My daughter will be in that "transitional" age at the time of our cruise, 7 but within a couple of week sof her 8th bday. She is mature for her age, very well behaved and very nurturing when it comes to smaller kids, especially little girls. She's not really into video games yet.

My question is, since we have the option of enrolling her in either the OC or the OL, do any of you have an opinion on which to enroll her in? Also, is there any chance that we can try them both, if space allows?

Thanks!

You will have to choose an age group before you sign her up. Kids aren't allowed to float between two age groups for security reasons. You're best bet is to look at some navigators from each age group and decide which ones would be better suited for your DD. www.dcltribute.com should have some. Now, the 5 - 7 group does spend some significant time in the lab durng the evenings. Usually the 8 -9's are out at the movies during that time, so they move the 5 -7's in so they and the 3 - 4's can each do separate activities.

Our DD turned 8 while on the magic 2 years ago. We put her in the 8-9 group in the lab. I printed out kids navigators for her to look at. She preferred the activities for the 8-9. We are going again in 2 weeks and she will be turning 10 on the cruise. She's decided to be with the 10-12 years because of the activities and they get to go swimming at the pool.

wendyk -- thanks for sharing your experience. I'm not looking to flip flop between two clubs during the cruise, just trying to decide which would be a better fit and if they'd let us switch her during the cruise if she decided she didn't like the one we signed her up for. I hope you have a great time on your cruise and that your DD has a great 10th bday!!!

Seems like I have seen a post that indicates they will allow one move to another group, but then that's where they have to stay. I have the same situation with my 7 year old in April. She seems to be very similar to your daughter (mature, well behaved and plays well really with all age groups). I personally have decided to stick with the 5-7. I guess I would rather her be with 5 year olds that almost 10 year olds. I also hope to talk my husband into rebooking and then she could be in the 8-9 group then and have some different activities...HTH

When we sailed last November our friend's 7 y.o. DS was moved up to the 8-9 group by the counselors because he was bored to tears w/the 5-7's and never wanted to be in the club (constantly paging his parents). There was room in with the older kids and he hardly wanted to leave the clubs after that :cool1:

Our daughter will just turn 5 right before our cruise. But I know she would be bored to death with the 3-4 year olds quickly. I figure the 5-7 year olds will keep her interest much better (and shouldn't be too much trouble :-) Our daughter has always attended Preschool and will start Kindegarten in the fall. She loves being with other kids and the 5-7 will definitely be where she wants to be.

I really wish they would separate the 7 year olds from the 5-7 group. My seven year old was bored to tears in her group and they let us switch her to the 8-9 group. She did really well in the older group. There's just big differences between a 5 year old and a 7 year old, and she wanted to do more than color and play dress up. Just like the "big 2's" that get restless and bored in Flounders Reef. I couldn't leave my son in there for more than an hour and he was done. I understand they can't please everyone, so I'm ok with it. At least they are a little flexible.

They will allow ONE move durring the cruise...but only one..If she is moved up or down...that's where she'll have to stay. I think sometimes when you ask the counslers..their not that clear on explaining it...But once their moved they don't like to move them back.
