New to the site. It's great reading. Better than the guide books because of the multiple opinions. (rather than authors jaded)

We're (2 families, 6 people) planning a visit mid-june and need a one-nite stay off-site. We are looking at two hotels and we are wondering if anyone has opinions, negative or positive to them.

Hawthorn Suites - Airport Clarion - Universal

Travelocity comments are mostly postive. But we want to avoid any surprises. Thanks in advance for your comments.

We are also still open to suggestions for this night. Like to keep
the cost under $75 per room.

"BUMP" ??

Newmousecateer:

Did you have a comment on my post ? If so please submit it again.

Thanks !

Hi newmousecateer was just giving your thread a bump up on the page for others to see.

Hawthorn Suites in Orlando get a lot of positive reviews from board posters.

There are 3 of them...Lake Buena Vista, Airport, and Universal. With a group your size, you might be able to get a 2 br unit, but that will prolly be more than $75. nitely.

Don't know anything about the Clarion. I would try www.hotelkingdom.com to check out other hotels.

First, thanks for the info on the inner workings of the forums. Still feeling my way around. (just days old)

We have a rez at both Hawthorn/Airport(suite) (we could not get other in town site) and at the Clarion Univ. Cancel policy on both gives us time to decide after we arrive and can inspect. Spouse will not work/stay at dirt pits some of these properties become.

Thanks again !

Where are you planning to spend your time. The airport is not really a good location for the parks and the traffic in Orlando on I-4 can be bad. I would look for something closer to either Universal or Disney depending on what you plan to do.

There is a SpringHill suites in Lake Buena Vista. Always had good results there.

Yes Carol is right about the airport location not being convenient to attractions. I was thinking you wanted to be close to the airport for an early morning or late flight, but maybe thats not the case.

I would suggest the 2 br 2 bath trip suite at Summerfield Suites (near the Hawthorn LBV).

If you join Wyndham By Request, you can get a 2l day advance internet rate of around $85 for that unit. (Payable in advance tho)

If you are close enough to that other family to vacation together, why not just SHARE a large suite for the one night?? That way you could go upwards of $130 a night and still be saving $$$$

If you are willing to share, my vote would be Summerfield Suites (stayed at I-drive in 2001), and you could get a trio suite around $130 or so, which sleeps 8 and has two bathrooms, and cont breakfast.

If you want separate rooms, you have tons of under $75 options on hotelkingdom.com. Sierra Suites is at $53.26, Hojo I-drive suite at $47.90.

Hi

We stayed at the clarion universal for two weeks last september and had a great holiday!
We didn't spend much time in the hotel but it was nice. It was always spotlessly clean and the staff were friendly and helpful.
It was a bit of a pain not being right on the main road, only about 2 minutes walk but seemed like ages after a long day at the parks, but that could also be a plus not having the noise of the main road. We did use the hotel shuttle bus to go to universal but it didn't start very early and was not very frequent so if we missed it we got the lynx bus, only down the road.

We didn't eat in the hotel at all, breakfast or dinner, because it was only a 2/3 minute walk to all the other restaurants and ponderosa was much cheaper for breakfast. We did buy a few bits from the counterservice place but it was quite expensive.
The pool was nothing to write home about but it was fine considering we only used it for a couple of hours and it's got two jacuzzis aswell, which were nice. But then wet n wild is only across the street.

All in all we had a great time, the hotel was comfortable and clean and the staff were friendly. Ours friends stayed in the Best Western Plaza and hated it so much they were moved to the Best Western Movieland, just down the road from the clarion. They had a slightly better location, (not so much walking), but they were jealous cause we had a nicer hotel!!!!!
:sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :teeth:

p.s you didn't say if you would have a car or not but we did't and got buses to both universal and disney with no large hickups at all. The only minor one being the buses not running late from disney (only about 10 o clock or so) and there being a fight to get on the last one!;)

First our thanks to "hercamore" for the suggestion to look at Summerfield suites. Only LBV had rooms at Entertainment rate ($139) left but based on what we saw on their web site the two bedroom suite should serve us well.

Second: Anyone have experience with the Summerfield Suite LBV property??

if you are staying at a offsite hotel universal. try the holiday inn mercado. I book thru www.hotelmartusa.com and I only pay 55.95 per night all taxes included. only catch you must pay for the night up front and takes 48 hours for confirmation email. The hotel is only 2 years old and very clean. The people at the front desk are very nice and eager to please.
if you are staying at a offsite holtel near disneyworld try the days inn eastgate just 2 miles outside of disneyworld. www.avistahotels.com -- immediate confirmation-- It is only 27.95 plus tax and 2.50 resort tax. I found the rooms very clean. plus free continental breakfast in the morning.
these are what i would pick for my stays.

You posted the above and I was wondering where on the website is this listed? I joined Wyndham by request and this 85.00 a night for the 2 bed / 2 bath would be perfect for me in July.

Thanks for your help.
