We're considering changing our resort reservation from AoA Nemo suite to AKL during the week of Thanksgiving. For those who have been to AKL in Nov. & during cooler weather, are all of the animals still out roaming the savanaah or do many of them take shelter from the cooler temperatures? I guess what I'm wondering is if there would be less animals to see during our stay, and if so, would it be worth it to switch resorts? Any advice would be appreciated!

We stayed at the AKL in Nov 2010, the week before Thanksgiving, had a Savannah view, and saw tons of animals. Most days it was the high 70's. I have never been any other time of year, so I have nothing to compare with. AKL is beautiful, and has my favorite buffet, the Boma. Yummm!

We stayed in a savannah view room in Dec 2010. It was FREEZING that week, like hats and gloves and winter coats freezing, and we still saw a ton of animals. I wouldn't know if there were any specific animals we didn't see, but I know we saw many different ones, and definitely watched giraffes and zebras every day.

We were there during late November and early December 2006, it was the coldest December they ever had. People were buying gloves, mittens, scarves and going to stores off proberty to buy coats. We saw lots of animals every day.

One warning: If you stay there...you may never want to stay anywhere else again. :)

We were also guests at AKL with record breaking cold weather a few of the days during our week (December 2010) and we saw lots of animals on the savanna's. We also did the Sunset (Wanyama) Safari and learned that the only animals being kept in the barns (due to the cold weather) rather than being out on the savanna were the red river hogs.

That's very interesting. That's when we were there, and one day and I saw those hogs being escorted off the savannah! I was on our balcony right at the end of the savannah area, and saw 2 of the hogs in a little separate section. Then some CM's came and shooshed them back further in the separate pen, out of sight, never to be seen again during our visit.

Glad to know they were just keeping warm, and not on the breakfast buffet at Boma! :rotfl2:

Ate at Sanaa in Nov 2010, there were a good number of animals you could see from the dining area. I imagine it was similar across the property. The big thing to consider though, is that the sunset is early during those months, and that will limit how much time you can see the animals.

Thanks for everyone's responses. I'm still torn between staying at AoA Nemo suite or AKL. I know my daughter & I would love AKL, but my son & husband would rather stay at AoA. Maybe if we get a discount PIN for AKL, I'd be able to sway my husband to make the switch to AKL!
