OBC and money on your cabin

Quick question: with Disney I would sent a fax to put "spending money" on our cabin. With Carnival, I would buy "cruise cash"...

How do you put money/OBC on your cabin with RCCL?

I would call and ask. I mean, TAs can put OBC onto your account so I can’t see why this wouldn’t be possible.

You mean, take the money on my credit card in order to put it on my account? That was part of my options but since I like to put a little credit on my account once in a while, I'd prefer to do it gradually instead of all at once (I just save more money when I do it this way).

For birthdays and holidays, my sister and I buy gift certificates from Royal's website for my parents. The stipulation on these is you need to load them onto your account at least a week prior to the cruise. Once loaded they can be used for onboard spending. Keep careful logs of all transactions. My dad has discovered some missing (thankfully he always tries to add them well before the cruise, so he can make sure everything is accounted for).

That’s actually a really good idea. You could purchase RC gift cards through Target. If you have a Target Red Card, you can get 5% off the purchase of the RC gift cards.

If I'm not mistaken, those are different and can't be used the same. Check the wording on them before you buy them. I know people in the past people have bought Royal Caribbean gift cards on gift card granny only to find out they are very restricted on how they can be used (new bookings directly through RCCL, for example, and not for onboard credit). The ones on Royal's site CAN be used for onboard credit. I don't know what restrictions the Target ones have. After reading such bad experiences, I only buy through the RCCL site.

I haven't done it myself but did read that you can call to add OBC to your account. The benefit for Canadians as well is that you can add in CAD, however it varies whether that is a better deal. They should give you an exchange rate when you call. They used to lock it in for a period of time, but I'm not sure if they still do that.
