October Trip (10/01/02 - 10/09/02)
Cast: DH (me), DW, DS, DD

10/01 TUE UAL flight from DEN to MCO. Arrived at Polynesian ~ 5PM. Seemed just like Hawaii. Got our request for a non-smoking top floor at the Fiji building. Could see part of the lagoon & the Grand Floridian. Kids went swimming at the volcano pool. Watched MK fireworks at 8PM. Had dinner at 'Ohana, now our new favorite restaurant.
10/02 WED Went to Epcot around 9AM. The place was empty (Can you hear the echo?). Ate at the Garden Grill. Rode Energy Ride & Test Track with no wait. Went to MK to watch the fireworks.
10/03 THU Went to MK. Rode anything we wanted with less than a 10 minute wait. Went to Whispering Canyon for dinner. It was OK. We ate early at 5PM and things were not very lively. DD did ask for ketchup. Took the boat to MK. Watched the fireworks again.
10/04 FRI Went to AK. Actually spent the whole day there. Never stayed more than four hours previously. Breakfast at Restaurantosaurus. Rode the Triceratops Spin & Primeval Whirl. The kids liked them but I’m with those that think the carnival section just isn’t Disney (like Paradise Pier at Disneyland). Rode the Safari, Dinosaur, saw Tarzan Rocks, the Lion King, Flights of Wonder, Kali River Rapids, ITTBAB, and the parade. After AK closing went to MK. Rode all the Fantasyland rides in 30 minutes just before the fireworks.
10/05 SAT MGM Studios day. Breakfast at Hollywood & Vine. Rode about everything. First time for DS on RocknRoller Coaster. Of course, he wanted to go back on again. We did. Saw Spectromagic at night. Walked in around 7:40 and had great seats. Did the wave. Such a great show, but too intense for some youngsters. Saw several families leaving.
10/06 SUN Epcot day. So much to see. Dinner at Boma. Back for Illuminations at night.
10/07 MON AK in the morning to finish a few things. MK in the afternoon & evening.
10/08 TUE Last full day. Epcot & MK fireworks at night.
10/09 WED Checked out & stored luggage & went to MK for about 3 hours. MCO to DEN in the afternoon.

Summary: Lili must have kept people away. The first few weekdays were much less crowded than the last few weekdays. Had a 10 minute rain one day. Blessed with great weather. We never used the early entry but with such low crowds it didn’t matter. The big advantage was the later closing for MK. Seeing it after dark is special and we saw fireworks almost every night. Characters were everywhere. Kids just about filled their autograph books. I used to really like the buffets but that fills me for the whole day. Breakfast in the room with cereal that we brought and buying those tiny cartons of milk worked out. Eat a lunch buffet and we didn’t really need dinner. Polynesian was really nice but we just don’t hang around the room or resort much. The monorail is very convenient.
We still didn’t do everything. Not even a water park this time. We did buy APs. Maybe May or September 2003?

We don't spend so much time in our room either..but enjoyed cooling down with the pools each day....thanks so much for your report...I love Fantasmic too......

Great trip. Thanks for posting. You certainly did a lot everyday.

We were at MK on October 7 and found it VERY crowded, ok maybe not overly crowded but when the week before EVERYTHING was a walk on having to wait over an hour for Peter Pan was a bit dissapointing. We were kind of glad that it was our last week and not our first. All day we kept saying that we couldn't believe how crwoded it was.
