The positive buzz and reviews of The Odyssey are impressive. We are waiting a week as all of our theater showings have been sold out since Thursday..including tonight's 2 am show!!!!!!! I taught the Odyssey for decades, so I'm thrilled so many people are wanting to see the film...or do they just love Christopher Nolan??? LOL. Fun fact....the gentleman who designed the film's Trojan Horse is on our city Rose Parade float team as our designer! I spoke with him today at a float design meeting, and he was so mellow about the release. I guess it's just a job in his eyes!

First day of school I told students they would get a bag of candy if they told me what was in the corner of the room... didn't have to have correct that day...and saw argos as a puppy on previews

I've got a friend coming to town in a few days so I'm waiting to go see it with her. No IMAX theaters near me but I'll be visiting another friend next month and we may go see it again in IMAX. I'm delighted to see it doing so well!

Probably both. I'm one of the legion of Christopher Nolan fans, but I'm sure this particular one is drawing in the Homer nerds, just as "Oppenheimer" drew in the science history nerds.

My father is curious about how The Odyssey movie will do at the box-office and what I think in my eyes is that this movie will receive stellar reviews but I think once the new Spider-Man movie debuts on July 31st Spider-Man Brand New Day will dethrone The Odyssey and be #1 and The Odyssey will move to 3rd place

There is only ONE truly 70mm IMAX theater in Georgia. Seeing it on that vs a regular IMAX is night and day as it was shot for the 70mm. I missed out on Oppenheimer but wasn't going to miss this.

DS#2 and I are going Friday to a 7:15 AM showing. Only other option with seats not on the first three rows was a 3 am this week. I'm excited.

One of my favorite readings in college and I still have my World Masterpieces textbook (almost 50 years old) because I loved all the readings in it. I pulled it out and have been brushing up.

I saw someone say to watch the movie TROY (2004) as this movie will pick up from end of that if you are Odyssey rusty.

AND I've watch so many interviews and stories and just amazing how they made this movie, the tough conditions, so much was "real" like the Cyclops was a massive animatronic in a real cave. No CGI.

I saw argos as a golden retriever puppy in one clip.... I wonder what kind of tear jerker that will be.... also excited to see the bed...and the interpretation of the sirens... I always played spa vocals for the students for my interpretation was the voice was heavenly....then SNAP!!!

This was one of my favorite books in college. I was intrigued at the first few trailers, and with all the positive fan and critic reviews I can’t wait to see it! We would have gone this weekend, but we are waiting to see it with my FIL later this week. I guess I’ll check the theaters for ticket availability.

I saw the trailer for this when we went to see something else (Young Washington) not long ago. I have seen some TV commercials for it. I like Matt Damon, I think this is something I would like to see. I don't know about that technical stuff as far as which location to see something at, but it looks pretty wild.

I’m not a massive fan of Christopher Nolan / Anne Hathaway / Matt Damon HOWEVER this movie is brilliant! Took our 16yo son to see it on Saturday and we both have it 8.5/10. I would even sit through it again because I’m sure I’ve missed heaps.

Considering there are only 25 IMAX 70 theaters showing it in the whole US, that comparison is pretty moot. Most people will see it in whatever format is available to them.

I’m sure Christopher Nolan wouldn’t tell anyone not to bother seeing the movie if they can’t see it in 70mm.

Didn't realize there were so few - I mean it makes sense since few movies are shot this way. But if I had one relatively close to me, I would make the effort to see it there. Ours is not far, we'll likely have to leave an hour ahead.

I never said to not go see it if you don't go to 70mm, just sharing the def difference in the two. I think if you have that option you should choose that. Of course if your only option is a regular screen that is your only option. Depending on how much I enjoy it I might see again in my local IMAX. Might be interesting to compare the full film to the partial film.

I posted the comparison so folks can see the difference and be aware. I think had I not know the difference, seen all the previews and then got to the movie and 1/3 of it was missing, I'd be disappointed. I'd rather be prepared for my reality.

Only 45 Globally.... Seems it's outdated/obsolete technology that hasn't been made in 50 years, maintance is very costly. Which is why we likly won't see any growth in this market. It's also much more costly for a theater to operate a showing, as it take rolls and rolls of actual film... the art for splicing film isn't one that's taught much anymore.
