Oceaneers Club - potty seats or toilets?

Hi all,
I am trying hard to toilet train my 3 year old boy before our Oct. cruise. He does a pretty good job on the potty - but will not sit on a regular toilet. I was wondering if I should bring my own potty seat to the cruise. Does anyone know what type of potty seats are available at the Oceaneers Club? I was hoping to put a pull up on him at the Club in case he gets excited and forgets to go or does not feel comfortable going in a normal toilet. I think I read that Pull Ups are not allowed. Any one know about the washroom?
Thanks in advance...

There are child size toilets, low to the ground but not like potty chairs. I don't know about pull-ups but you can always take him to the potty when you first arrive and check in every couple of hours to take him again if you think he might forget.

Pullups are ONLY allowed at night time, as the child may fall asleep there, and this makes it easier.

The toilets are great as the PP said. They are so tiny, and children generally do well. THe advice given about frequent bathroom breaks is great advice, add that to the fact that they go as soon as they enter, and hopefully it will be ok.

Good luck. :sunny:

Thanks Mamasita - noticed you are from Montreal. Salut!
I was born and raised in Montreal. Lived on the South Shore. Left in 1986.
Miss the "Joie de Vivre!"

Okay, bad mommy that I am, I bribed my little girl with a trip on the Mickey boat to potty train. I kept telling her that we were going on a trip to the Mickey boat, but she was only allowed to go if she could use the bathroom by herself. That and combined with the little toilets at Disneyland she did great. I couldn't get her to use the potty or toilet at home, but take her disneyland, and she spent half the time in the bathroom. "Mommy I think I have to go, we have to go to the little potties". I can't tell you how many times we walked from Small World or Splash mountian so she could go to the bathroom.

By the time we left she had been pretty good, but still had some accidents, probably once every few days. I was amazed that after the 9 days at WDW plus the cruise, plus 3 more days at WDW, she came home to pretty much having none.

That said my daughter had 2 minor accidents on the cruise. First was the first day, and she just missed the toilet (she was in the bathroom, but didn't make it all the way). Second time was actually that she hadn't wiped well enough and they happend to see a little bit on her underwear so made her go back and change before coming back. Both times I felt they handled it really well. She didn't seem to be embarressed, she was more upset that she had to leave, though they reassured there that as soon as she got cleaned up she could come right back. They had her sitting on a mat a bit off to the side with a CM sitting with her and talking to her. When we left they removed the sheet from the map and wiped up the map before putting it away.

I did the same thing with my son - don't worry.
I was afraid he would be in diapers forever!
I told him he cannot go on the Disney boat until he stops "dia-pees" and gets into underwear. I read him picture books with kid's on the potty and it worked. He is not interested in poo-ing in the potty. At night - I have him in pull ups. He was totally dry last night and I was thrilled.
Looks like Disney magic can even work for potty training too huh?
Still don't know what I will do in the stateroom. Might have to bring his little potty along...

I have been doing the same with my son. I told him that pull ups are not allowed on the Mickey mouse boat. I told him that he can't go to the clubs or pools unless he uses the toilet. It has worked a little bit ( he will pee on the toilet) but sometimes he doesn't want to tell anyone he has to go (especially if he is too busy having fun). I have no idea what I am going to do if he doesn't get going with this. On top of that he absolutely will not poop on the toilet.

anyone have any suggestions?

I was worried about our 3 yr old DD too. She needed to be potty trained to attend pre-school in the fall plus I wanted her to be able to participate in Kids Club on our October cruise. What worked for us is we took away the pull ups for a full weekend. She could only wear the cotton training pants or panties. We had to literally hide the pull ups or she would go and put them on herself. We purchased some Dora and Princess panties (she is a Princess fiend LOL). She had a few accidents during that weekend but by Sunday night she was going consistently on her own. It took a couple more weeks to get her comfortable with going to public restrooms - she was afraid of the loud flushing.

After our DD went consistently on the potty for a few days, we convinced her it was time to say goodbye to the potty and use the big girl toilet. I know this is corny but we sang " Nah Nah Nah Nah, Nah Nah Nah Nah, Hey Hey Hey, Good bye" and put the potty in the garage. She just giggled the whole time. :)

I tired buying my son every character immaginable for him but it still didn't work. I even printed out a picture of the guy cleaning the mickey pool after an "accident" and showed him that it is not fun to ave the pool emplied and cleaned because he doesn't want to go potty. sofar it hasn't worked. I don't know what I am going to do if he doesn't get with the program soon.

I actually told my daughter that I couldn't afford diapers and a cruise so she had to pick which one she wanted..she said "fine , I won't wear diapers anymore" took them off and from that day on she used the toilet. She was SO ready to actually use it but just was lazy and didn't want to make the change until forced into it!

For those of you whose kids don't like the flush of a regular toilet...make sure that they are not in the bathroom when the toilet on the ship is flushed!!!!!

Also, the CMs in the club have the kids go to the bathroom in the 3-4 yo group inbetween almost every activity. They know that kids don't want to miss out on any fun.

You know I am a bit worried about that because cruise ships toilets are extremely loud. We will just have to see, it took my eldest DD about a day to get used to the cruise ship toilets.

I bought a small Baby Bjorn one piece potty for my DD19mos and a fold up seat to go on the toilet that comes in a bag at Babies R US. We have a bigger one that she uses, but she's really getting a kick out of the smaller ones for the cruise. I'm very fortunate (well she's been going on the potty since 6 mos), but she won't go number 2 in her diaper, only on the potty. It's all she knows. I'm a HUGE advocate of early training. I guess whenever I'd change her diaper, I'd just sit her on it and we'd read. This subject always :goodvibes causes controversy, so I'll shut up now!!

Well since I read at least one post asking for suggestions/advice on how to get over the last bit of potty training... I will post about what we did with my son.

It sounds corny... but if you go to Dr Phil's website, he has some info on how to potty train your child in one day. I know, I didnt really believe it either. But I knew my son was ready, he just wasnt totally willing... It was one rough day for both of us, but it really was only one day. By that evening, he was going for the potty on his own, without having to be asked, and making it in time! He was sooo proud of himself and we were sooo proud of him.

So if you have tried "everything" or even if you haven't and are looking for some potty training help, check out Dr Phil. lol

Anyway my son is potty trained now. Has been for several months. We did the Dr Phil thing just after his 3rd birthday. He is really excited to get to go to the clubs with other kids his age and do "big kid" stuff.

Oh, a funny side effect to getting him trained so quickly and unexpectedly.... we have two unopened cases of diapers left over. lol They will be out in the yard sale before our move in a month! :cheer2:

I watched the show he did on that one. It had me ROFLMAO! :lmao: Wouldn't have worked with either of my kids.

The toilets in the oceaneers club have inserts hanging on that wall that the kids can use to make the opening smaller. Sort of like those folding potty seat toppers only these are 1 piece. I used them for my DS.

I know, like I said it sounded corny. lol But it worked for us. We didn't do the doll thing, because we knew he really understood how it was supposed to work. The repitition stuff was the key I think.... it's also what made it really rough. 9/10 times every time he peed his pants, all the while we were keeping him drinking lots of fluids to give lots of opportunity. LOL I gotta say that the "hero" phone call after his success was a clincher too though... He could not get over the fact that he talked to spiderman! :hyper: :goodvibes

Just keep remembering he won't go to college in diapers.

I had two stubborn trainers, and we postponed our initial cruise because my daughter wouldn't train, and is the type to have a hissy fit over no pool no club.

There are three things I know FOR SURE about potty training:

There is no one thing that works for every child.

No matter how much YOU want it, you can't do it for them.

The last thing you try will work.
