Obama supporters! - A positive place to talk about his campaign

It's out there. He does need to address it. I don't think it's an issue for him as long as he does so.

Agreed. I said last night in the Pastor thread that I hope Obama comes out today with a statement. He needs to address this today without letting it go on for days.

I don't think so either. A lot of people attend churches where they don't agree with their pastors. I did for years. :rotfl:

I was watching Dan Abhrams last night and yes Obama NEEDS to do something about this. Wright is involved in his campaign on the sipirtual board. Obama HAS to have him step down.

The one thing as an Obama supporter I have been able to say is that he stands by what he says and will not play that kind of politics. While the comments of Wright were not specifically geared towards Hillary the way Ferraro's comments were... they are still very racist and Obama has to get that out of his campaign.

He can still stay friends and all that but Wright should have no direct contact with the campaign. This will kill Obama to those that are undecided.

From what I've seen, most of the outrage is coming from people who wouldn't vote for him if he was the only choice-so I'm not sure about that.

They're the ones raising hell but many others are listening. Believe me, they're listening. I've heard from a few and there are millions of others out there. They're on the fence about voting for him anyway and this will shove them away from him. He has got to strongly move away from Wright.

Time to share some good news!

Obama Cuts Into Clinton's Delegate Lead Among Elected Officials
Barack Obama has pulled almost even with Hillary Clinton in endorsements from top elected officials and has cut into her lead among the other superdelegates she's relying on to win the Democratic presidential nomination.

Among the 313 of 796 superdelegates who are members of Congress or governors, Clinton has commitments from 103 and Obama is backed by 96, according to lists supplied by the campaigns. Fifty-three of Obama's endorsements have come since he won the Jan. 3 Iowa caucuses, compared with 12 who have aligned with Clinton since then.

``That's not glacial, that is a remarkable momentum,'' Senator Claire McCaskill of Missouri, a superdelegate and Obama supporter, said in an interview. ``I don't think there is anything that will slow that down.''

Pretty much. The same people who are trying to make Rezko a household name.:lmao: :rotfl:

He does need to address this, though.

Yep - as an Obama SUPPORTER I am outraged that he is not doing more to distance himself from this. Does this mean I will change my vote.. no. But it is still the issue of "do I say not as I do" that a lot us were comlaining about just two days ago about Hillary.

My mother who is a diehard Republican is thinking about voting for him because of the things I have been able to show her about his stance on issues and that he is a stand up guy. If he doesn't address this definitively and quick.. it will give his opponents something to say "see he is no different."

I just went to Obama's website. There's a decent amount of chatter about the ex-pastor....So I think we can feel confident the campaign is aware there's an issue that needs to be addressed.

If they're not aware by now, they're blind, deaf and dumb. Once that video hit GMA yesterday, it was officially an issue.

He's going to have to do some serious dancing to stop the demonization from the other side.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing. It seems that some folks want to give Barack a pass on the same kind of thing they would crucify Hillary or McCain for.

As for outraged, I'm not sure what I personally think. I grew up on the South side of Chicago back in the 60's and 70's and I have an understanding of the Chicago black community that other folks may not have. For instance, I am not outraged by black pride and I do not consider it racism. I know that some people will disagree with me, but c'est la vie.

My main question is: were these problem sermons "cherry picked" out many or did Wright always say inflammatory things? For instance, they had to go all the way back to September 2001 to find one (and I kinda agree with him on much of what he said then :rolleyes1).

One of the MSNBC reporter's has said she has gone to this church on a few occasions, and of the times she went she did not see these types of sermon's. Apparently they were cherry picked, but, Obama has to come out on this issue personally to say something.... I feel he will, we'll see by day's end.

Of course it was cherry picked. FWIW, I didn't think Ferraro's statements were that big of a deal, and I take no glee in watching Hillary get raked over the coals. Each time Obama or Hillary get's knocked down, it is McCain who comes out on top.

I didn't either. I totally agree with you about McCain.

I thought Ferraro's comment was stupid, but I didn't think it was racist. Just more of the "poor me, I'm a woman" stuff that I get annoyed with.

OMG....that picture!!! :rotfl2: How did they ever get the cat to do that?

Q: I don't know if you've seen it, but it's all over the wire today (from an ABC News story), a statement that your pastor (the Rev. Jeremiah Wright of Trinity United Church of Christ on Chicago's South Side) made in a sermon in 2003 that instead of singing "God Bless America," black people should sing a song essentially saying "God Damn America."

A: I haven't seen the line. This is a pastor who is on the brink of retirement who in the past has made some controversial statements. I profoundly disagree with some of these statements.

Q: What about this particular statement?

A: Obviously, I disagree with that. Here is what happens when you just cherry-pick statements from a guy who had a 40-year career as a pastor. There are times when people say things that are just wrong. But I think it's important to judge me on what I've said in the past and what I believe.
