Headed to Aulani in a few weeks. Are there any better rental car companies over the others? I know a lot of people have recommended Hawaiian Discount Car rentals or Costco but didn't know if there was one company better than the others or any to stay away from. (like Alamo, Enterprise, etc) Also does anyone know how far away from the airport they are? I know Alamo says you take a shuttle. Thanks!

Aloha Amw1064! On our Hawaii trips, we almost always find our best rental car prices through either Costco Travel or www.discounthawaiicarrental.com. We stick with the major companies. Personally I like Alamo, but I'll book any of the "biggies" for the right price. All rental companies are off airport property in HNL. You just go outside of the baggage area to catch a shuttle to your chosen company. It's a very short drive. Have fun!!

One great thing about both companies (Costco and DHCR), is that they very often offer 2nd driver free. You just have to make certain to LOOK before you book. Read the fine print. :sunny:

We are booked Alamo through Costco for a week starting May 29. I had $217 for a full size car and kept rechecking the rates. It finally dropped again a couple days ago and I was able to get for $169. I was hoping for under $200 so I was pretty happy!

Thanks everyone. I keep checking to see if mine have dropped and this morning it had. Ours is for 11 days but right around $300. I will keep watch to see if it goes down more. Right now I have Alamo booked through Costco for $306 and Dollar booked through the Hawaiian one for $271. This is the reason for my post. I didn't know if one was better than the other.

Between those 2 companies, I would keep whatever's cheapest! And be sure to watch for the "free" (included) driver if that's something you need. I always book my cars for Hawaii WAY in advance, even a year in advance. I find the cheapest car I want and book it. Then I keep checking and almost always the price goes down. ALMOST always……whale season on Maui, sometimes not.
