Just imagine if it were a Republican.

So what is the rule today? Are stupid Republican comments on or off the table?

"We finally cleaned up public housing in New Orleans. We couldn't do it, but God did."
Republican Rep. Richard Baker

"These are not bad people. All they are concerned about is to see that their sweet little girls are not required to sit in school alongside some big overgrown Negroes." -- President Eisenhower

Wow, guess you don't watch many news shows. How about Mattews, Carville, fill in the blank with pretty much any hollywood nutjob.

I personally don't watch any of them. John Stewart and Steven Colbert are my 2 vices though :rotfl:

I understand people put their feet in their mouths every now and again, but it doesn't change the fact that it's still a stupid, insensitive, and ignorant comment. He needs to apologize for it.

I read somewhere he apologized before the show even aired...

Ok, I voted for Obama. What offended me about the whole situation was the fact that he was sitting there on THE TONIGHT SHOW. I mean WTH? I don't need to see my President on Leno's couch 2 months after being sworn in to office. It just makes peoples' "rock star" claims about him seem all the more true. I hope that is our last comedy routine for some time to come.

I turn most of this stuff off - Rush gets most of the press though so he's right out there. I'll have to watch some of this stuff and maybe get an education.

What I'm upset about now though is how slow the boards are - hopefully tonight's upgrade will fix that! :cool1:

True, and his comment was nowhere CLOSE to anything Rush or Anne have said. He was not intentional about putting anyone down except himself. It was a self-deprecating comment about his own ability to bowl. Unfortunate choice, in fact should bring an apology BUT intentionally outrageous it was not. Now, had he dressed up in Special Olympics T-shirt and mocked a disabled person's behavior...or dressed in a fighter pilot's uniform and landed on an aircraft carrier...

But again, neither Rush or Anne are President. They are political pundits whose job it is to rile people up, and based on most of the commentary here, they do a good job. I have no expectation that Rush or Anne are going to say anything worth hearing. I do have the expectation that the President is going to say a lot that is worth hearing. Since most folks think Rush and Anne are *********, for you all to keep constantly comparing what they say to what the President says seems like an apples to oranges comparison. I don't lump the President into the same category as Rush and Anne....I think he' smuch better than that, and I think we have the right to expect him to be much better than that. Frankly, I think every time someone posts "Well, President Obama may have said "X", but Rush and Anne said "Y"..you are doing a grave disservice to President Obama. What you are implying is that I shouldn't think my President could be any better than 2 loud-mouthed, obnoxious political pundits.

FWIW...and I am speaking as the "aunt by love if not by blood" to a very darling wonderful Down Syndrome child and as a person who did not vote for President Obama...while I think his comment was unfortunate, it is not the end of the world, I do not think he intended to insult special needs folks, I do think he is human and will make missteps, he has apologized, I am quite sure he is very sorry, for a number of reasons, that the words ever left his mouth!

But please stop comparing my President to Rush & Anne.

Slips like that, when uncommon, are to me disappointing but no reason to flip out. Bush often said funny things just because of syntax errors, but it wasn't anything I got mad at. Coulter on the other hand is a spiteful hellbound wench who spouts hatered constantly.

Anne Coulter is not an elected official. She represents no one but herself. I think she's smart as a whip and often hilarious but admit she takes it way too far sometimes. But that's what she's there for. If she were just another pundit, she'd be wouldn't be where she is today. She is booked on these shows with the intent to shock and ruffle feathers. Judging by how many people hate her, she does her job well.

I enjoy it when Anne is booked on a show because I know she is going to make everyone uncomfortable, regardless of political party. I enjoy watching some of those stuffed shirts squirm.

He reached more people (especially those in the younger demographic) on the Tonight Show than he would Meet the Press or 60 Minutes.

I think its great that he is communicating directly to the American people in a variety of ways.

There's 60 Minutes tomorrow and a press conference some time next week.

Different avenues + different types of questions = more information.

NEW YORK — Nielsen is giving high approval ratings to President Barack Obama's appearance on NBC's "Tonight Show."

Obama's visit with Jay Leno, the first by a sitting president, scored an 11.2 rating in metered-market households. That's the highest number since January 2005, when "Tonight" paid tribute to the late Johnny Carson. The last time "Tonight" logged a higher rating was following the "Seinfeld" finale in May 1998.

Thursday's telecast nearly tripled the show's season-average 3.9 household rating.

These preliminary numbers measure Nielsen households in 56 U.S. markets.

You know what pisses me off? That Conservatives think the economy was just fine before Barack Obama got here. The economy SUCKED ***! He's only been president for a few months, and you're expecting him to fix the economy in a FEW MONTHS?!?! It's like a joke! Conservatives just try to find reasons for disliking Obama in every corner they can find. Even if it doesn't even make sense. Some of you on the DIS even said "his name is foreign and foreign people are the enemy". Sorry, but even I have enough of a grasp of the economy and politics to know that no one person, Liberal or not, can fix the economy so quickly. I don't like him that much (he's not quite liberal enough... actually not at all) but it's just ridiculous how much people are bashing him after being in office for such a short time.

The President after Shrub was going to get the short end of the stick no matter who they were. His administration messed up things so badly that it is going to take a very long time for things to get halfway back to normal.

The “rock star” cracked jokes for most of his 45 minute appearance ..err I mean segment. (show biz talk).;)

When he was asked a question by Leno he didn’t answer it..did he????.

MR. LENO: Well, here's something that kind of scared me. Today they passed this thing that says we're going to tax 90 percent of these bonuses. And the part that scares me is, I mean, you're a good guy -- if the government decides they don't like a guy, all of a sudden, hey, we're going to tax you and then, boom, and it passes. I mean, that seems a little scary as a taxpayer, they can just decide -- you want to take a break and answer that when we come back? Okay, hold that answer.

MR. OBAMA: I will. I've got a good answer, too. (Applause.)

MR. LENO: Welcome back. We are talking with President Barack Obama.

Before the break I mentioned that they had just passed this new bill which will tax them 90 percent -- and I said it was frightening to me as an American that Congress, whoever, could decide, I don't like that group, let's pass a law and tax them at 90 percent.

MR. OBAMA: Well, look, I understand Congress' frustrations, and they're responding to, I think, everybody's anger. But I think that the best way to handle this is to make sure that you've closed the door before the horse gets out of the barn. And what happened here was the money has already gone out and people are scrambling to try to find ways to get back at them.

The change I'd like to see in terms of tax policy is that we have a system, going back to where we were back in the 1990s, where you and I who are doing pretty well pay a little bit more to pay for health care, to pay for energy, to make sure that kids can go to college who aren't as fortunate as our -- as my kids might be. Those are the kinds of measured steps that we can take. But the important thing over the next several months is making sure that we don't lurch from thing to thing, but we try to make steady progress, build a foundation for long-term economic growth. That's what I think the American people expect. (Applause.)

Wow a voice of reason . . . with a good point.

Well, one of his financial advisors thinks the economy is "fundamentally sound" *after* him being in office for 3 months.

Sidenote: What would be "liberal" enough? :confused3 Suppose you were President.
