My 11yo DD may have to have surgery on her foot before our trip in September. She has Aspergers and will detest being in a wheelchair (hates attention, hates the slightest bit of discomfort). She's a bigger girl, so we'd need an adult chair. The thing is, too, that I need it to be comfortable for whomever is pushing her. A standard WC (like the ones at WDW) are awful to push. I really have no idea of how any of that will work, since 8yo is in a stroller chair at WDW most of the time and my mother usually rents an ECV. I'm hoping she'll buck up and push 8yo this time (or that my older DDs will be off work and able to help out). Otherwise, I may need a wheelchair built for 2! ;)

Any advice on where/what to rent?

thank you!

If her surgery is right before the trip and she will still either be in a cast or have stitches I would have the PT department run a rental chair through your insurance at the hospital.

No insurance, so whatever we do will be OOP. She wouldn't be in a cast, but might have stitches (we won't know for sure if she'll have surgery until her appointment in 2 weeks)

Check the "disABILTIES FAQ". If you click on where it says "disABILTIES" at the top of this page it will take you to the Index. The top item is the "disABILTIES FAQ" which will gives lots of useful information, including where people rent wheelchairs.

You can give them the size and weight of your daughter and they will be able to provide a chair which fits her properly and is lighter than the Disney rentals. Also it will have adjustable foot rests, which the Disney chairs do not.

someone posted about a wheelchair they just bought off of Amazon for under $100, you may want to check out the post over there and see if its something you would be interested in.

THANK YOU!!! I went ahead and ordered it, the price can't be beat! We're driving and have a cargo trailer, so that isn't an issue. Plus, if my 8yo still needs a chair after she outgrows her stroller, we'll be set!
