what are the odds I might be able to score a studio at grand Californian from July 31 to August 4th? I just paid a deposit for David's to look into it for me since I can't check myself but I think the odds are stacked against me this close right?

Yes. If there is any unbooked inventory, it's in the breakage period for booking. If there is any availability even via breakage, it's probably 1 night tops.

GCV is a very small DVC resort that books up very solidly by or slightly after 7 months. By breakage, availability is generally gone.

I just checked and my search showed no villas of any size available for your dates. Sorry.

Availability isn't always checkable in RAT once breakage occurs, as I understand stuff. Might be wrong.

But I think once you're inside 60 days, you have to actually call.

I've never seen nor heard of DVC villas renting out for cash at VGC. But unbooked rooms at 60 days are pretty rare too and one just has to hope to catch a cancellation or be able to waitlist.

In 2012, I had a studio booked for the end of September at VGC. Halloween party dates came out around the end of June, I waitlisted an additional night, a Friday. It never came through, I waitlisted all the way to 7 nights before. We booked a cash night at Paradise Pier and moved for that night. Proves how hard VGC can be.

Well, that's why I said if.

However, if that if is a thing, my understanding is that at 60 days they are passed through to CRO, and availability is not accessible in the standard DVC member tools.

Well, not necessarily as far as I can tell.

Not all inventory goes immediately to CRO if it's not booked at 60 days. And since DL doesn't rent out VGC for cash as far as I've seen that won't because there's no where for it to get turned over to.
