I just saw a report that Obama made some kind of joke about his bowling scores and the Special Olympics.

Great not only does he go on a comedy show in the midst of “the worst economy since the Great Depression” he now jokes about the Special Olympics.

I wonder if it will air or will his WH thugs stop it.

It would have been nice if the President visited a Vet Hospital or something on the 6th anniversary of the start of the Iraq war instead of laughing it up with Jay.

:sad2:

Ooops!

President Obama Jokes About Being a Bad Bowler: 'It's Like the Special Olympics'
March 19, 2009 8:56 PM

The first appearance by a sitting president on "The Tonight Show" may well end up being the last.

President Obama, in his taping with Jay Leno Thursday afternoon, attempted to yuk it up with the funnyman, and ended up insulting the disabled.

Towards the end of his approximately 40-minute appearance, the president talked about how he's gotten better at bowling and has been practicing in the White House bowling alley.

He bowled a 129, the president said.

"That's very good, Mr. President," Leno said sarcastically.

It's "like the Special Olympics or something," the president said.

When asked about the remark, the White House said the president did not intend to offend.

"The president made an off-hand remark making fun of his own bowling that was in no way intended to disparage the Special Olympics," White House deputy press secretary Bill Burton said. "He thinks the Special Olympics is a wonderful program that gives an opportunity for people with disabilities from around the world."

Charlie! You idiot! Don't you know that its all about him? Our President doesn't have the time for such frivolities. Get a clue. ;)

I agree. :sad2:

This coming from people who supported a President who made jokes about
looking for WMD under his desk:sad2:

I saw that same report but, since I haven't seen the Tonight show I only reported on the Drudge headline about Obama's being "shocked" by the AIG bonuses. If it's true that would be the kind of remark that would cause a firestorm if a Republican said it. Since it was a Democrat this is probably the most important news forum we'll read about it in.

On a side note, i was just reading about Special Olympics bowlers, the winning score was 237 so maybe he was just bragging about how good he was.

I'm not a fan of Obama's policies, but I find this rather innocuous. The guy was just trying to ham it up and shooting off the cuff. I found it funny and I'm as right wing as they come.;)

Edited: I also found the constant "magnifying glass" that Bush was under, to be ridiculous, and just libs looking for anything to attack him on. I see this the same way, but I understand "what is good for the goose, is good for the gander".

:scared1: Oh the horror of it all! The outrage! :sad1: How cruel! :guilty: How inhuman! :sad2: How did that man get to be President of the United States! We should impeach him!

Even if you try to keep an open mind as everyone of his supporters have asked us to do he tries really hard to find ways to loose respect everyday doesn't he? Quit campaigning for prom king already! Has he forgotten we have the worse economy ever or whatever line he used to get the spending bill passed. Now its off to town hall meetings and laughing it up with Jay. This is what happens when the president is completely unqualified and inexperienced for the job.

I volunteered a few weeks back with the Special Olympics Bowling. I have to say that it was one of the most rewarding and humbling experiences I have ever had.

I worked with the severely disabled who needed the little slide to roll the ball down. Their little faces....:goodvibes

So, I won't comment on the President's comment, but just remember those great kiddos.

I understand people put their feet in their mouths every now and again, but it doesn't change the fact that it's still a stupid, insensitive, and ignorant comment. He needs to apologize for it.

And it's hilarious to me to see some of the reporters who would've ripped Bush to shreds if he had said this trying to spin, spin, spin this stupid comment away. Spare me the hypocrisy, please. If Bush had said this, it'd be all over the news endlessly. Maybe this will be too, but I somehow doubt that. :sad2:

Yes, I'm sure those WMD feelings are really hurt. We'll have to see who feels more slighted, the WMDs or the parents & family of the Special Olympians, as well as the Olympians themselves.

Glibly comparing your bad bowling score to the skills of those who are physically or mentally challenged is okay with you?

So, you are on board with a man lucky enough to have two beautiful, perfect daughters making a belittling remark about those children and young adults who face more challenges every day of their lives than he could even imagine?

Also, being embarrassed and ashamed for him has nothing to do with anyone else's shortcomings; these are his personal prejudices. But, for the record, you will never find me agreeing with Bush (if that is to whom you are referring). Another poster attempted to take that same tactic and failed miserably.

I thought it was by cheating. Acorn anyone? Caucuses? Hillary bashing?:confused3
