October 11, 2014 7-Night Southern Caribbean Cruise on Disney Magic (San Juan)

Has anyone ever boarded a ship out of San Juan? If you get there early is there an in door/air conditioned waiting area? Just curious if you wait outside or in a waiting area?

I haven't, but that's a great question. I'd love to know the answer.

We boarded a ship at the Pan American terminal and it was not " very " air conditioned. It was very warm, crowded and had a few plastic outdoor chairs.
I am not sure about the Old San Juan terminal though ( where Disney boards)
Hopefully it is nicer!

We boarded once at one of the Old San Juan Terminals (last pier to the west), but it was a small SilverSea ship and when we arrived we just past right through the building, walked up the gangway and boarded. When we disembarked, I remember going into the building to collect luggage, but it seemed pretty open. I am pretty sure Disney will be using a different pier, but I wouldn't expect much in the way of air conditioning or amenities.

It's official airfare was purchased thursday with the Delta glitch we got one way tickets from Minneapolis to San Juan for 35.00 per person (and yes it's even first class):cool1::cool1:

Complete happy and jealous of you all at the same time! LOL

WOW $35. You are so lucky! Just booked Harrisburg PA to San Juan one way (we are doing back to back) for $333 per person and I thought that was good.

Now to find a hotel for the night.

We are staying at the Best Western with Jeff & Susan as of now (unless someone else has a huge sale later).

Can't book air til southwest releases flights!

I have re read all of the posts to see where people are staying pre cruise...did some looking and all of a sudden a light bulb went off..we have bank of America bonus points! Sure enough, we can get a free room or one for less than $15!! Whew. Time is flying. We just were in WDW 8 nights and then a 4 night Dream, and it seemed like it took forever to get there...now it's over and this one will be here before you know it. I was looking to see what is left on the ship and only inside rooms available, very few
For those of you with GTY rooms, twice I took one and was put in a handicap accessible room as no one needed one medically. They are HUGE and the veranda is HUGE. So you never know.
I can't wait to see the Magic. DH and I were married on the ship June 2 of this past year...yes, after 50 years we reconnected and realized we always loved each other since childhood and got married at 62. Yep, I was a Disney bride at age 62!! I was hoping to see Mike the Asst Cruise Director, but he was moved to the Dream and we got to see him in Dec on our cruise. He sent us a bottle of champagne. This will be our 10th cruise, with B2B our 11th.
We were fortunate to get this cruise at a 25% discount after having been in Hurricane Sandy on the Fantasy....and I hope and pray that we never have to go through anything like that again. I was sure we were going to die. Waves were up over the top deck of that huge ship, and the creaking of the ship was an eery sound. We rolled out of bed and were then pitched forwards, suitcases flying across the room. Capt came on at 1am and said "you are safe, just stay in your room"...how could you leave? I think Disney learned their lesson not to try to follow a hurricane up the coast...as it stalled. The other ships all went south of Puerto Rico to avoid it.
Let me know what hotels you are staying in. We just booked our flight from Harrisburg PA to SJ on USAir for $333 each. I was afraid to wait and didn't see anything cheaper. looking forward to seeing the shore excursions. We did so many on that June Mediterranean cruise that we were exhausted and broke!!!
You will find us in the bar, I am sure. I am on facebook, Susan Rotunda Hartman.
Happy New Year everyone!

Hmm, when I checked today it was only "porthole" rooms available. Anyway, we called DCL today and were told that the two hotels they'll be picking up from are the San Juan Marriott and the Caribe Hilton. We booked at the Marriott and the room includes a welcome drink and 4 bottles of water. A Walgreens and Starbucks are right across the street. :cheer2:

Now that it appears we are sailing from San Juan at night (is it 9 pm?), I think we will try to fly in on Saturday morning to avoid my son having to miss another day of school. I normally don't like to do that, but I think this time I'm going to chance it.

Do you think we'll be able to board the ship and then get back off to explore San Juan before the ship leaves? I'm wondering if those doing the back to back will also have the option to leave the ship for the day to explore in San Juan in between cruises.

I was looking at the Southern Caribbean. All I saw was one category (I think it was 11) available. I may be dyslexic though. I sent Scott my stateroom number and realized it was backwards when I couldn't find it on the deck plan of the ship!

Cruise-booked and flight to San Juan booked so it appears that it is really going to happen. :cool1: Myself (Joanne) and DH (Jim) booked this cruise when it was released and added the B2B repositioning not long after. This will be our 3&4 Disney Cruise and are so excited for this itinerary. We are hoping that friends that we met on our first Cruise (Eastern/Jan 2010) will be joining us but they are still undecided. We will not be doing the FE this cruise due to limited luggage space/weight restrictions. I have sent a request to join the fb group as well.

Sheraton near the port.

We booked the Sheraton Old San Juan last night - Travelocity has it listed with a 40% off Fall Sale rate - $179 for Friday night 10/10, so I jumped on it. Love the location & proximity to port.

I have tried to book it, but it won't let me book just one night. Gotta try Travelocity.

I have read a lot of posts here and on facebook and have been on 9 Disney cruises. Thanks, Scott, for taking this on. I know it is a big job. Just want to add that I agree with splitting the group up. When we sailed in June in the Med we had to fly to Barcelona. The person who took over the FE divided us to not have more than 12 or 13 in the group in order for us to travel with all of the gifts. She went as far as to put people from different geographic areas in the groups. That was above and beyond, but it was great as we got items from other countries and other parts of the USA. Then she also said that we could choose to give to all or just our group, but we had to agree to give to our group to make it fair for everyone. I think we had assigned days, but I didn't stick to that. We got married on that cruise and had too many other things to worry about. I like the random days and finding a surprise.
Well, that's my humble opinion.
It looks like this will be a sold out cruise unless people cancel. Category 11 is all that is left.
Looking forward to the ports and to meeting all of you. I have formed friendships on all of our cruises, even our very first that was 5 years ago. On our Mediterranean, I had posted that we were getting married on the ship and one of our fellow cruisers said he would be there, and he was with his wife, and took professional pictures!! And emailed them to me. I was amazed at the kindness of people on the Disney cruises. We all have one thing in common, we love the Mouse!
