October 7, 2012 - California Dreamin' Coastal Cruise

Welcome aboard fellow Hawaiian cruisers!!!!!!!!

Since you live in San Francisco, I was hoping that maybe you advise me if our plan for Day 1 is too adventurous? I am travelling with my Mom who is a senior.

Since we did the repo last year, we have already taken an amazing city tour, (crossing the Golden Gate Bridge, saw Twin Peaks, etc), saw Alcatraz, Sausilito (sp?), the Walt Disney Family Museum and took a night tour of Chinatown. I am trying to plan a day for my Mom and I so that we can ride a cable car, see Lombard Street and shop at the Disney Store and if there is time, visit the Britex Fabric Store on Geary Street (I think it is near the Disney store) before heading back to walk around Fisherman's Wharf.

How would be the best to go about getting these things accomplished in a day so that we are not exhausted for our Carmel & Monterey excursion the next day?

Thanks in advance

Wow we were on the Hawaii cruise too!!! :cool1:

We will be taking my aunt and grandma with us on this cruise. It makes it so easy to be able to just drive to the port from home. Thats one of the reasons we are taking this one which makes it easy for my grandma to cruise with us this time. It should be nice cruise and cant wait to see what the pixar add ons will be.
Its getting close now :)

I am so jealous of all the Hawaiian cruisers! My husband and I were supposed to take one of those cruises but couldn't arrange for childcare for 2 weeks nor could we take the kids out of school for 2 weeks. So we compromised by taking a 5 night Dream this summer and will take a Med cruise next summer. However, I am so up in the air about the summer Med cruise. I would love to do the TA followed by the first Med cruise, but there is no way we could take that much time off work. Man, I wish we were rich and didn't have to work. It really puts a damper on those cruise plans of ours...

All but Lombard Street are pretty easy to do in one shot. I would walk from the ship about 6 flat blocks and take the Mason Cable Car at Bay at Taylor. Take the cable car all the way to the end of the line, Powell and Market. Then walk down Market a couple of blocks, to Stockton, walk up Stockton a short distance to the Disney Store. Continue up Stockton, about 2 blocks to Geary and Britex is about a block down Geary. Walk back down 2 blocks to Market, if you wait on the east island in the middle of the street, you can get the F Market, the old historic street cars, it will take you all the way back to the ship.

Ignore the red arrows. Map one, The ship will be near the Aquarium of the Bay. Bay Street is in yellow.

We just booked this cruise and are excited to be joining the last Coastal Pixar cruise.

We live in San Francisco so had debated back and forth about the cruise. In fact, they came out with a great military rate on the 9-7 NY to Canada so we booked that cruise and will be heading to New York with friends. This morning we decided to go ahead and book this cruise too.

If we can answer any questions about our city, let me know.

Thanks so much! You can also find out FB link on page one.

For the SM - I will be sending out a questionairre for you to fill in and return to me so I can match you up :)

Thanks so much!

After more thought about the secret mickey - I have decided to participate. Our cabin (princesskayla with 5 family members total) will play. Thanks!

So after paying for the cruise and signing up for FE and SM this weekend, I've already started buying gifts haha. I am not crafty and don't have time, so everything will be made by someone other than me!

So tell me more about SM. Is it one per stateroom? Or one per kid? Like if I have two kids am I planning to buy for two other people?

Can you tell I'm excited???

We just booked today! Was so tempted by the IGTs, but then they e-mailed my travel buddy with the military rates which were even better! So we nabbed a 9C, and we're super excited, though I haven't told DS5 yet! :ssst::jumping1:

  • DisNames: taaren & camonkeygirl
  • Travelling: Heather, Taaren, and Sam (5)
  • Cabin: 2616 (might be changing)
  • Dining: Late
  • FE: Yes!
  • Secret Mickey: Not sure ... up to Heather since she's the local and has space in her luggage!

The room reports on 2616 aren't good since its directly below the galley, apparently there's a lot of kitchen noise. Hoping the TA can switch us beforehand, or maybe we can try it for a few nights, then ask to be moved if its simply too loud?

YAY - doing the happy dance. I think it would be interesting to do the Secret Mickey too.

Secret Mickey is like a secret Santa idea. You can do two different ones so that each child gets their own but then you purchase for 2 as well. You can do a single secret Mickey for both kids but just as an FYI - your cabin will still only get the 2-3 gifts total. SM should be 2-3 gifts total. 2 smaller and 1 larger - thre will be areveal meet on the last sea day (will only be about 20 minutes) and you get to find out who had you. You shold spend a total of $25-30 on the gifts. Hope this helps!

Welcome! Just let me know by the 15th for certain.

Okay wait so do most people do one SM? Or as many kids in their rooms? I am leaning toward doing two so both of the boys have the gifts. But is that not the norm?

Yay!!! Just booked our cruise! The military discount was too good to pass up! First time ever cruising! Any help is appreciated! I've been scouring these boards for weeks now and am keeping my head above water. We are huge DLR people since having passes for over 8 years now (I've had passes for over 26 years).

DisNames: theggs4ever
Travelling: Crissie (me), DH Rocky, DD Sydnee (turns 8 on embarkation day!), and Madison (2 1/2)
Cabin: 2134
Dining: early
FE: Yes, but I have no clue hat I am doing! Ha!
Secret Mickey: No
Celebrating: Sydnee's birthday! Shhh...the cruise is a surprise!

Hi Des. Please sign us up for both the FE and the Secret Mickey.

Thanks! Got it!

Okay wait so do most people do one SM? Or as many kids in their rooms? I am leaning toward doing two so both of the boys have the gifts. But is that not the norm?

I strongly suggest a SM for no more then 2 guests - only because it is difficult for a person to purchase SM for more then that which is specific to the cabin (you want to buy for what the person likes - if you have a lot of people - it's difficult and you end up being a little more generic) That being said - you can participate that way with the understanding that you need to fill out the questionairre a little more broadly.

People also so multiples so that it is specific to the individual. I usually do one for my DD and one for hubby and I - I want her to get her own gifts.

It is whatever works for you and makes you happy :)

Anything you would like your SM to know about you?

You may sign up as many individual guests in a cabin as you wish. Simply fill in this form for each guest participating. If you choose to only do one SM for multiple guests in the cabin it is suggested that no more then 2 guests on the same SM. However, there are no SM police :) and you will be allowed to sign up how you like.

If you choose to have 1 SM for more then 2 guests – please fill out the form a little more broadly. Please do not list each member’s information as this will become quite involved for the person who gets you.

For example, if you have one or two guests under the same SM – you may fill in each of their info on the same form. If you have more then two guests, please choose an overall favorite character or snack, etc. Listing a favorite snack for 3-4 different people will become overwhelming for the person who receives your information.

Rules for SM: You should spend in the $25-30 range for each SM. If you have chosen to do multiples (such as 1 for each adult/couple or 1 for each child) you will need to spend the amount for each SM you are assigned. There should be a min. of 2-3 gifts for your recipient. The gifts can be what you like but please refer to their questionnaire for their preferences. Quite often we see someone buy what was on sale or what they personally like and it does not go along with the spirit in which you agreed to participate. The final gift should be kept and delivered in person on the reveal day. Usually it is the last sea day but due to our itinerary, it will be Ensenada day at 5PM in the Promenade Lounge. If you are unable to make it – please make sure that you deliver your final gift and identify yourself. It should only last about 15-20 minutes as I know people have things to do.

If you have any questions, please let me know. The deadline to get your questionnaire to me is August 18th and you should have your SM info by August 20th.
