O/T 1st night without a dummy give me strength

I remember trying to wean our girls off theirs - when they were about 2.

We left them out "for the birds" and said they needed them for their babies!!!!:rotfl: and in return they would be leaving a little gift. When they woke up the dummies were gone and they had a book which seemed to do the trick.

I must admit I wouldn't have been without dummies though when they were little - a real godsend to comfort them and help them sleep.

Bless her she did sleep through without it last night and I was so pleased. Then I took her to playschool she normally goes in holding her dummy even though she always gives it to them without it going into her mouth she went crazy because she didnt have it and seriously sobbed. When I collected her she was begging for it - feel like a complete cow now but still staying strong. Never realised how much reassurance the dummy offered her !!

Thats a shame, you may have to replace it with another token she is happy to give them, young children often want to take "tokens" with them to regular places they go or visit. My DD3 has to take an object to pre-school every time she goes:confused3

The friend I spoke about previously came to my house once for a playdate with her eldest who was 15months at the time and the two girls were tired and started falling out, my friends DD kept going to her change bag looking for her "yum-yum" as she called it - she was so miserable when she realised it wasn't there she screamed and cried for ages but my friend stayed strong (it is hard) and didn't give in......she said the same thing, it really did comfort her more than she knew.

My mum did the santa thing with me at Christmas he got my dummy and I got a special present for giving it up.

I'm glad that last night went well. I am sticking to the "only when you are sleeping" thing at the moment - just until we come back from Florida then they are out of here! I don't think it would be fair to take them off her when she will be in a strange environement and may find it hard to sleep anyway. :)

One thing that could be good is using teddy's as a comforter, my mum did with me and now she hates the fact im still hooked on them and have way to many. She told Jonathan I wasn't allowed to get more than one in Disney and he listened he was terrified of getting in her bad books. :lmao:

Its good she got through the night is there anything like a teddy or favourite toy or book she could take with her to give to them.

I hope it gets better for you soon.

DD (now 13) had a dummy til she was almost 4, DS was born when she was 3 and half so we delayed taking it off her til later. By then she kept it by her bed and only used it at night. She decided she wanted Thomas Tank Engine Big Loader so we left Tinkerbell a note asking to swap her dummy for it. She did ask for it a couple of times but accepted Tink had taken it.
DS (now 10) had his til he was 1, he had 3 great big fat dummys, one in each hand and one in his mouth, but he bit the end off all of them in the space of one week, and refused the nice neat new ones I had. And that was him off them!!

Its like anything with kids, you think each phase will never pass and before you know it it has. Blink of an eye.

Mine fell down the toilet and that was the end of that!!!

I remember looking down the toilet seeing it there and my mom saying 'well, im not getting another one'. I was probably about 3 or 4.

You have done well :)

Agree with others that a reward may be due for DD :thumbsup2
