Husband interviewing for job in GA, in Kennesaw to be exact. Looking at areas for a potential place to live and came across John's Creek and Alpharetta. Just hoping to hear from anyone who may live there or in the surrounding area. How is the cost of living? Average home cost? And most importantly the schools...public and private. I hope it's as nice as it looks on line but you know never. TIA!

I used to live in Johns Creek. It is not easy to get from there to Kennesaw. They are not close to each other. It would take almost an hour, not in traffic. Traffic all around Atlanta is horrendous. During rush hour, it would be close to 1.5 hours each way! Don't do it!

Your husband DOES NOT want to commute from Alpharetta to Kennesaw every day. It would be a traffic nightmare - well over an hour each way. I live a few miles from Kennesaw, in Marietta GA. There are lots of great areas in Cobb county with terrific schools for you to choose to live :)

If you choose to live in Cobb County (where Kennesaw is), look for houses in these school districts:

Harrison
Allatoona
Walton (east Cobb)
Lassiter (east Cobb)
Pope (east Cobb)
North Cobb
Kell

These schools all have great AP programs and are fantastic public schools.

PM me if you have any more questions!

Carrie

ii live in Johns Creek. I love it. Schools are excellent but it is not an inexpensive area.

Also, way way way to far to commute to Kennesaw.

I recommend the areas listed above.

cvjw....thank you for the information. I had no idea it was that far. I went looking at houses in Marietta and some schools were rated very poorly. Such as East Cobb Middle School, Wheeler High School, and EastValley Elementary. Could you be more specific as to what area(s) are safest and with best schools and which ones just to stay away from. We'd also consider private school too. I would PM you but don't know how. Sorry about that.

The school zones listed by Carrie above are all good choices, and the homes are in safe areas. Just to give you some perspective, my office was 18 miles from my home in Johns Creek. On a good day, it took me 1 hour & 15 minutes each way. Friday afternoons or anytime there was more than 2 raindrops would be closer to 2 hours each way. Johns Creek to Kennesaw is 35 miles taking surface streets with a million traffic lights. If you take highways and the interstate, it's 40 miles and you drive on the top end of I285. I hope to never, ever drive on 285 in rush hour again. Only LA and a few other larger cities are worse. Try to live as close to his office as possible, otherwise you will never see him. Last time I checked, Kennesaw is very safe.

Cobb County is loosely divided into several areas: East Cobb, West Cobb, North Cobb (Kennesaw) and South Cobb.

East Cobb has the best schools, but is further away from Kennesaw. Walton High School is the best in East Cobb.

West Cobb is where I live (Marietta). My son goes to Harrison High, which is a great school. Kennesaw Mountain is also a good choice and is close to Kennesaw.

South Cobb is probably the least desirable area overall. There are some good schools, but some not so great schools. It is also the furtherest from Kennesaw.

If you live in East Cobb, West Cobb or North Cobb, you will have no need for private school. Cobb County has great public schools. Cobb County also operates several magnet schools which makes the choices even better.

Live as close to your husband's work as possible. Traffic here can be a bear - too many people and not enough roads for everyone!

If you tell me where the company is, I can suggest some areas :)

I live in West Cobb. We just moved here from the other side of town in January. My house actually backs up to the Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park. No one will ever be able to build behind us. We do not have children, but our schools are good. My husband has a travel job and works from home when he is in town. I unfortunately work in downtown Atlanta (from a commuting perspective).

I live in the Kennesaw Mountain High School district (posted above). We are really unincorporated with a Kennesaw address, but it is almost like we live in North Marietta.

Driving from here to Alpharetta to here to work would not be a good commute.

Kennesaw is very safe. Crime is part of the reason we moved here. There are both new construction and existing homes around.

When I looked at homes in East Cobb, some schools were rated very good in the 9's and 10's but then there were some (also in East Cobb) rated very poorly in the 4-6 range. We live in California and public schools out here are horrible. That is one reason we put our daughter into private school, but also because I felt she'd "slip thru" the cracks in public school and not have enough "attention" from the teacher. She really needs that. The company is located in Kennesaw. My husband has been there once before many years ago. He will be interviewing soon and while there plans to research schools (most importantly), neighborhoods, etc. Any information would be helpful to point him in a direction for he does not have many days in the area. Thanks!

Come on up to Acworth(next town north) and look. My son started at Allatoona the first year it opened as a sophomore and graduated in 2011. It is a very good school. Good sports programs and fine arts. My youngest son is now a sophomore there and is in Orchestra which he loves. They have a new principal there this year (old one retired) that I like a lot. Acworth has a lot of neat little shops downtown with all kinds of festivals throughout the year. Kind of reminds me of Mayberry. We have lived here almost 20 years. Where at in Kennesaw is your husband interviewing?
