October 11, 2014 7-Night Southern Caribbean Cruise on Disney Magic (San Juan)

We have been trying to convince some other families to book this cruise too. Unfortunately the price has gone up so much on this cruise that it's been a tough sell. One family did book, another decided to sail RCL southern that leaves the same day from San Juan, and a few more are on the fence.

I am glad we booked when we did. We would be paying almost 2000 more if we booked now. That's how I am justifying the repo;).

Even with current pricing this was a bargain. My wife wants to switch the two we have booked now with a New Years cruise.

Fewer days same ship a lot more money because of the Holliday.

I shouldn't have told here it was a min 12 hours to get to San Juan.

So, I took too long to decide to do the repo and now my room isn't available.:scared1:

I am going to call my TA and see what I can do over the phone. I was hoping that some of the rooms were being used by dummy bookings and would eventually be available. Then I started reading another thread and noticed that there are a number of b2b bookings where the repo is the first leg followed by another 5 day.

I really don't want to move my luggage for 3 days - though that is certainly better than not going at all.

It's just my DD and me, so we have always gotten an 11B on 6.

Anyone have experience with deck 5? There's a chance I could find an open room for both cruises on deck 5.....

We've been on 6 and 8 on the Wonder/Magic. Your best bet is to go to the DCL website on two different pages on your computer and do a search for each cruise and look room by room once you choose your category. Then tell your TA what room you want to be switched to if it's available for both cruises. Just be aware, the Southern is slim pickings from the looks of it and if you upgrade, you may pay dearly unless they adjust for you. Good luck!

If she upgrades, she gets the same price it would have been to upgrade the day she booked, not the current price. At least, that is what I have read here on the forum.

We downgraded from a 4 to a 5 when the repo was released and got the pricing as if we had booked a 5 originally :-)

Thanks for the quick responses. I have tried the DCL website but since the Southern is filling up, I don't think there are any 11Bs left on 6.

Great to know that I can upgrade at the same rate as the day I booked. That is worth considering. I thought that I would have to pay the current price. HMMMmmmmmmmm......

I am going to book it no matter what, but it would be SO AWESOME to not pack twice....

I hope you find what you are looking for, let us know! (And so glad you can upgrade at the rate you booked at! Whew!)

Did you all see announcement about the new smoking rules? As of November 15th, no more smoking on verandas

YEAH! But I wish it started October 15th.
We are sailing on the Fantasy on the 10/19 Eastern.
At least we won't have to deal with it on our next cruise :rotfl:

I know. We're sailing on 9/21. Too soon this year, but gives us something to look forward to next year.

On another note somebody started a Southern Carribean planning thread :

Does that involve a transatlantic flight?

We'll be travelling from the UK but there are no direct flights so it is going to be a long journey. Which makes me so glad that they've added the repo so at least the return journey will be easier.

We like Deck 5 and chose our favourite stateroom there (5C) on opening day, which we've also got for the repo.

We like how quiet it is because there are far fewer cabins than on other decks (like 6 and 7, where we've also stayed). There isn't as much passing traffic because people generally only come by to get to their room, it isn't on the way to anywhere. Also, I find walking through Deck 5 to get other places on the ship more interesting because it isn't just a long row of stateroom doors.

:cool1: I'm so pleased about this. We've been very lucky and not had too much of a problem, just the occasional smoker nearby, but I am always concerned that we could be next door to regular smokers and effectively lose the use of our verandah. Now I know that's not going to happen. :cool1:

When did our sail away become 9:30pm? I remember seeing 7pm when we booked....

Well, I didn't see your post until just now. I was having the WORST day  at work, and what should you do when your having a bad day, why you book another cruise, what else??!!??!?! :yay:

So I called my TA - At first she told me that I would have to pay the difference between the original cost of what I booked for the 11B and the cost of an 11A today (which is something like $800). Then she checked with Disney - and it was only $60 to go from an 11B to an 11A and move up to 7 so that we can stay in the same room. :cool1:

I kind of wish I had seen your post before I called. I was worried about the noise on 5 because of theater - though I don't know why because it isn't running late at night. I never considered that there would be less people traffic. That is a real plus.

No regrets here though. It will be our first B2B, 10 glorious days cruising on the Magic, and a couple of quiet days at the end of a busy cruise. I am so excited. I may keep the 3 day repo a secret from my DD.... although a year is a LONG time to keep it quiet.

I changed my booking today (see previous post) and the itinerary that came with the update states that departure is 4:00 pm....
