October 11, 2014 7-Night Southern Caribbean Cruise on Disney Magic (San Juan)

Does DCL give us an option of staying one night before and one night after?

And does that include the transfers as well?

From the hotel?

And to the hotel from the airport?

That was available as an option on the sailing we just did, so I would think so. Once I cancel my original booking, I will get Karla to add transfers and hotel and see what she gives me as an option.

Not Lurking...Just reading...My family and I don't really get into the whole FE thing...Please don't get me wrong, it's just not for us.

This trip will be #18 for us. Really love the whole itinerary. thinking of going down a night or 2 early and explore San Juan. Looking at hotels now, trying to decide. I've heard that Old San Juan at night is like a "combat zone"not sure if I want to immerse my kids into that...But want to have some beach time before the trip...

any suggestions?

what do u mean by a combat zone exactly.......

and to each there own, you dont have to do fe to be in our group.....

i am actully starting to reconsider the FE thing myself with only one sea day.

do u think DCL would put us somewhere unsafe:confused3

:headache:sorry about the horrible typing, it may get worsebfor better,,,,my carpal tunnel is acting up heavily and using left hand.

Just off the Fantasy this AM. Our cruise stopped in San Juan. It's now my 2nd favorite port (St John is still my favorite). It was amazing! The Sheraton hotel is right off of the pier and I mean right there. Super close. We are going to look into staying there as well. Actually, everything is close - the airport as well.

Ssanders79 is my DH and will be checking PMs & making FE updates this upcoming week. We have lots to catch up on!

Any questions, just ask!

Welcome home! I'd like to hear how you liked your cabin. I think I read on your DH's blog that you were going to be in 8188 - that's our cabin next week! :goodvibes Especially wondering if you had the loungers on the balcony. Thanks!

It was our second time in 8188 (we had it in Dec also) - 2 loungers, 3 chairs and a table!

what did u do in san juan that made u love it so much

are there other hotels very close to the port.......
i dunno ... the $ a night is a bit much for me,

is the hotel actually in walking distance if we had minimal luggage:rotfl2:

any thing u can reccomend doing in sj the day before or after

Glad you enjoyed your cruise and the stop in San Juan. We are looking at the Sheraton prior to this cruise but also looking at Hotel El Convento (that's a pricier option but I love the location and look of it).

Did you take any DCL excursions or did you just wander the old city on your own?

Thanks! :goodvibes

i would much rather spend the $ on excursions :confused3

but if it ends up being the best bet i may have to reconsider sheraton

Hi everyone....I still have a few pages to read to catch up with y'all. We will probably be flying in a day early. Not sure where to stay yet but I think we still have time.

Don't lie...you know the boys are going to make us stay at the YMCA. You can get yourself clean...you can have a good meal...

The hotel is in walking distance - literally right across the street.

I'll answer your San Juan question in my next post ;)

I've really gone to NOT do DCL excursions. We went on recommendations from our server, a gal I work with who was born in San Juan & lived there for 25+ years, & have recommendations for next time from a new friend at DCL in the ships.

We got off the ship after breakfast & went "left." Toured Old San Juan by foot (very hilly) & went into a few shops. Continued to one of the forts, El Morro. Amazing. Beautiful. Can't wait to go back.

Then, walked to Pier 2 & hopped the commuter ferry. For $1 pp round trip, it takes you across the water to another part of San Juan where we hopped a taxi for $3 pp and headed to the Bacardi distillery. Very fun!!!! The tour is free & you get 2 (small) free drinks. The tour is ~45 min long. Then, back on a taxi (7 min drive) to the commuter ferry and back to Pier 2.

San Juan is gorgeous. Lots of people are bilingual, which helped. I loved it. I will say, having iPhones was invaluable though.
