 people.

if i find my link i will post it here for you. right now, i can't even find the booklets i received 2 weeks ago. i do the request to the visitor vacation bureau for coupons. you can sign on thru the internet to join it and receive emails from them quarterly.

if you stay offsite, it is a good resource to have. the local maps they include are worth it.

it states on the brochure i finally found that the center is open monday to friday 8 am - 5 pm est.
don't know if the phone lines are open or not.

call and have them send you the booklets.
they have car discounts, packages, rooms, etc listings.

i know you want orlando/universal area but looking thru this booklet i do see some there with the chain hotels.

I havent stayed there but you can read lots of reviews at trip advisor.

Country Inn and Suites is a chain.
we have one in our town and people rave about it.
you get a free continental breakfast each morning.
we stayed in one but not any in florida. we liked it.

they have a website. check it out.

supposively, they listen to guests complaints and make things right if there are any issues.

i think they take AAA for discounts.

Most of our family trips to the Orlando area are to onsite resorts at WDW, but we've been to Universal several times now and found the chain hotels on Major Blvd to be clean, economical, and convienient.

We've stayed at the Comfort Suites and the Sleep Inn, both on Major Blvd. Standard rooms are at about $75 a night, suites just a bit more. Free continental breakfast, free shuttle to Universal, and free internet wi-fi access included.

I like the fact that they are just across Kirkman Road from the entrance to Universal, and away from the bustle on International Drive.

And for nearby meals out of the parks, there are several restaurants just around the corner. Try Chicago's for full service or the Golden Corral buffet for family dining.

These aren't fancy places, but comfortable and clean, and a great value if you spend most of your day out at the parks and attractions.
