I was hoping I could bend the ear of any Travel Counsellors here on the board about breaking into the industry. Is there anyone I could send a PM to with a couple of questions for advice? Thanks!!

not to become rich, but maybe stay at home mom?? Or even part-time job? I'm at crossroads in my life, where I will be off mat leave in Feb and am trying to figure out what to do.:sad1:

Well I am not a travel agent, which is why I started the post. But for those of you who are also thinking about it, have you looked into taking any courses in travel and tourism? You can do it at many colleges and many also have courses you can do online. I would really suggest it because there is so much to learn before you even start in an agency. City codes, fares, pricing, tour costs, accomodations, attractions, different types of transportation, and on and on. According to the teachers I have had, they said the best way to get into the industry is to volunteer somewhere since all the job postings I have encountered require some experience. My problem is I have had no luck in finding a place that is interested in a volunteer and I have been looking and following up for a couple of months now.
But if it's something you think you are going to love to do, then start looking into it and making some connections. Good luck to you all and I hope it works out for all of us :)

I just sent you a PM. :goodvibes

And, those above are right... If you want a high paying job, stay away from travel. :rotfl:
