Have you ordered the oatmeal at Captain Cooks? Is it plain? do they serve it with fruit and brown sugar? Was it any good?

I know, it is vacation at Disney but I prefer to eat oatmeal every day. I was thinking about packing some Bob's Red Mill oats in my bags but then I realized I'd need a big microwave safe bowl and it turned into a project.
My husband said I should just deal and eat a Mickey Waffle and some Tonga Toast! :rotfl2:

Your husband is right but that said it seems like most places have oatmeal - some even have steel cut oats as an option. I would guess it does not come with fruit. I would guess it comes with a packet, spoon and bowl and you add hot water to it yourself. Maybe I am overly cynical though :) of course you can buy fruit separately. not sure about brown sugar but interested to know :)

There's certainly some oatmeal on property. I think Cape May and The Wave both have oatmeal. We've only had Captain Cooks once and I can't remember if they have oatmeal.

I tend to agree with your husband. Unless you have dietary restrictions, you should live a little and enjoy yourself at Disney. I eat healthy about 80% of the year. It's a lifestyle - I've lost around 90 pounds in my lifetime and I plan to keep it off. I lose weight and then I put some back on in muscle. It's a long cycle. Anyway - going into Disney I always "spot" myself 5-10 pounds by losing it in the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas. It's very hard because it's the holidays, but I know I'll be eating a ton for that week during Christmas. Between all the walking and staying active, I rarely gain more than 2-3 pounds.

But, I also understand people just like to eat healthy year-round. That's your choice and all the power to you. Here's an idea - why not take the styrofoam cup from your room (the kind they give you for coffee) and either run hot water through the coffee maker or bring it down to Captain Cooks and fill it with hot water like you're making tea. Then pour it over your oatmeal! You can always bring some dried fruit and brown sugar down with you, or just pick up a banana. - You can even do the oatmeal in the cup and take it to-go!

Hope that helps!

I also like oatmeal for a quick breakfast. And you are right - I does become a project! o_O I was considering bringing some oatmeal packets from home and buying a microwave safe bowl in the parks that I could take home as a souvenir for this very purpose.

I will live a little - in fact quite a lot! We'll be eating at Crystal Palace, Be Our Guest, 1900 Park Faire, O'hana among lots of other great places. I'll likely have a pretzel, churro or Mickey Bar every day. At home I do eat right 80% of the time, at Disney I was trying to go for 20%! The oatmeal they serve in the concierge lounges is usually pretty decent and of course they have fruit there.
I may just mix my oats with yogurt and have overnight oatmeal.
Someone must have ordered the oatmeal! :) or perhaps they'll look at me like I have three heads when I do. Then I'll just order the Tonga Toast!
Thanks!

OP, I'm not laughing! I love oatmeal for breakfast too. I get tired of the uber sweet offerings for breakfast, and don't like egg dishes at all.
So, I would love to find some oatmeal serving places too,but where we stay doesn't have it, so I go with the flow while at Disney. I feel your pain:headache:

Thinking, thinking, thinking, thinking. I can't remember if I have or haven't, I do like oatmeal and eat it a lot at home and when travelling but I'm kind of lazy and just eaten the kind you empty in a bowl and add boiling water. I grew up on the real kind, my daddy would make a pot in the morning before he left for work and by the time I got out of bed and was ready to eat it was like eating paste so I kind of like that I can just pour and go. Anyway, they do have microwaves in all the food courts and probably (I could be wrong about this so don't trust me) have the little styrofoam bowls as well. If they don't and you are in a moderate or deluxe, do as the other poster suggested and use the cup from your room. If you are in a moderate or a deluxe, there will be a coffee pot in your room, thus hot water and a cup, so if you can bring yourself to use the packet kind, you can even make it that way. I'm guessing you could buy something in just about all the resort gift shops to make it in as well, you'll pay a fortune but it will be a cute souvenir (can't begin to tell you how many cork screws and hair ties I've bought through the years).

If you're set on oatmeal, I'd definitely go the overnight oats route. Then you can have that first thing and splurge a little for something tasty without having to fill up on it.

I hope that didn't insult you! Overnight oats are delicious- you can certainly go that route!

What about just bringing instant and using the coffee maker for hot water? Am I missing something?

I've never ordered the oatmeal at Captain Cooks but based on the online menu it is a kids portion.

I have had oatmeal at the sit down restaurants and buffets and they often have something that goes with it. If the Captain Cooks portion isn't good you can always try Kona Cafe in the morning. Most oatmeal I remember having dried fruit but we usually do buffet breakfasts.

I find the oatmeal they offer for breakfast at Disney to typically be too "goopy" for me. I do quick healthy breakfasts at Disney all the time, typically granola bars or a quick bowl of cereal though. What accommodations are you staying in? You would have everything you need if staying in a villa for instand packets. Otherwise, the food court should have what you need, if they don't I'm sure they will happily give you disposable bowls etc so you can make yourself! I wouldn't worry too much about it honestly, you'll find a way :)

I see that now - didn't look at the kids menu. I'll try it and if that doesn't work I'll order some stuff through amazon prime now.

I know Quaker makes individual microwaveable oatmeal cups--they are a little pricey, but have fancy fruit and nut flavors. This would eliminate the need for a microwavable bowl at least.

I always get oatmeal at Cpt. Cooks! There is no brown sugar but my wife suggested I use maple syrup...and it was really good. I get it every chance I get.

I'm the same way. I eat steel cut oats everyday. At home, I make a huge pot and once it's cooled, I put individual servings into ziplock bags and freeze for the mornings that I have to work. When we went to Disney in March, I put them in a little cooler with other odds and ends for the family and packed it in my suitcase. Once there, I kept them in the fridge. It was perfect.
