Wow do some posters have nothing else to do but scan and look around for something/anything to complain about and blame on Obama? I mean, really it gets very old

That post at the beginning about the unemployment rates etc..do you really think in the short time he has been President he caused all that? Do some have no concept of time ???

You seem to conveniently keep ignoring the fact that Obama didn't make fun of the abilities of those who are in The Special Olympics....he was making fun of himself...

He made fun of himself by comparing his mediocre bowling to the Special Olympics. How is that complimentary to participants in the Special Olympics?

It was an insensitive thing to say but I have no doubt he didn't mean it to denigrate anyone involved in Special Olympics, it was simply a case of open mounth, insert foot. Like the previous President did on more than one occasion and like many of us do on a daily basis. No more, no less.

I also have no doubt that a good majority of people here would have the exact opposite opinion they now hold if his last name was (R).

Indeed, the original poster has started several threads about President Obama's remarks on Leno. I have not seen the show. I do not need to. As the original poster quotes each utterance by President Obama made on Leno(over the next few days) I would have read all of the 45 minute interview.

BBC World News showed clips from the Tonight Show appearance ... plenty of crummy jokes, but not the prime example of why this guy needs his teleprompter

You know, the whole disagreement is ludicrous in general.

I like potatos and waffles. Someone should find a way to create a potato waffle hybrid and then send it to Darfur to help stave off the starvation and strife. That's what they should invent on Jay Leno.

Right-O

The real difference between Obama and Bush is that Obama made an offensive joke about the Special Olympics but Bush could qualify to participate in the Special Olympics!

Ok, seriously I just couldn't help myself. People say things all the time they wish they could take back, both dems and repubs. Heck, if I had a nickle for every time I said something I wish I hadn't I could probably own an island in the Bahamas!! :lmao:

He messed up, he apologized....let's get on with fixing this country!!

You seem to conveniently keep ignoring the fact that Obama didn't make fun of the abilities of those who are in The Special Olympics....he was making fun of himself. He used a poor choice of words to do it, which he has acknowledged and apologized for, personally, to the head of the Special Olympic committee. The apology was graciously accepted. What more do you want?

You really don't expect to change any of the cons mind with this kind of sensible logic do you? :lmao: :lmao:

SSDD is right. I'm willing to bet dollars to doughnuts that if George Bush made this same remark, you would be at the head of the line screaming for his head. You can deny it and I won't call you a liar, but I won't believe you.

Good to see the same old lines posted day after day.

I'm not a con but thanks for thinking I'm one, I take that as a compliment ;)

Hey did BO ever release his grade transcripts from college and law school?

Seems another famous DEM who everyone considered leagues ahead of President Bush in the smart’s department didn’t release his transcripts until way after his defeat. It turned out that he Kerry had far worse grades than President Bush. Go figure!

It appeared to me that he was comparing his "abilities" to those who are in the Special Olympics, so by making fun of "himself" he was making fun of them. Big deal apologizing to the head of the committee, that is just for press.
Does not change the fact that he is the President of the United States and he sat on National television and made fun of people with mental and physical handicaps who give their all to compete. :sad2:

Maybe I just don't get it, but I don't understand the Special Olympic humor.:confused3

:scared1: Oh the horror of it all! The outrage! :sad1: How cruel! :guilty: How inhuman! :sad2: How did that man get to be President of the United States!

Those are the same questions that I ask myself everyday.

He should apologize in the same place that he made the gaffe- in front of the millions who watched him do it instead of taking the sneaky Eddie Haskell hide behind the fence way he did it.

And so it continues, did his election cause the his foot in mouth disease to spread among his supporters?

From CNN's Lauren Kornreich

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin said she was 'shocked' to hear President Obama's offhand comment referring to the Special Olympics in an appearance on the Tonight Show on Thursday night.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin said she was "shocked" to hear President Obama's offhand comment referring to the Special Olympics in an appearance on the Tonight Show on Thursday night.

"This was a degrading remark about our world's most precious and unique people, coming from the most powerful position in the world," Palin said in a statement released Friday. "These athletes overcome more challenges, discrimination and adversity than most of us ever will. By the way, these athletes can outperform many of us and we should be proud of them. I hope President Obama's comments do not reflect how he truly feels about the special needs community."

Palin's son, Trig, has Down Syndrome.
