going for our first trip in November, and are planning on staying offf site. Has anybody stayed at the comfort suites at the Entrance gate or at least seen it. It just opened last december so I assume it should still be relatively clean and nice looking. We really like the idea of the breakfast and fridge in the room. Any other suggestion for off site hotels, can't be time shares as dh absolutely hates them and would freak out at even the thought of staying at one.

The Comfort Suites is located on Major Blvd next to the Sleep Inn. Both hotels are run by the same people. I have not stayed at the Comfort Suites, but the Sleep Inn is a hotel I would recommend. The Comfort Suites are one room accomodations with microwave and refrigator.

Another hotel you may want to considers is the Amerisuites on Caravan Ct. It has similar amenities, but can often have great rates.

Thank you very much, the thing that appealed to me about the Comfort Suites was that you could walk to Universal, as we will have the kids and strollers alot of times I would prefer to walk a distance rather then stop fold up strollers, get in car seats etc. any other non-universal hotels close enough to walk to the gate.

Comfort Suites is not "at the Entrance gate." It is well back from Kirkman on Major Blvd.

It takes me about 30 minutes to walk from there to CityWalk. And you have to cross Kirkman, which is six lanes wide. You have to hustle to cross in the time alloted by the walk signal.

At least in November the temperature should be nice.

I'm not trying to discourage you from staying there, just trying to give you a realistic picture.

Agreeing with Kelly. You don't want to do that walk, especially with kids. The Major Blvd. hotels are extremely convenient by car, but I'd never consider walking from there. From hotel lot to parking garage, you're looking at about 5 minutes in the car. I'm not even sure what path you'd take once you are across Kirkman, but it's likely about a 2 mile walk in total from the gate of IOA or USF back to your room. That would be a miserable walk back from the parks in the evening. You will ask yourself over and over again "why did we do this?"

Stay on Major Blvd., it's great. But drive.

Stayed at Amerisuites on Caravan in June '01 and they had a free shuttle that was shared with the Comfort Suites and Sleep Inn. It was convenient but only ran at certain times, mainly morning and evening, so a mid-day break was a hassle. You will see the back of the USF parking garage from the hotel, and it does look deceivingly close. We did the walk on one day, you can actually cut a lititle bit of the legwork off the trip by using the garage stairwell, go up one level from the street, and utilize the moving sidewalks from the garage to the front entrance. It is still quite a hike, and do be careful crossing Kirkman, it seems that they don't see many pedestrians at that intersection.

We're going to try the Country Inn & Suites at 7701 Universal Blvd. The rates are better than for the other places listed here and you can get the suite with mini fridge and microwave, although we are just going for the room. There is a breakfast.

Cheers :)
