Oct. 12, 2013 - WONDERful cruise from Galveston

HMMM, I dont know what to do. We booked the marriott IAH as well despite bad reviews as we arrive late. Now im wondering if we should drive down to Galveston that night.

Is anyone else planning on going to Atlantis for the day when at Nassau?

I have always wanted to go, but the prices are outrageous. Reading the boards, it seems like a way to save some $$ with just a little extra effort is booking a room at the Comfort Suites hotel. Per hotel room you get 4 wrist bands/admissions to most of Atlantis.

They have a great deal now for $159++, total of $232. This would allow me to get 2 adults and 2 kids into Atlantis. I believe the shore excursion via Disney is $160/adult and $110/child, so over a 50% savings. The only additional charge by doing it on your own is taxi fare of $4/pp.

Has anyone successfully done this before that is going on this cruise? Seems like plenty of others on the board have, so I thought I would share and get any tips/advise.

Thanks!
We would love to join you! We were looking at doing the Atlantis excursion too. When you guys decide, please PM us as well.

I am still holding my Marriott IAH reservation for $118/night. (Try corperate weekend rates) The reviews don't look that bad. Once we figure out or flights and transportation then will decide what to do with rooms. Hoping to have flight done by End of the Month.

Does anyone have a recommendation for Hobby Hotel?

Four Points by Sheraton near Hobby is one of the better ones, though I will advise that Hobby too is not in a great neighborhood.

If you wanted a nice Houston area, The Galleria is a nice area, with many nice hotels (including a JW Marriott with a $139/night rate), a large shopping mall, gobs of restaurants, etc.

Airports are generally not in the nicest parts of towns. ;) I think my biggest concern with flying into Hobby is getting decent transportation back up from the port. Should be easy right? :confused3 Still working on flights.

Can't wait for the trip. Haven't figured out what we will do at each port.

We are flying into IAH and staying at the Hilton airport. Does anyone know if there's a liquor store nearby? We've love to pick up something before getting on the DCL bus the next day.

Thanks!

The best place by the airport is JFK Liquors: http://jfkliquor.com

The best stores in Houston for price and selection is Spec's, and there is one in Galveston. They are not too close to the airport, about 15 minutes.

Cheers!

We got our Planning guide from DCL yesterday. we can start booking excursions on 6/29 and haven't even though about what we want to do.

CC we will just do beach time because we don't get that here in Arizona.
Key West and Nassau? Not sure. Last time at those ports we just wandered on our own.

Key West, we have seen the Southern most point and the butterfly museum.
Nassau we went to the straw market and Atlantis.

Kind of wish this was the Caribbean for ports, but....

Has anyone every done a fishing charter out of Key West? Last time we were there we saw postings for same day 4 hr (1/2 day) trips at a reduced cost. As they say, a bad day fishing is better than a good day at work!

Thanks for sharing any info.

Hi all!

We just booked this cruise!! We're super excited. We have joining rooms, Cat 5B on Deck 6. My husband, and 2 kids (ages 5 & 1) will be in my room. And my mother-in-law (MIL) & brother-in-law (BIL) will be in the other room.

I'm wondering what side of the boat will face Cataway Cay? Our TA said it's Port side at Key West but he thought Starboard at the other two stops. Anyone know for sure??

THX! Happy to be cruising with you!

My husband and I are booked for Oct 12th, and we can not wait.
We are cruising with out kids, unless you count the kids in our hearts. This is our first DCL Cruise but we have cruised on other lines before. I can't wait to hear about all the tips you veterans have in store.

Hey guys! Im so excited to start my FEs. Do we know when we will get our list? I thought I had PM'd DRAMAMAMA but I don't think it went through. So excited to work on these!

I'm curious about the FE's too. We've never been on a Disney cruise before but I sort of get what the FE thing is about. I'm sure my 5 yr old boy would want to participate. And if he's getting stuff in his, I know my 1 yr old daughter will want stuff too. She'll actually be closer to 2 by the time we sail. Anyone else with a 5ish yr old boy and/or 2ish yr old girl? Or there abouts?

Is this fun for the kids at heart or is it mostly for the kids. Maybe if we split into a couple of groups we can have an adult FE :joker:
