Has anyone done the OBX Half or Full Marathon? I live in NC and think I may try this next year. The bridge doesn't look too fun, but the scenery is gorgeous!!!

Also wanted to point out that it looks very walker friendly. They say that for the Full, you need to maintain a pace of 17:10. You pretty much half to cross the bridge by a certain time because they close it...

This race looks awesome! I  the Outer Banks. We're headed up there in 4 weeks for a week at a beach house. with the generous pace requirement it would probably be a good 1st marathon to do. Also... Free beer!!:woohoo: :drinking1 :drinking1 (after properly hydrating yourself post race of course!)

Stacie - This was originally on my must do list for this year, but I'm doing City of Oaks instead. Pushing this one to 2010... Lots of my Galloway friends have done OBX - most of them really liked it, but there are apparently a couple of long boring stretches, and my group leader didn't like the fact that there are several different surfaces. I don't think you actually run on the beach, but there is some wooded area that's mostly dirt. I definitely want to do this one eventually!

I've done the half a couple of times.

The only complaint I had (last year) was the medal was tiny -- really tiny -- but the location more than makes up for that. I love the lighthouses, attractions, etc. I'm pretty sure I put it in my post in the "favorite races" or "recommended races" thread we had a long time back.

I'm actually hoping to go this year as well -- for the half if I do the City of Oaks full, or for the full if I do the City of Oaks half.

I'm sure there are loads of concerns if you have an aggressive time goal -- the portion on the trail that Jackie mentioned, the twists and turns on the streets at the end, the bridge (which really is not bad at all -- and I really do poorly on hills) near the end -- but for those of us who just enjoy doing the races, I would recommend this one. Pretty good community support, laid back time limits, and such a great place to spend the weekend!

This looks like such a pretty place to do a run! Might have to slot in for next year.
