Oprah and fires and tornados, oh my!!! My goodness, looks like I picked a good night to check in. Not sure I understand the comment, or where that came from or the purpose of the comment, you have to know that it is going to stir the pot, some thoughts are better left in your own head.

Anyhoo, Jacobs party is over and all went well. Madagascar 2 was pretty good, some funny parts.

Stay safe everyone!!!

FIREFIGHTERS are battling two wind-whipped blazes in an exclusive California enclave that have threatened homes and forced 10,000 people to flee today.

A fire that erupted late on Friday on the northern outskirts of Los Angeles had burnt at least 10 homes, ripped through 1050ha and had prompted 10,000 residents to evacuate, authorities said.

The fire, near the community of Sylma, also forced the partial evacuation of a hospital and was threatening 1000 more homes, according to figures from the Los Angeles City Fire Department.

The cause of the fire was not yet known and at least one person had been seriously injured.

Local media reports said staff at the Olive View Medical Centre had to tend to patients on respirators using hand-operated pumps because of power outages.

Some infants and critically ill patients were transferred to other hospitals, but most remained "sheltered in place''.

The fire erupted as hundred of firefighters battled to get a grip on a blaze that tore through the celebrity haven of Montecito, 160 km north-west of Los Angeles on Thursday and Friday.

At least 100 homes had been gutted by the fire, which has burned about 730ha and was 40 per cent contained.

Montecito is popular with the super-rich, and celebrities such as talk-show queen Oprah Winfrey and Hollywood actors Michael Douglas, Jeff Bridges and Rob Lowe all own property in the area.

Lowe was among about 5000 residents who fled their homes on Thursday after flames driven by powerful local winds known as sundowners formed a firestorm that swiftly overwhelmed firefighters.

He told the Daily Mail: "We got in the car and pulled out of the driveway and the entire mountain behind us was in flames 200 feet high, shooting into the air."

"It was absolutely Armageddon."

So far the huge wildfire has destroyed at least 70 multi-million dollar mansions in the town.

There have been no reported fatalities but 13 injuries, including three suffering from burns and 10 suffering from smoke inhalation, according to figures from Santa Barbara County.

California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger declared a state of emergency in Santa Barbara County early on Friday.
