Oak Alley needs help

What happened to the one called The White Castle of Louisiana? I forgot it's real name, but remember going there and it being right on the river...

The "white castle" is Nottoway Plantation. I'm sure they're seeing the same sort of severe downturn in visitors.

Because it's closer to Baton Rouge, I believe they were lucky enough to escape any serious damage from both Katrina & Rita, so they're more than ready for tourists.

All the Plantations got daily visite from the Riverboat cruise ships-that has halted as they departed from NO...Oak Alley was close enough to NO that most visitors & Convention-goers took a trip there-it is one busy place-the tours were run too quickly, IMO.

Personally, I love SanFransisco, because it is very unique-with hand painted wall murals that are amazing!

I did bus tours to all of these plantations when I lived on the west bank. They are all beautiful. It's so sad to think that they may not survive now due the the economic backlash of the hurricanes. :( SanFran house is very colorful. I like that one too.

FWIW, I very recently stayed at Oak Alley (Thanksgiving Weekend) and the place is still beautiful. The cabins are spaciuos and the grounds are immaculate.

If you are ever anywhere near the place or even if you are not it is well worth making a trip just to stay there. There is a great dal of history there and it makes a great photographic background for family pics, etc.

I was born about 20 minutes from Oak Alley (I now live in Texas) and the place remains one of my most favorte places to visit.
