I have a slight oder in the dishwasher, even when empty after running a full load. I wiped down the inside and the ridge along the front bottom, but that hasn't seemed to work. Does anyone know of anything I can use to get rid of it?

You could pour in two cups of bleach, then run an empty wash without detergent. I do this every so often.

I run it with vinegar in the detergent holder if that ever happens. I have done the same with my clothes washer and it gets rid of the odours.

I agree. Vinegar is great in the dishwasher. I usually wash a load of dishes empty it then immediately run an empty load with vinegar.

The reason I do it this way is. After washing a load, the machine parts are good and warm making the gunk building up easier to remove when you run the vinegar cycle.

Vinegar in the washer is great! Especially with bath towels it makes them fluffier. Removes static and cost A LOT less than softner if you buy vinegar from Sam's, Costco, or BJ. The bottle is a 5 litter size for less than $3. Just stocked up the other day as a matter of fact.

A few days ago there was a thread about hard water and the dishwasher. Mine was so bad we had a white powdery film on everything. I was just about ready to replace the dishwasher that is only 2 1/2 years old but several people said to try vinegar. What an AMAZING difference it made. I have been pouring a cup or so in the bottom just before I turn it on. My guess is that it's cleaned out the hoses and pipes, etc. I imagine it would take care of any odors too.

I paid $3.83 for 2 gallons on vinegar at Sams Club the other day. A LOT cheaper than a new dishwasher!!!!:yay:

Make sure the filters in the bottom dont have any food reside in them. Hot water and vinegar should take care of the rest of it.

I'll have to try this. Thanks.

In the laundry, do you add the vinegar to the wash cycle with detergent or with the fabric softener?

When using it in the laundry use it in place of fabric softner. And NO your clothes will not smell like vinager. ;)

Another good use for vinager is to remove cooking odors. If you cook fish, onions, burnt popcorn, just poor some vinager in a cup and leave it on the counter and by morning the smell is gone. Also works for odors in the microwave.

Here's a little twist to the dishwasher smell. Our glasses smell!

There is no real "smell" to the dishwasher itself, but when you take a glass out and smell it, it smells like a wet dog. We've tried changing soaps, opening the door as soon as it is finished, vinegar in the rinse and they still stink!

Any clues how to get rid of this??

A Packert of Tang works wonders as well. Once a month we just dump a package of Orange tang into the DW and let it run a cycle.
